Am I the only one who has heard of this movie.. Ancanar?.. It has been in production for ages and they say it has recently been completed... its supposed to take place in the worlds of Tolkien?... maybe it was held back because of Lord of the rings?...
there is an official website.. I just cant remember the name of it but here is the "imdb" site...
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0315187/
What do you know of this movie?

The official site is www.ancanar.com
It is a story inspired by Tolkien's Middle Earth, but not an original Tolkien story...
What I understand is that it is an indipendant film, not made by one of the big studios...
It seems to be very nice....

It has been made, but it will come out this summer, as far as I know. It's in the post-production phase now.
Soon there'll be a completely redesigned official site too, which will be easier to navigate, and it will be more interactive than the old one. And it looks much better, IMO. (I'm involved in the testing of the new site... ;-) )

Cool! Sil!
I have really been waiting a long time for this movie... it was in pre-production for like 9 years or so..

Well, it was supposed to come out this summer (2004), and imdb.com still has the 5th May 2004 as a release date...
But now I have other news: on the new site, the filmmakers now announced that they have the opportunity to reshoot certain parts of the film with a larger budget, and to shoot some scenes they originally did not have the budget to shoot... It's an information that was held back even from us webtesters... So it seems there will be a delay again, but I think it could be worth the wait...

I'd just keep checking the site and maybe sign up for the mailing list too. Once the movie comes out it shouldn't be too hard to find lists of theaters and showtimes near you, though be warned that Ancanar probably won't have a very wide release, being a mostly independant feature.
But, if all else fails, I'm sure there will be a DVD release!

There was a discussion on this in the Ancanar message board. The Ancanar team will (hopefully) extend the release to over countries as well as the US. There's been a lot of hub bub around the world about Ancanar. ;)

Okay its a little old news but they released a teaser trailer for this movie..
The Movie actually looks really interesting but it is 100% low budget.. but a rumour says that they stopped shooting for half a year to get more money.. causing the delay, but now the rumour is that they have gotten the money and the movie is now after re-shoots in Post-production..
Here is a link to the teaser trailer for Ancanar: http://ancanar.com/trailer/

so this will probably be one of those movies in the indie film theatres?
why does it seem like only the best films are the hardest to get to? lol

I'm getting more interested in this project after seeing the new trailer.
When the old trailer came out I sort of grimaced and said at least they tried. I stil have problems with some stuff, watching the trailer feels like watching an RPG on film (not insulting RPGs though!) and the character's didn't seem to have well defined races or fit into their surroundings very well. I've come to enjoy the weaponry and armour of the film (though some of the helms look a bit SCAish to me still), which took a while for a 13-14th century arms&armour guy to do! ;)
I think the folks at the Lonely Mountain Forge really do some nice work though, and there's only a few people in the world who can equal or surpass them in dark ages (how I dislike that term!) styles of work. One of those guys is Patrick Bárta. But I really do like the longsword designs the LMF have done for the film, I wish the website had some more stats on the weapons, dimensions, weights etc... For a weaponry buff like me its that stuff that we really want to see. But the most amazing prop for the film? ;) Well I'd have to say Ancanar's maille. Its amazing, it just hangs perfectly on the body. That piece is a real work of art.
Despite my little criticisms above, I really do want to see this, and I'm sure I'll be buying the DVD. I have no problem (unlike, unfortunately, many die-hard tolkien fans) with grafting off Tolkien's work. This movie seems almost like a fanfic to me, that's fine, a good fanfic makes decent reading. Oddly enough the few times I've tried to get through the texts on the official website (books of Rammoth or whatever they're called) I'm reminded more of EarthSea then of Tolkien and Middle-earth. Either way this project has come a long way. I'm still eagerly waiting to find out when it'll be released and who's going to be carrying it.
