Im not quite sure where to put this but anyways...
As much as I like the FOTR (non EE) DVD it still gets me (sometimes) that 2/3's of the screen is covered in black to get a "widescreen" feel..
Since I live in Denmark the only dvd available is the "widescreen" edition Region 2.. So I have thought about buying FOTR 2-disc Fullscreen edition (Region 1) over amazon.com
I have a Region-free dvd-player so the regions isn't a problem my problem is simply........................ is it worth it? Fullscreen would be great, but its pretty difficult getting the dvd to Denmark... I was wondering if anyone else has bought the Fullscreen Edition and could give me some advice?
here it is:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000065U3Q/qid=1080432246/sr=1-5/ref=sr_1_5/104-8323447-3438305?v=glance&s=dvd
I know its complicated but please help.. :(
thanks in advance..

well its not the "widescreen feel".............it IS widescreen........its the ratio thats different, because movie screens are rectangular and tvs are square
widescreen doesnt MISS anything in that letterbox area, AND you get the edges that ARE cut off in the fullscreen version, which is cropped to fit the square ratio of most TV screens

Ahh....Thanks!
But is it worth investing 15 Dollars in? Is the difference really that big?

I don't know anything about the above but I recently was given a dvd zone 1 which I thought my dvd-player would handle without probs, and it didn't. When I phoned the company who sold the player to me they said that you also have to programme your tv to handle such dvd's in order to watch them. The seller obviously used zone-free as a sales-argument, and failed to tell me about the complicated part.
I guess what I'm trying to say is do you know about this tricky bit...maybe not so tricky to you but certainly to me! I don't suppose you'd want to go spending money on something that might not work afterall eh?!

the difference is in the periphery of the screen..........in non wodescreen formats you lose a section off the sides of the picture
in widescreen youre getting ALL the picture
so id say no................stick with widescreen
but its a toss up, if the letterboxing irritates you that much, you may think thats acceptable
me, id rather see all the picture

I'm with Catz on this one, I'd rather see all the picture too. On my old dvd player, which was just a cheap one, I had more of the black bands, I could adjust it slightly without losing anything, but I did lose some subtitles if there was more than one line.
I still get the bands top and bottom with the new player, but this one lets me set the player to widescreen format so they are a lot narrower, and all the subtitles are there. There is an option to zoom to fit the screen, but details are lost from the sides of the picture.
I'd much rather have the widescreen format, I no longer notice the letterbox effect, especially if it's LOTR I'm watching!
Wandering slightly here, I'm curious, has anyone else had trouble with the audio commentary on TTT? It doesn't work on the dvd player,(FOTR does) but they play on my husbands laptop and on the dvd drive which my son installed on my computer. My friend had the same problem, but the commentaries work on the multi region dvd player which her daughter bought her. Anyone else?

I haven't had trouble with subtitles or commentary since I finally bought a stand-alone player (I was using my PS2 before that), so I'm not sure how it's supposed to work. I have heard of people having troubles with slightly older players, since the DVD copy protection methods tend to change faster than people upgrade hardware, who wants to buy a new player every two years after all? Computers are a bit more flexible about that stuff, so pretty much any DVD I've had trouble playing or viewing special features on works fine on my computer.
Don't know if that info is any help, but it might be one explanation.

I maybe should have mentioned that the dvd player was new, bought about the same time as TTT EE, and that's strange about the PS2, because my son doesn't have a dvd and his commentaries worked fine on his PS2.
