I have the Soundtrack for FOTR (In fact i'm listening to it right now:grin: ) and I noticed that the CD didn't include some of the music that was in the movie. For instance: the adorable tune that the hobbits were dancing to at Bilbo's birthday party, and a few other sniches of music that I remeber hearing that last time I saw that film. But I'm so absorbed in the film that I don't sit there just listing to the music trying to identify the tunes and compare them to the CD. Did any of you notice that, or was it just me? But I'm SURE that that cute song the Hobbits were dancing to wasn't in the CD.

You're absolutely right, Arwen, that music wasn't included in the FOTR soundtrack.

I too noticed that discrepancy as well.

I rather enjoy listening to those fanciful Hobbit tunes in the movie, and wished they were on the CD.

I doubt it... :( Another place that didn't get it's music put up is the bit when gimli runs into balin's tomb and gandalf shouts 'Gimli!' I noticed that one...

The song that's playing when Gandalf is sending a message to the big eagle (Haven't read the book, so I don't know the name  ) isn't on it, is it? I don't really remember hearing it on there. It probably is, I'm just too stupid to know ;)

Yes Tinwe, although you are NOT stupid, it IS on the soundtrack.... Track 7, "A Knife In The Dark", 2:15, and a bit at 3:15

I'm a huge fan of soundtracks, and sadly, it's often the case that some music is not included in the CD.

It says in the preview of the extended DVD that Howard Shore will write 30 min. of extra music for it! I hope it will be somewhere separate on one of the discs!!!

There WAS some gorgeous music not included. There is an amazing elvish theme that sometimes comes through, but is not on the CD. Extended DVD hopes.........

I agree the music really adds to the atmosphere in the film but I hope its on a separate disc so that I can listen to it over and over!

I noticed some other parts:
The whole party scene. Down to the last SECOND!
There was more music in the fight with the cave troll, at the part when Aragorn saved Frodo and was hit unconscious across the room.

they should've had gandalf singing that old song that he sings...the road goes ever on and on.....you know...just before he meets frodo at the beginning..

Does anyone else miss the rest of the music when the fellowship exit's Moria? On the soundtrack, it cuts of right before Aragorn says "Legolas, get them up." I thought the second part of that song was the most toughing, too...

BTW, I doubt they'll release the trailer music since it was liscenced from other sources...

Well, as was mentioned before there's just not enough room on the disk. Let's say there's 2.5 hours of music in the movie - and I think that's pretty conservative. A CD holds 74 minutes of music, or 1 hour 15 minutes. So it would take at least a double disk set to hold all the music, and I guess New Line didn't want to go with that.

I wish they had the music they play at the beginning of the credits, where they cut out the voice in 'The Breaking of the Fellowship'..... its really perty that way, but It wasn't on the soundtrack, and they put a voice on it.

Not that I don't like the voice! Its very beautiful! I just love the music the voice sings over, and I can't hear it that well

Yeah, I wish they had that too! But that's not a replacement for 'In Dreams' really, since In Dreams plays during the credits after May it Be.

But I like both, so I wish they had poth... =/

To respond to some of the previous comments...

The music at the hobbits' party isn't on the CD because it's done by an entirely seperate group (Flaming Red Hair) under a different label.

No, trailer music isn't going to be on a soundtrack either because again such music often comes from a variety of sources. See www.audiblebeauty.net/trailers.htm (http://www.audiblebeauty.net/trailers.htm) for more. Also check out Soundtrack.net's trailer music database (http://www.soundtrack.net/trailers/).

If you want the music underneath In Dreams hop over to track 9 Many Meetings and it's pretty much there (after the first few seconds of intro to Rivendell). Or buy the sheet music like I did and learn to play it the piano or other instrument :)

As for the extended DVD music, my idea is that they should release a big box set after all the movies are out with lots of extra music. The key here though is that there's no division between films, it all just blends together over several discs.

Yes, true, although the music at the end of Journey in the Dark sounds similar.
I noticed quite a lot of missing music, after seeing the movie and listening to the soundtrack so many times. The part in the Shire when Bilbo is trying to give up the ring, and then lets it fall onto the floor of Bag End. The also when he walks off, singing "the road goes ever on and on....." and there is that pretty shire music playing too. That was missed out! mecry .
The music where the fellowship are toiling up the mountainside of caradhras, just before Frodo falls and loses his ring. Then that same music again when they are walking to the Gates of Moria. Also a part during Journey in the Dark when they are talking about Gollum, and Frodo says that he wishes the ring had never gone to him. That was a bummer, i loved that part.
And the Bridge of Khazard Dum music, after gandalf fell. They missed half of that out!!:o .

There is probably more, but i reckon there is enough missed out music left in the movie to make another Soundtrack out of!
