Oh boy, that was a HUGE mistake to look at that- I just want everything!
I'm going to have to start buying lottery tickets on a regular basis, and hoping for a miracle! lol

Hehehehe....thanks BG! I kinda think my hall would look wonderfully ME-ish with a Keep it secret chest to store the family's mittens and caps in, and a Dark and light chair to sit on when I put on my shoes!

Did you guys read the part on them wanting feedback from fans on what elvish stuff would be good? 'even if my budget won't allow these items I can clearly see that such pieces would be wonderful! :) :)

Thanks, was fun to try my hand at writing! Oh would wish for a lottery ticket to come in as well but I think the way to do it is buy one first hehehehe.....which I always forget! :)

Did you notice that the map on the tables can be turned to whatever side of the table you're sitting at? That's a real nice feature me thinks!

Love the chest! And the Ent table! Have a job - not good enough - any wealthy individuals out there looking to adopt a 40-something heir?? I think this gets filed with the " must have a mustang horse" dream. I'm getting in line behind everyone else for the lottery.

Wonderful pieces! Wow, just plain old, wow!

Hmmmm, maybe if I go down to bank and make a deserate plea they'd let me get a decent sized line of credit... Or what if I sold the house....

*rushes in* wow there are people in here posting! lol

The pieces are all wonderful and looks sooo well crafted. I betcha a combination of the fact that it's handcrafted, it's solid oak and the work that goes into design makes for the steep prices. I wish I could afford just one little item!!! :( Not ever likely mind you. *sighs*

I don't blame them for the prices, oak is expensive, more difficult to work with than say pine, and worth the money. If you bang into a pine table you can dent it, oak will take a little more wear and tear. Besides the basic materials the engraving they've done also pushes up the price as it's a meticulous job.

I'd like it if they branched out into say an Elven dresser, or a Dwarven footstool, perhaps a hobbit rocking chair. Not that I could purchase any of it. lol

Certainly...and while working with furniture every day I know that oak is also expensive because so much of the material is rejected in the sorting process...lots of it is not usable because the wood is full of airpockets or is too loose because of bad growth...if the year is too warm the trees grow too fast.

It's a pity that one cannot afford such pieces...I too can think of a number of items that would be very desireable!

I'll bow to your obviously superior knowledge of furniture! notworthy I have to admit I'm only a casual wood worker.

With the price issue, I think for the sake of the Tolkien products market I'd rather see expensive well made products that will last, than a line of shoddy and dubious pieces which would only enhance the image of a movie fad (uggh, just thought of that plastic battery operated Sting). This way I'd hope that the items can stand on their own.

Uhum...get off yer knees man! I went to school to learn this, no big deal! lol

I do agree tho...I also see a lot of cheap oak furniture that just don't function...cracks up and twists...such would be totally wrong in such a concept.

Do smilies have knees? :p

Besides oak would their be another quality wood that could be useful for such items (I'm thinking mahogony might be nice).

In fact it could be neat if they matched wood types to cultures.

Say oak for men

Elm for Elves

Walnut for Dwarves

ect...

That's a great idea! It would be lovely to see some of these pieces in mahogany or ebony or teak. If they could be done, that is. After reading those posts from yourself and Cuiel, I'm developing a whole new appreciation for wood work! :)

Really? Hehehehe maybe I should continue educating you guys then! lol

Actually they have two colors for the range...a lighter for Rivendale and a darker for the Gondorian style items. I'm thinking also a less coarse wood for elvish style would be nice...elm or birch...or stained cherry. Birch has some wonderful flaming pattern to it. :) Especially looks wonderful when stained with a warm, light honey color. But also mahogany, dark and slender. Walnut is certainly heavy enough for dwarf furniture, but even oak would do good. All comes down to design tho.

And ofcourse smilies have knees! they just hide them like nice decent smilies!

Really cool site and interview Cuiel! I also appreciate the info on the different woods and their application. I love stained cheery. Its probably my favorite, then oak. Like everyone else said... I need to win the lottery or something so I can buy some of the furniture. It looks like very nice furniture! ;)

Why thank yee Laurelin! I do love wood...and trees...a bit caught in the middle there! lol Working with wood makes you realize that it has qualities you might overlook when buying a finished item...like feel and smell. Oak and walnut smells sooooo good! And a wooden surface treated with oils and waxes makes me wonder why anyone opts for anything else!

Wow...sounds like an exciting project! My dad makes beautiful knives, he gave me one for my 40th this summer...'twas a grand gift! I'll post a piccie later.

Does any of you guys have any ideas on what other M.E. furniture you would like to see made? It's not like we're gonna start sending in requests for them to make and raise expectations on big sales from WotR lol I've just been daydreaming a little hehehe!

I would personally love to see an elvish bed or simply a headboard, and a nightstand to go with it! In dark brown stained birch I think! :)

Laurelin
August 26th,2004, 07:29 PM
Oh, I would love to see an elvish bed and nightstand!!! That would be so awesome. Cool that your dad makes knives. I'd love to see a piccie of it.

:o In that case you either must be loaded or spending all your money on bows! Do you make your own arrows? I saw your Lothlorien bow, its awsome!

Laurelin
August 29th,2004, 11:18 PM
Thanks Cuiel! eBay is our friend! lol That's how we got hubby's bow, quivers, and most of the arrow shafts. So we were lucky there. Hubby makes the arrows. ;) The rest of them, well, I had saved a bunch of money and then got a nice Christmas bonus that paid for them.
