Which do you think was the coolest commandor of all? Which was the coolest commandor of their race? And how correctly did he command his men?
I think it was that Red or Purple, Orc at all.
He was a pretty nasty looking but was almost the best of all.
From Elves Elrond it is, from Men it is Faramir and uruks Lurtz.

Faramir! He's so willing to help his men (and the horses) out. He can command both man and beast. That's a great commander.

I chose Theoden. After a long hard battle at Helms deep King Theoden rallies his men and rides many miles to face an impossible battle. For a King/leader to inspire his mean to go into battle against those great odds in a land that is not their own he would have had to be a great commander and warrior.

I chose Faramir...you really get the sense that his men loved him and with that kind of loyalty and respect behind him his army would have been very strong indeed.

I chose King Theoden.... After he recovered from the "Wormtongue-illness", he did a very good job in Helm's Deep, and in helping Gondor....

Your choose is good, Theoden is one of the greates chieftains of men in WotR; first is faramir then theoden.

Well, for me, first is Boromir, then Theoden, then Faramir....

Yes, Boromir was a wonderful leader. He loved his people so much and cared about them and knew how to lead them and gain their trust. But after him, I think I would say Theoden.

Theoden- a perfect commandor but i think that he was skilled with only horsemen...

I think Lurtz was the best leader not because of any tactics he used but because his gorrilla like strength and fighting technics plus he can feel no pain and is semi immortal except when you chop his head off. And I thought it was awsome when he pulled the Knife that Celeborn gave Aragorn out of his leg and licked the blood off it in the extended edition. (it was awsome!)

yes, for when i think objectivly, then it seems that noone is the best, all command their units, what if you had given Aragon 100 Dwarven fools, would he been as successfull as with 100 Noldors...
Lurtz may counter all for his strenght

Lurtz! Brutal tactics all the way for me!
Ah....maybe Elrond is a good commander too. Placing archers to fire at the enemy before the infantry moves forward is a good idea!

but i think Gondor or Elves should have made some guns and gunpowder and scared the **** out of those orcs...

Dogface is cool! (aka Lurtz, my family calls him Dogface)
He has the most awesome makeup and is an awesome creature. I don't think he is a good commander though, all he said was "find the halflings!" and the two Uruks that saw Merry and Pippin were going to kill them. Dogface didn't give good orders specifying to keep them alive. He can't control his troops.
Theoden is an incredibly good commander, he brings up all who can fight to fight and gets the job done.

A nice point of view Kiriki, but still, Theoden was awesome in the charge...

I picked Theoden becouse I think he made a good commander and his speach before the Rohirram's charge was awesome. But if I could have I would have gone with Borimer.

I believe Theoden was the coolest commander because he really stepped up to the plate before Helm's Deep. He was concerned for his men. "What would you have me do? My men's courage hangs by a thead!" I loved his speech before the charge onto Pellenor Fields. Faramir is my 2nd favorite.

I am gonna say Elrond, he was an amazing commander! But you should have included Gandalf for men! He was the best in ROTK! lol He led that army amazingly!

I still really would prefer Gandalf because of the way he led the army of Minas Tirith, and basically the way he led every other person from the movies. He was the biggest cammander there, he was wise and strong and extremely intelligent. Gandalf was the best commander.

I picked Farimir. I liked him a lot.
I would have picked Lurtz but you saw him for a total of what? 5 minutes and I know this isn't about what you see but I really didn't see any strategic planning from him, just run and kill. And plus he didn't live that long when the battle came. If he had gone through the war and died at the end or something then I would have considered him.

I wouldn't choose Faramir at all. He wasn't a good commander. He led his men into Osgiliath and hardly done anything at all to actually show he even was a captain. And let us not forget him leading his army back into the overrun Osgiliath for the second time. Sure, Denethor instructed him to do so, but why endanger the lives of the many men who had children and families by following the whim of a madman? He done so, despite Gandalf's words strongly suggesting he don't go. He got all of his men killed in doing so. Very foolish.

I would have to say Faramir, his attempt to defend Osgiliath was incredible, he also had the smarts to pull his men back.

I think... the best commander is Faramir, he use tactics very effectives...
But Theoden is a great commander too...

I've always thought that Faramir was a good commander. He was respected by his men, he was a decent leader, and he is fair in judgement though he does have flaws.
I also think Gandalf was an excellent leader as well.

I would have to say Faramir, his attempt to defend Osgiliath was incredible, he also had the smarts to pull his men back.
And then he had the 'smarts' to lead them all straight back in. :hmppf:

Okay, I have heard a lot about Faramir, Theodin, Gandalf, but in all actuallity the leader that I would choose above all others would be Elrond. He and Gandalf were around the longest and have been through most of the battles of middle earth, but even Gandalf went to Elrond for counseling. It would definately have to be Elrond.
Gollum the Great

well for the Hobbits...yeah come one they fought...remember the Scouring of the Shire? Yeah! I would have to say both Merry and Pippin showed their stuff...getting the Hobbits all ready to battle in the much needed time to put away the cakes and ale and pick up a bow or a garden hoe (what ever can give a good beatin really...even an umbrella as in use lol) but of the two...Merry... I mean come on ... he took on the Witch King!!! Go Merry with your feet so hairy!! lol and Pippin...took that troll at the black gate...that took guts (and other things but this is going to be a clean post ;))
For Dwarves....I would have to say Dain (the 2nd) Ironfoot...cusin to Thorin Oakenshield...when the Battle of 5 armies occured Dain and his troops came right away to aid Thorin and was considered the mightiest and wisest leader of the kings of Durin's Folk
Wizzard...come on! Need anyone really have to say? out of 5 which on kicked anus?! GANDALF!!
Elves.....the one...the only Glorfindel!!! Elrond's Cheif Counsellor!! GREAT leader and even was the foreteller of the fall of the Witch King not be "by the hand of man"...
Man....toughy....Faramir was a good leader....but not the best in my oppion...Im going to go for someone no one on here may know... Elfhelm...a Marshal of Rohan who fought in (AND survived) the Battle of the Pelennor Fields....he lead histroops to northern part of the unguarded wall of Pelennor and chareged across the fields with a great destruction of Orcs.
ok im getting tired lol

Still... and let's face it... If were talking lord of the rings, Elrond would have to be the best "Commander". He was the one that brought everyone together for the council, He's the one that led the last alliance with Elendil (spelling? Don't have my books handy... ) He is also the one that led Isildor into the fires of mount doom to destroy the ring. By all rights he would have to be the "Commander in Chief" of LOTR.... But all of the charachters that all of you have listed definately have leadership qualities and are very valiant but if were talking Commanders no one can hold a candle to Elrond.... Not that I'm being a little biased because of my race or of being of the first born but lets face the facts.... HAHAHAHA :lmao:

Faramir. I believe that because of the loyalty his men had to him, he was the best commander. And I also think that his defense in Ithilien was so crucial in the War of the Ring (in my opinion) that it places him in my mind as the best commander.
