Ok, I have a question: what kind of sword would be good for a person around 107 pounds and close to five foot in height? (prolly an extremely small one or dagger, right?)

katana or a sabre, probably a katana since it is a shorter two handed weapon. Sabres can be lighter than traditional longswords. With the right training either would be lethal.
If you are serious, go to Sword Forum International at www.swordforum.com and ask. Those folks are serious swordsmen and makers, throw out that question and see what happens. Tell them what you want to do, if you prefer Eastern or Western styles, what kind of fighting style. If you are seeking info for a RPG character they will need this info too.
Be prepared to do more research because they will be pretty specific. My little knowledge is from books, those guys make and use swords
you might just ask for dimensions, Length and weight.
They have a great wealth of info

Here's a few reccomendations, Ashley

If you're interested in a fencing-type sword, then opt for a Rapier. They're as light in weight as they come.

Overall, a classical Rapier is 44 1/2" in length, with a blade of 36 1/2" long, 1/4" wide, 3/16" thick, and a weight of 2 lbs.

Celtic long and short swords are both good as well.

A typical Celtic long sword is roughly 34 1/2" long with a blade of 30", 1/2" wide, with a weight of 2 lbs.

Whereas the Celtic short sword is at least 24" long, with a blade of 18 1/2", 2" wide, and a weight of 1 lb., 8 oz.

I love collecting swords. It's sort of a hobby of mine.

If you have any other questions about a suitable sword, please feel free to ask.

Good advice Sindarin!

I'd thow in the small sword as well. Basically a very simple version of a rapier. Very simple guard and slightly shorter blade.

A gladius might be appropriate as well - short thrusing and slashing weapon.

It really depends mostly on what fighting style and sword types you prefer. Given the size of the person listed, you could weed out the most massive swords, but after that, just about anything is fair game

Thanks! All that info is most appreciated. (yes, one may guess I'm asking for a sword for myself! lol) I don't anything about styles of fighting, but I'll look for pics of those tpyes of swords you mentioned, Sindarin. I love swords. 'Twould be wonderful if I could pick up a real sword and learn to use it.

I only have a couple of replica swords at the moment, tho. Is there any place in here I can post pics of them so one of y'all could tell me about them?

Lady Ashley, you can email the pics to me (same routine as BTS forum) and I'll post 'em up for you.
And actually, since you're a mod, it means you're a staff member and hence, you can register for the WotR photo forums for free and post the pics there. ;)

And I'm moving this thread out of 'The Armoury' to 'The Smithy'.
