Actually, the FOTR soundtrack came out 2 1/2 to 3 months before the movie came out. We should be expecting it in september or early october

It's a common practice in Hollywood to release sountracks before the film comes out, actually.

And as much as I want to hear Howard Shore's music for the second installment, I don't want the soundtrack ruined! So I'll be buying it after the movie.

Princess Greenleaf
August 30th,2002, 01:49 PM
The soundtrack ROCKS! I bought it after the movie came out and it gave me shivers it was so good.

And not only that, it won an Academy Award and is on the top of the list of best soundtracks in the world.

I bought it before the movie, and I was trying to figure out what was going on by listening...:p :naughty:

Absolutely Fab!!!

The music was just flawless. (I love that word.)
It's probalbe the only CD that i have that i like every song on it.
"What are you talking about?"
Example: The only reason I got the Star Wars 2 music was because my eyes would water when I heard that flawless,(i said it again.) Love theme, it's haunting, and smooth, and so romantic. *Very deep sighs. Eye's water.*

As for me, I watched FotR weeks after it arrived... I thought it was going to be dumb and I didn't like the books (since then I have a new-found appreciation for them) so I got the soundtrack after the movie but I do love it.

Ooohhhhhh.......I dunno if I want to wait to buy the TT soundtrack until after I've seen it, I feel like it might spoil it somehow to listen to it beforehand.........how will I make up my mind! Lol

Tar-Ancalimë

I think I don't really want to. I expect it will be very good but I do think it would spoil the movie in a way.

I loved the soundtrack! I listen to it almost everyday! My fav song is #13 The Bridge of Kazadum! I get into the music alot! I also love to sing along witht the songs with words and stuff. Being a musican myself, the moment I heard the music on the movie I was like 'wow, this has got some really great music!' I am trying to get my band director to get some LoTR music for our band to play but he hasn't found any good arrangments at our level.

Cool, there is this one song that I love to sing. It was a song on a LOTR screensaver called Full of Grace. It's not on the CD or anything but the word go along great with the screensaver! It makes me wanna cry everytime!

Arwen Undomiel
January 17th,2003, 04:09 AM
was it a female singing it? quite slow and beautiful with the lyrics going something along the lines of:

#if all of the strength and all of the courage,
#come and lift me from this place
#i know i can love you much better than this
#full of grace, full or grace

;)

Beleglotiel
January 18th,2003, 12:17 AM
Yeah! But there is more to it than that............

Winter is come.....
And bitter.......
It's chill last to the bone.......
Haven't seen the sun for weeks......
To long to far from home.......
I feel just like I'm sinking.......
And I claw for solid ground.......
Pulled down by the undertow.......
Never thought I could feel so lonely.......
In all of the darkness I feel like letting go........
If all of the strength and all of the courage........
Come and lift me from this place........
I know i could love you much better than this..........
Full of grace, full or grace...........
My love.......(not to sure about this last line tho)

mecry It's so beautiful!!!!

Arwen Undomiel
January 18th,2003, 02:26 PM
I HAVE THAT SONG!!!!!!!!!!!! and the album that it's on. i first heard it on an episode of buffy the vampire slayer. it's called 'full of grace' by sarah mclachlan and it's available on her album, 'surfacing'. i love her music and have got a couple of her albums.

oooh how did you come across this screensaver? what kinda images were there? was the whole song playing or just a bit of it? it's a gorgeous song isn't it!

Bonos-Girl
January 18th,2003, 06:26 PM
i haven't heard the song but weirdly i know that there is a song called angel on the same album...don't ask me how i know that cos i don't have a clue!!

Beleglotiel
January 18th,2003, 09:32 PM
Well...........Arwen Undomiel
I got the screensaver at www.theorlandobloomfiles.com but infortunately it says..................

"Screen Savers for PCs
This page will be offline for a few days while I upload all the files to the new server."

so you'll have to wait a while before you can download it..........:(

Arwen Undomiel

I like Gollum's Song!

Arwen Undomiel
January 20th,2003, 01:12 AM
i always thought emilia whatsit sounded just like bjork, and then i read an article which contained some quotes from bjork saying she'd been asked to sing 'gollum's song', but turned it down due to her pregnancy. she later found out that howard shore had opted to searc for some bjork sound-alike singers and found emilia whatsit! i knew it was too much of a coincidence for her to sound llike her the former!

Bonos-Girl
January 20th,2003, 08:03 AM
when my dad heard it he remarked how much it sounded like bjork! lol

Arwen Undomiel

Beleglotiel
January 20th,2003, 04:46 PM
Okay, who is bjork?

I've heard that name before, but only because they were making fun of her on Saturday Night Live! lol

Arwen Undomiel
January 20th,2003, 05:44 PM
she's an icelandic singer who sings rather bizarre and often cool songs. she's got a distinctive voice and sounds like emilia whatsit who sings 'gollum's song'.

Bonos-Girl
January 20th,2003, 07:22 PM
she sings some really cool songs..the only thing i'm not too sure about is her dress sense!! lol

Beleglotiel
January 20th,2003, 08:55 PM

I've now decided that I like the TTT soundtrack better than FOTR  It just has so many great themes and battle tracks

Arwen Undomiel
February 9th,2003, 12:47 AM
i've been thinking that too lately; there are more powerful themes on the ttt soundtrack and with the addtional familiar sounds of some of the fotr score on there too, it's even better!!!

I have never heard a more perfect soundtrack. The best way I know how to describe it is by saying what Elijah Wood said about it during the cast commentary on the extended edition of FOTR (if you haven't watched it, shame on you!) he says, "It's so perfect it's like it's not even there." It's like you hear the Fellowship theme and you think "This IS the fellowship!" Does any of what I just said make any sense? In other words, the music perfeclty matches what you see on screen.

Arwen Undomiel
February 25th,2003, 03:33 AM
yeh, i know what you mean; it's like whenever i hear the music, i can picture what's happening and the emotions of the characters... both the fotr and ttt soundtracks are just so beautiful.

I haven't got the TTT soundtrack, would you recommend it? The thing is, I'm not sure, because the Fellowship Theme is my favourite theme from FoTR and that doesn't feature largely in TTT. mecry
When I listen to my FoTR soundtrack, I listen to songs 16-18 first, then start from track 11 all the way to the end of the CD. I don't really listen to tracks 1-10 at all! They are quite quiet and I prefer the louder, more dramatic tracks.

Question: are there any hints of the Fellowship theme in the TTT soundtrack? And are there any more relaxing songs, for example like tracks 17 and 18 on FoTR? Those are my favourites...although track 16, The Breaking of the Fellowship, almost makes me cry... (yes, sad, isn't it)... probably because it has Boromir's death music in it mecry mecry mecry

Celebrían
March 20th,2003, 08:41 PM
Yes, there are hints of "fellowship music" in TT. I would say that the mix between exciting and more soothing music is pretty even. There is a hint of the fellowship theme in track 5 (which is one of my favorites), but as far as the exact same stuff, well, I wouldn't say it is the SAME, but there are definately cool variations. But, yes, get it for sure. Listening to it makes me visualize everything. It's like re-living the movie all over again!

And you're right, "Breaking of the Fellowship" is VERY sad. The music at this point is sooooo moving!

YayBoromir!
March 20th,2003, 08:48 PM

you won't be disappointed, yayboromir - i can guarantee it. there ARE traces of 'the fellowship theme' on the ttt soundtrack, but considering the film is no longer focusing solely on the fellowship, it inevitably features new themes and melodies, which are more significant. for me, standout tracks include 'evenstar', 'breath of life', 'forth eorlingas', and' 'samwise the brave'.

I'm glad you like it! I must admit that it DID take a little longer for me to like the TT soundrack like I do FOTR, but I like now a lot more than I did. I think part of the reason for that is that it "skips around" so much (it's not in chronological order). The FOTR soundtrack is in order (and therefore it is easier to picture what is happening), but TT is not. I still love it, though, it's just a little bit harder to follow

I'm not too fond of the Lothlorien theme, or the Gondor theme, but who knows, maybe the Gondor one will grow on me once I hear it more in ROTK...:)

I like to listen to it at night. It just seems more mysterious and dreamilke when it is dark out. I hope you know what I mean...I am finding myself unable to get my point across..... :(

The othernight I was listening to the part off track 16 on the TT soundtrack when the Riders of Rohan charge down the hill, and I mean, it gives me chills everytime! I love that part!

What I do is I plug it into the mains and listen to it in the pitch black at about 11:30-12 at night, it is so much more incredible when you aren't concentrating on anything else... I've only done that with FoTR though, and it amplifies the sadness of the death music mecry I'll have to try it with TTT soundtrack! I haven't really had a chance to listen to that much.

That's sort of what I mant by listening to it at night, YB. It's easier to concentrate on the music and be transported by it when the sun has gone down....and let me tell you that the TT soundtrack gets better and better every time I listen to it! I listened to it last night when I was having trouble going to sleep. It gave me chill bumps!

omg..."Forth Eorlinagas"...i have overplayed over 130 times! hehe  :stomper:
there's a counter of how many times you've played something on itunes on the iBook, and that one i definitely overplayed as well as many others, like "Requiem for a Dream", "Riders of Rohan", "Samwise the Brave", "Isengard Unleashed" and ones from FOTR like "Bridge of Khazad-dum", "Concerning Hobbits", "The Black Rider, "Breaking of the Fellowship", "Ring goes South"....

ok i can go on and on... but overplaying is the best

He is in the extended TTT DVD, Evenstar, in flashback scenes with Faramir. It's gonna be great! (she says!)

August 13th,2003, 03:10 AM
Really, YB? That would be very nice! :)
I just recently got the TTT soundtrack, and I love it! One of the reasons for getting it is because I LOVE that instrument they used on the Rohan theme. It gives me goosebumps! Gollum's Song is a bit creepy, I admit. I usually don't listen to that one.

YayBoromir!
August 15th,2003, 12:19 AM
Gollum's Song has very poignant lyrics, but the way it is sung is a bit croaky and doesn't appeal to me that much. It has a cool Rohan theme bit at the end though which I like to listen to. The Rohan theme is awesome  but not as good as the Fellowship theme IMO ;)

I love the whole soundtrack.. both Fotr and TTT.... i mean the movies are fantastic amazing, brilliant and so on... but imagine the movie with some low class B music... The Moria sequence without the native's singing in the background.. it just would not have been the same... the music speeks for it self...

Thanks PA!!

I've been listening to the soundtracks lately – and not to take anything away from the work anyone else has done in such an epic project – the music is so powerful, so incredible, the movies would be not half of what they are without it.

I bought the Two Towers soundtack in advance of seeing the movie and on its own, it really transports you. The keen of Eowyn when Aragorn doesn't show up at Helm's Deep, the chorus as Gandalf and the Balrog drop into the pool in the depths of Moria, the Celtic-like passages that signify Rohan, the percussion and horns of Barad-dur, Orcs, Saruman. It's amazing.

I didn't know that there WAS a TTT soundtrack!:boohoo: Is there a store where I can buy it? (In Ohio) like Walmart, or Target, or somewhere????
I love listening to the FotR soundtrack....I've memorized the whole thing! it's so calming and beautiful.:snooze:
Also, does anyone know of a good place to find LotR posters? I've looked at the mall, and every store I can think of! if no one has suggestions, then I'll buy one on the 'net.
thanx for any info...

Just a simple question: which track in the ROTK soundtrack contains the music when the Rohirrim charge the Orc army on the fields. It sounds like a combination of the Rohan ("The King of the Golden Hall") and Hope ("Last March of the Ents") themes. Thanks in advance.

I thought the soundtrack was FABULOUS!!! I was a late convert to it (bought FotR a few months after the movie came out, thinking it would be just another normal soundtrack)... but for the second and third movies, I bought the soundtrack before the movies came out.

My favorite tracks:
The Bridge of Khazad-Dum (I'm a sucker for weird harmonies)
The King of the Golden Hall (the Rohan theme)
Minas Tirith (the end of the track is heavenly...)

Yeah I skip it all the time... I skip quite a few of the tracks in fact. The one I have never really listened all the way through is "Treebeard". That one is too dull for me. :)

Hmm.... Well, here's a quickie, it's a quote from a livejournal:

00:00 - 00:02 sound *just* like another of my favorite scores; guess the quote and get the music geek crown. 00:54 brings back the idea of the NAZGUL for a short time, and it pops back for a second at 02:20, and then at 02:36. SWEEPING DRAMATIC BIT at 02:58; I'm almost entirely sure it's the same one from TTT although it's 3 am and I might just be hearing things.

I think it's actually when Denethor kills himself. I'm not sure. Oh well, yet another reason to watch it again!!

I love the soundtracks! I love how scenes from the movie pop up at different times while you listen to it. It's also really soothing to listen to while studying, and I don't get as frustrated. I can't decide which one I like more.

i have a question regarding how they arranged the order of the RotK Soundtrack...
It didn't seem that they went by the movie in terms of arranging the songs... for example, Minas Morgul happened before Steward of Gondor. The same could be said of "Twilight and Shadow"... it seems that both TTT and RotK soundtrack orders are different from how they actually play out in the movies... why is this?

Ok, I don't know the names of most of the tracks, but I know the numbers. I own all three soundtracks, and they get me through my tough times, without a doubt!!!

In TTT, I like track 8 the best, but I also really like track 5 (I think that one's the Uruk-Hai), and anything dealing with Helm's Deep (I think tracks 16 and 17?)

I listen to the RotK soundtrack at least once a day, and always when I'm reading. It's the best soundtrack I've ever heard!!!

In RotK, my favorite track is 17, but I also really like (I think) 15, when Frodo and Sam are climbing up Mount Doom, track 8, and track 19.

I REALLY like a part in track 2 (Hope and Memory), but I have a gripe about the movie here. I bought the soundtrack a full two months before I saw the movie, and when I heard track 2, I always imagined something having to do with Aragorn and Arwen, maybe a horse or running, maybe in a flashback. All that happens during this piece of music in the movie was Gandalf and Pippin riding out of the stable, so I was VERY disappointed here!!! I know this isn't a movie thread, so I'll be quiet now.....Just wanted to throw in my two cents.....

I just bought all three for my birhday, but it is hard to get through them without getting all emotional.

I don't know about the order of the songs, I would think that it has to do with variety.

ooh goodness, I'm so obsessed over all the soundtracks! I even find it hard to part with them if a friend wants to borrow it!
From the FOTR soundtrack, I absolutely loved Concerning Hobbits, The Ring goes South, The Council of Elrond, A journey in the Dark and The Breaking of the Fellowship! From TTT, I loved any of the Rohirrim songs! And Lastly, from ROTK...goodness, if I had to pick my favourite song, I'd be listing the whole entire soundtrack! I guess i Like the last CD a bit better than the first two might be because I'm emotionally attached to it!

I just placed an order on Amazon to get a special edition set with the three movie soundtracks. Apparently it comes with 18 cards of scenes from the movies. I cannot wait for it to arrive.

Got them and I absolutely love FOTR soundtrack. Every last song is brilliant. The music is so soothing. I always was drawn to the music that plays when Saruman is breeding the orcs and it is great music. I especially love the part where the music for the breeding of the orcs plays then it switches to Gandalf sitting on Orthanc and the serene singing of cuts in for the eagles as he whispers to the flying insect to summon the eagles. I also always loved the music that plays when the Nazgul is on the screen. FOTR ROCKS.

TTT I love too although the music is not as soothing. A few of the songs are soothing but most are battle songs I assume. Breath of Life, Evenstar, Leave Taking, Forth Eorlingas, Isengard Unleashed, Hornburg, and Gollum's song are my favs.

ROTK is splendid too. I love Into the West, Twilight & Shadow, ROTK, Grey Havens, White Tree, Minas Tirith, The Steward of Gondor, End of All things and The Black Gate Opens. The Black Gate Opens has that lovely flute music that plays when Sam is holding Frodo on the side of Mount Doom. These soundtracks are so wonderful.

::listening to May it Be:: and utterly chilled by her voice.. i'm liking this song more and more lol

For me, i don't know why.. but Two Towers is my favorite followed closely by RotK and FotR... the TTT soundtrack has such wonderful tracks as Forth Eorlingas, The Hornburg, Riders of Rohan, King of the Golden Hall, Evenstar, "Isengard Unleashed!" that are just so wonderful... All tracks seem to be unique and every track is so catchy. =)
i thought that RotK had a lot of blend from the previous soundtracks... for example "Return of the King" has In Dreams and Concerning Hobbits within it too... And in the beginning of "The Fields of Pelennor" you can hear a drawn out version of "Isengard Unleashed" i think =)
I love the RotK soundtrack a lot though and it's growing on me day by day...
all the soundtracks really rock

Yay for Howard Shore!!!!! entdraught :hooray:

Goodness Periantari Andruil, I am trying to decide bwt ROTK and TTT which I prefer. Hell, they are both great. That violin music in the Evenstar song ROCKS. I listen to it over and over and I am beginning to wish that I could play the violin. :)

I think I have to agree with the listeners to Classic FM in the UK. They voted it the best film music EVER.
I would add to that and say that it is probably my all time favourite classical music.

I think all three soundtracks are wonderful. I believe FOTR soundtrack and theme is closest to my heart because the story began with the Fellowship members and follows their stories. But they are all great soundtracks.
