New interviews are saying that it will a long wait for the Hobbit... more than just a few years.. closer to 3-5 years will it take according to many..

I dont know if it is silly but.
I am concerned about for example Ian Holm is at the moment 73-74... if the movie starts in 2007 he will be 78 and probably not "fit" to shoot The Hobbit... and if he is How would they do the age thing?

The same actually goes for Ian Mckellen.. who is a little yonger though..

This is of course only if they are gonna play Bilbo and Gandalf... but lets face it... there is no other Bilbo than Ian Holm.. and no other Gandalf than Ian Mckellen..

Bilbo starts his adventures the same age as Frodo. Holm cannot play the young hobbit with all the make-up in the world. It just cannot be made believable. Holm is old. Nothing wrong with that, but it's like Brosnan - I absolutely love the guy's 007, but unfortunately it's time to retire

Maybe you have a point for Mckellen tho...

I think that's a very real concern, they may have to pull there fingers out if they do indeed want holm and McKellan. But as you say who cud take there places? they've defined the roles and indeed the standard! :)

Well, Ian M. is about 10 years younger than Ian H. I think it would be more important for Ian M. to play Gandalf than it is for Ian H. to play Bilbo. Plus Gandalf the Wizard would be played by an old man anyway. I think they could find someone good enough to play Bilbo, maybe even a better person for the role of Bilbo in "The Hobbit" than Ian would be.

Yeah, but its still indeed hard to replace Bilbo himself... Ian Holm lol

My worries for Sir Ian M. is will he be in good psysical shape to do the perhaps exhausting shoots?...

Oh it would be great if Ian Holm could play Bilbo in The Hobbit... And he probably will... at the very beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring when Galadriel narrarates "... It was picked up by the most unlikely creature imaginable...", we see a glimpse from Bilbo's adventures in The Hobbit... and it's Ian Holm... but yeah, if they wait too long... then it will be a very old Ian Holm.... we wouldn't want him climbing the Misty Mountains with a cane, and we definitely wouldn't want his teeth to fall out while talking to Smaug,.

You know what would be neat? If they could get Elijah Wood to play a young Bilbo... to show the relation and connection between the two and their lives...

And Ian Mckellen HAS to play Gandalf... I mean... he's Gandalf!!!!

Ian Holm is to old to play Bilbo if they are going to make *The Hobbit* as a movie..Ian Meckellen maight work, but i doubt that they are going to make the movie..Something i think is horrible, consider that they schould have made the The Hobbit before The Lord Of The Rings.

speculating is a really big thing round here huh? :p hehe anyhoo jackson has said the movie will be started in a couple years time, Ian Mckellen will be used as PJ said, yet Ian Holm was not mentioned so that must be an unsure thing.

but i get the feel when PJ talks about it that if he cant get the same actors he will not make it...but who knows, too early to say.

Yes I know this, but that is again not my concern, my concern is that Ian Holm will be to old.. simply.

Peter Jackson said that he wants to get as many of the Cast back together.. to make The Hobbit.

Ian Holm may not even be in the books, from what i have heard from credible sources...

...look at all the press releases, not once is Ian holm mentioned for a possible return. and i cant find any upcoming movies his in...maybe his taken his own proverbial ship to retirement ;)

Ian Holmes will be too old and I also think that Elijah would be too young...what will they do? Well, I guess they could make Elijah look older w/makeup...it's easier to do that than to make someone look younger than they really are.
I think they can keep McKellan as Gandalf...I mean wizards don't really age, right? So would he really have looked that much younger in the hobbit?

I don't think Elijah Wood would be a good choice for Bilbo. I mean, he and Ian H. don't even look anything alike! I would love it if Ian H. could still play Bilbo by the time they actually make the film, but if he is too old by then (which I'm sure he will be) then I would rather they get someone else who looks a lot like Ian H. did in the FotR prologue.

You know what? When I first read The Hobbit, waaaay back in January 2002 (how time flies!), I had only seen the commercials for FOTR but I 'saw' Elijah as Bilbo. I think he would be a good choice, even if he doesn't look like Ian H. I think Ian M. could do it! He seems to be pretty tough for an older guy, but then, 5 years is a long time.

Ian Holm is going to be in "The Aviator" which opens this Dec. with Leo DiCaprio.
But I think he may be too old to do a younger Bilbo, and he has had some health problems that might slow him down. They should pick some unknown actor who looks like a young Ian Holm. It will be fun to see who plays all the dwarves. The actors will be the correct relative size to each other, so they won't have to do much scale doubling.

well the thing is the way bilbo looked in the beggining of fellowship when it shows him find the ring i think they could do with several acters out there...i mean the make up crew they used were amazing so i have no doubt whoever they choose for the cast it will be exactly who PJ wants (and his quite picky lol).

Ian Mckellen i have no doubt will be playing gandalf, i mean his currently in australia doing stage theatre in sydney...that is alot more harder than on a movie set where re-takes can be made, and stunt doubles used.

his looks dont matter a fig.........his acting is what will convince you that whoever they pick IS bilbo...........and if it does that, then great, the trick is finding someone who can do that
