Has anyone listened to the BBC Radio Production of LOTR? It is a MUST have for the completely obsessed fan. This production is so superbly done from it's adaptation and of course the, the performances of the actors. I'd love to hear your opinions about the production. Here's mine:

The adaptation is very close to the book. It does lack the encoutner in the Barrows and you won't hear from Tom either but other than that, it is very faithful to the story. Even when there are parts with no dialogue, the listener can easily picture what is going on.

There are many fine performances of note, particulary Gollum and Gandalf, but it is Ian Holmes who turns in a completely captivating performance as Frodo Baggins hands down. Mr. Holmes is so honest as an actor. He doesn't hold back one bit from portraying all facets of Frodo. When Frodo is in mental or physical pain, you as the listner truly believe he is because of Mr. Holmes' skillful performance. If the Grey Havens Cd doesn't make you cry, then nothing will. What do you think?

Yes I love it Dernhelm. Particulary the laugh Galadriel has. A great set of tpaes/cd's. I played them to the wife, just before going to sleep as she refused to read the book. Though hardly a romantic evening...:-)

Ohhh Fatty....you Lothario you  :flamer: ;) lol
ive never actually heard the whole thing....tho i want to...but its a little too expensive for this kitty...i have heard parts of it tho, mostly with Ian Holm, and i agree Dernhelm, hes an amazing actor...ive always loved radio plays, for the simple reason that you can use your own imagination to flesh out the story...

I agree catz....not something my bank account will allow for i'm afraid....but what i've heard of it has been commendable....and has been listened to by those who i couldn't convince to read the books (they are NOW reading the books after listening to the story...GO RADIO! )

It is a bit of an investment IF you buy a brand new set. However the truly obsessed fan does not let price deter him/her from the object of desire! : ) That is my round about way of saying that I have seen many gently used copies offered up by others over the internet for bargain basement prices.
