Browsing through the forums, I've seen a few conversations started in other languages, but then stopped because they were going off-track and nobody could understand them or whatever... I know there is the Spanish table in the prancing pony, but I think it would be better if there was a forum specifically for non-English conversations... 'Course, you'd need moderators for each language... I don't know. Is that a bad idea? Do you want to keep this an English-only site?

.. that if you start a forum for non-english lannguages, you are already making distinctions between members and making places where some can/will go, and others not. We have a seperate Langauge board for Elvish, as that is Tolkien related and mostly it is a help area.
The Spanish thread was in response to a request from a member, but if this becomes a major issue, with lots of other language threads appearing, we may have to re-think our position on the whole concept entirely.. ie back to 100% english.
The conversations started in other languages have usually been stopped by a moderator, as it is impolite to converse in forums where not all others can understand. Anyway the forums are not supposed to be for conversations, but discussion. Conversations can be carried out on AIM or PM.
At this time, we have no plans for the site to be anything other than almost exclusively an English site.

Would be very easy to break the forum rules in such a forum...to me seems like a bad idea, even tho I certainly understand that some would appreciate having such forums. Nowadays it seems to be enough commotion around with people breaking rules as it is...but thats only my two cents!:)

Ok, no problem. I will keep French conversations bi-lingual, then.

This has nothing really to do with this thread, but I was just really curious, and couldn't figure out where else to post it: I know there are A LOT of people in this forum who are from other countries. Merely out of curiousity and interest: Do you guys also speak English or do you use the translating things on the internet?

What translating thing? There's a translating thing? lol I never knew! In Norway english is introduced from 1st grade and taught from 3rd grade...I'm almost sure it's the same in at least Sweden and Denmark...perhaps the other scandinavian countries as well. So yes...this is me speaking! :)

lol I'm not sure, that's just what I heard, since in Spanish 2 at our school when they have to write essays in Spanish, a lot of kids just have it translated online and cheat that way. So yeah. lol And I forgot that English is taught in a lot of schools. *hits head* Sorry, that was kind of a really weird question, I just was curious. lol

Ahhh I see! lol Imagine me wanting to post in "Say WHAT?!!" and being passed by several images while waiting for the translation...I would go bananas! lol

And the translation is usually pretty wrong, with many mistakes that are funny! I sometimes like to use the English-Japanese translator when I feel that I need to laugh and be entertained. roflmao

So I guess that most (or all?) of us don't use those translators. ;)

At my time we started the first foreign lang (usually eng but not ALWAYS) at 5th class and then at 9th one more... thats far from enough if you ask me, they spoke about changing that, Im not sure how changed it is tho (just for info, Im not ancient, finished HS '03)

And you cant do only with automatical translation, the comps cant do it proper - and if you pass with a comp translation your teacher must be just as competent in the language as you. (the word choice goes beyond the automatic translation, you try translating a text just taking the first meaning of a word out of a dictionary, the result wouldnt even be sensible in 9 of 10 cases)

Podľa mňa je to super nápad. Konečne si niekto uvedomil, že angličtina nie je jediný jazyk na svete.

I said
I think it's a great idea. At last someone relized that Englidh isn't the only language in the world.
