Which sword did you think was the coolest?

Although I thought Sting was kinda neat looking with that curving elven motif on the blade, My vote's gotta go with Herugrim. It's got that Roman short sword look with that wicked double fuller. The horse head crossguards fitting nicely into the sheath caps off the entire effect. Very classy.

Well I really have to go for Sting since I have that one, but my next favourite isn't there- the Witchking Sword- I don't know why, there's just something about it I like!
I'm in hopes that I might get that one this year, I've dropped enough hints!

Since you didn't include Guthwine, Eomer's sword I voted for Theodens lol lol lol

Anduril is "the sword" and has no competition I think

However, the coolest looking sword has to be Herugrim. Like Paladin said it is very "classy". I love the horsehead cross guards. It is a very wicked looking sword and it suits Theoden...:battle:

Okay, I voted for Narsil/Anduril, then remembered (too late) that Glamdring was an option. *hits head repeatedly against a wall* So, I'd like to clarify: Glamdring is my absolute favorite sword out of the options up there, though it ties with Hadhafang as my two favorites out of the trilogy. Hadhafang is so pwetty. ;)

Sting is Frodo's sword, given to him by Bilbo, who called it Sting after killing spiders in Mirkwood with it. The runes on the sword say 'Mageanas is my name, I am the Spiders Bane' ( I hope I spelt that right, too lazy to go upstairs for The Hobbit to check!)

Yeah, and Herugrim is Theoden's sword, whilst Glamdring is Gandalf's.

I voted Anduril. I loved the presentation of it in ROTK. Very long indeed.

I also liked Theoden's sword. The carvings on it was pretty cool and the quality of the sword speaks for itself.

I voted for Narsil/Anduril because I like its name: Flame Of The West. Also, I have placed an order for it. This sword looks fit for a king. Very noble and mighty. My second choice is Glamdring. I have it as a letter-opener. It is very stylish and looks deadly.

Glad to be of service! Straying a little from the point here, when danni mentioned that about not knowing what Sting was, it occured to me that the names of the swords were hardly mentioned in the films.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, Sting was only mentioned by name once in FOTR, as was Narsil.
Then in ROTK, when Elrond gave Aragorn the sword, he said ' Anduril Flame of the West.'
I don't think any of the other swords were referred to by name-but as I say, I could be wrong.

I never heard Glamdring or any other name mentioned. Somehow, naming the swords, and their heritage may be too much of a geek kind of thing (not that there's anything WRONG with that- I know all the names, and even some of the sword's "mates" like Orchrist). It's not really necessary, and may just confuse non-bookies.

Anduril is beautiful...but I'm going to have to go with Theoden's sword, Herugrim...I'm very partial to Rohan, if you can't tell...:p

Although I think Boromir's sword totally fits the man and the warrior, I still love the elven blades (swords, Legolas' knives, even Gil-galad's pike). As with all elfcraft, they are both functional and beautiful. Their form is a perfect match to the elven fighting style and their beauty is unmatched.

I went for Glamdring, i just love those first age Elven weapons

Is it any big difference between the Elven weapons of the first age and those used in helms deep?

I also like the sword of the Nazguls (even if its not on the list) but i guess thats just because i own one
veryhappy

In the films there didnt seem much difference between the Last Alliance Elven Blades and those in Helms Deep. but in the book, the Elves didnt go to Helms Deep, but there would ahve been a marked differnce in the skill of the Smiths of the third age compared to those of the First and so the Baldes would not have been as good

Actually, the name "Sting" is mentioned in TTT too; when Frodo sais "This is Sting. You have seen it before, haven't you, Gollum?" :)

And Gil Galad, something which may be interesting to you, considering you like First Age Elven swords: Narsil dates back to the First Age too :)

I love the Anduril Sword in the books, and though the design looks cool in the movies, it is very tip heavy (due to the hole in the pommel). So that said, my vote is for Glamdring. Glamdring even with a leaf shapped blade is balanced well. It has just the right balance for strong quick attacks.

As does Glamdring unless I've missed my mark...

Watching ROTK today, I think I like Anduril best because it is such an elegant sword. Herugrim is a beautiful weapon, but Anduril just has a certain grace to it.
