Welcome to the PSP tutorials thread! Here are listed many excellent sites with tutorials on how to draw, color, and many other things with Paint Shop Pro. (Personally, I have PSP7, but I think any edition will work.)

I would like to keep this thread as neat and tidy as possible, so please try to refrain from making one-sentence posts or carrying on personal conversations if not neccessary. (Of course, sometimes this will happen, but I'd like to try and stay on topic so that the discussions stay organized. :) )

I am toying with the idea of adding up a companion guide to Xue's coloring tutorial (see below.) If you would like to see this happen, please PM me and let me know so that I can start working on it. This would simply be for me to follow along step-by-step with Xue's tutorial, posting my own progress and explaining anything if needed.

I also would like to make people aware that there are tons and tons of tutorials for Photoshop - by all means read them!!! Photoshop and PSP are so similar, and have a lot of the same features, that a PSP user can easily follow along with a Photoshop tutorial. All you need to do is be a bit creative when reading through a Photoshop tutorial - the names and icons are slightly different, but the idea is the same. So do not be afraid to read Photoshop tutorials simply because the only program you have is PSP!

Links to Tutorials:

One of my personal favorites, that demonstrates in 9 steps how to color a drawing: http://fanart.lionking.org/imgarchive/?FanArt/Xue_Falcon+hi+++
Just scroll down on this page and look at the coloring tutorial images Xue has.

Two really good tutorials are on this site: http://pendako.syste.ms/
Simply click on the "tutorials" button at the bottom of the page.

A good tutorial that covers "real-life" art techniques; the artist here uses a combination of background water color washes on Bristol board and coloring with colored pencils. Worth a look, especially if real media is your preference! Here's the link: http://www.kyoht.com/howto.html

A good anatomy anime tutorial can be found at:
http://www.polykarbon.com
This was recommended to me on another site I hope you find it useful!
Submited by Yayster, aproved by Ohtarien and added to the site links.

Some more good Tutorial site links to get your creative vibes going:
Links submitted by Taria and aproved by Ohtarien.

www.good-tutorials.com Tons of tutorials ranging from text effects to drawing to animation. Good resource, but you'll have to go through the lesser tutorials to find the gems. Browse and find your favorites!

http://www.imanimetions.net/ A site dedicated to wallpapers, there are lots of good tutorials for making shiny, pretty-looking things like angel wings, northern lights, and other special effects.

http://www.surreal-utopia.com/home.htm Another site that has lots of cool special effects tutorials.

http://pannsplace.50megs.com/opening.html Some neat tutorials on how to transform normal images into excellent backgrounds.

Unfortunately my current list of tutorials is rather short; a lot of other good tutorials have been taken down on sites, due to problems such as the site has expired, there was not enough space on the server, etc. I'll keep checking back on those sites and hopefully their excellent tutorials will be back for public viewing again!

If anyone has any tutorials that they'd like to add to the list, please PM me and I'll add it to the thread! Questions and comments are most welcome!

lol I've never ever read a PSP tutorial! Maybe i should :p. Ohtarien, maybe you should add instructions on your own techniques ;) I bet that would help.

Ohtarien, could you please check that first link of yours and see if the author has changed the content cuz I can't find the 9-step tutorial!

My pc crashed again and I haven't bothered reinstalling any of my stuff...after all its been formatted 3 times in the past 4 weeks and I somehow don't think the old hag can hold up much more. Hopefully get a new one someday soon. Until then I'm afraid I will be idle in this thread :(

Hi Cuiel! Yes, I've been super-busy lately and haven't had any time myself to do anything art-related, so while I still have high hopes for this tutorial thread and posting some of my own art these projects are on hold. How long I can't say, but I'm still interested in them, that's for sure! (There's just not enough spare time right now to do all the projects I'd like to. :p )

I checked the first link, and I can still find it - just scroll down and look for the thumbnail images of blue lion heads. They are actually four separate images - the bottom-most one is just the coloring steps, and the other three are the coloring steps plus written instructions. Tell me if you still can't find them, and I'll see what I can do for you. :)

My fault...I thought those were submitted art work and didn't look carefully enough! Will look over them and tell you what I think!

Have finally had time to look more thorroughly at those links, and they all look good! I installed my Paint Shop Pro again and seems like the pc is not reacting negative to it....doesn't seem like I'll get a new one so it'll have to do. I decided that if I want to learn this I can't let it stop me! So I'll have a go this afternoon. Cross fingers people. ;)

Hi Cuiel,

Sure, I'd be happy to try and help - not sure if it'll do much good, becuase I have PSP7, but if you PM me I can try it!

Well finally got some "alone-time" to try this out again! (All mums everywhere understand what I mean.) This stuff sure is time consuming but I've managed to go through the beginners tutorial at Pendako, and it took a while before my norwegian mind understood it...but then zing I got it and it's sooooo neat! Must add that I got myself a Wacom graphire tablet so makes it all much easier...I really admire those that get along without it!

Hey, that's great that you finally got to try a tutorial for PSP! Aren't tablets great? I haven't used mine at all in the last couple months (time/energy reasons) but I do love it for computer graphics work. And I just got a new computer this week, as my old one shut down whenever I tried to go on the internet.... Oh well, it was time to get rid of that old beater anyways.

I use PS-7 the most so all I have is loads of those type of tutorials, if you would like those I can post them up here for others to use unless PSP is the prefered art program, then I can weed threw my list and find just those type of tutorials for you to add. Let me know. =)

Hi Taria,

Sure, by all means post 'em up! I've been really neglecting all my art for the past couple months, so I haven't had much to do with the Art Forum. Feel free to add some PSP and PS tutorials, although please be a little selective: we want to find good-quality tutorials, not just basic, low-quality ones. But I think it'd be great to keep adding more good tutorials for this poor neglected thread. And like Cuiel said, she's ready for more, so bring 'em on! lol

Ohtarien

PS
When you post them, Nessa will probably be around to organize them to the top list, so don't worry about that.

I've given her a few of them already so when she get's them all looked threw I'm sure you both will pop them up for others to use, I still have more but making sure the sites aren't down is what I'm doing at the moment. Weeding threw the long expandaed list of tutorials I have. I've found a few that are no longer working and I don't want to add those. =) Unless you really want the 404 pages...lol

I'm still working with Paint Shop Pro 6. It suites my needs ok I guess. lol

I have a Paint Shop Pro 5, it was my first graphic gadget and came free with a mag. Works great tho...the main reason I continued with Photoshop instead was that I found a norwegian tutorial book and that really was a eyeopener for me! It's quite sensible to learn these things in english as most tutorials and other stuff on the net is in english...but also quite difficoult to read up on it with all the new terminology in a language second to your own!
