View Full Version : If you could live anywhere in the world...

...Where would it be?
I'd like to live on Vancouver island... Preferrably on the West side, big cities annoy me. (If you consider Victoria "big"... I guess it isn't really... lol) Or in Québec, probably in the Gaspé area. France would also be nice... Or Scandinavia somewhere... But I'm dreaming; the prairies are good enough anyways. lol

Yes, Vancouver Island is really nice, I remember, but I agree that it's better to live away from the tourist areas. Great choice, though.
I think I'd like to live somewhere in Europe... Britain sounds good, esp. Scotland! France is nice, too. Oh, and Hawaii is a wonderful place to live in, even though it's not in Europe!

I'd love to live in Japan, persue my Iaido training there but I dont like the idea of having the racial slurs I've heard Gaijin face there every day (i have several friend who live in japan and have encountered lots of problems being white)...pfbbt
...So america sounds good, I'll only stay where I am under one circumstance, but I dont think that will happen so I've already called the US embassy and been looking slowly into moving, at the end of the year I am putting my application in for "permanent resident" in the USA. As it is I'll probably be boarding with a friend and his wife up in New Hampton NY until I get settled in and can get my own place.
far off dream for now ;)
but as i said if things change here then i will stay...but i want something i dont think i can find where i live at the moment. :)

You cannot help but stand out when over 99% of the population is Japanese, and plus most don't understand or speak English so well.

It's different to standing out then to be racially oppressed because of colour ;) look what happened with the Ainu people ;) the original inhabitants of japan are white.
I know its not everyone, and that its the older frame of mind coming through (after all Japan has always been a secluded country) but a friend of mine in Tokyo has been refused to be served at restraunts, told to leave stores etc just because his white. that isnt right...especially in todays society. And for the record my friends all speak japanese as well as you do, read it and write it (they have to to have citizenship).

Well I'd like to travel around a bit with staying for a while on places (dream on mirky, dream on). I've always wanted to go to Australia and various places in Europe... not too keen on other places really (:

New Zealand, and not just because of LOTR, although that's a pretty good reason- I just think the scenery is fantastic, I'd love to look out of my window and see mountains, or drive out into the middle of nowhere and enjoy the silence! :)

I agree Mithril. I would also like to live in New Zealand. But for Lotr but for the wonderful nature and the beautiful places around.

I've wanted to go to NZ since I was 8, and I know people who live there...maybe I can visit at some point...;)
As for where I want to live, the Pacific North West...oregon, washington, british columbia....any of those. Preferably coastal, I adore the ocean

I just can't imagine living in New Zealand. No winter?!? Okay, maybe it wouldn't be that bad. roflmao Hey, if they filmed LotR in Canada, more than Vani and I would dream of living here. lol
Ooo, another place I've always wanted to visit (though not live in) is Greece. Living in Canada kind of deprives you of any sense of a history, which is probably what I like about Greece... Aside from things like teepee rings... Which are hard to find, and even if you did find one you wouldn't know what it was... I never have.
(Bawax, I laughed for about five minutes straight after reading your signature!! roflmao)

I would have houses everywhere and the time I won't live in any of them, I'd travel around (I really want to see the world from St.Joseph's Land to the Antarctic, from the Rocky Mountains to HongKong).
My favourite places to have a house (each :) ):
Scotland
Sweden
Greenland
Southern France
Riga (Latvia)
Nova Scotia
Cape Town
Patagonia/Fireland
maybe also on Hiddensee (an island in the Baltic Sea) and New Zealand

I rather like the seasons changing...and heat makes my head boil lol so no where near any tropical area that's for sure hehehe! Tho I've always dreamed about going to Provence and Italy I don't think I could live there. Scotland or Irland would be nice...and the south of Sweden...somewhere around Stockholm, so I could take the boat to Gotland whenever I got the urge :) I think I would soon get homesick tho.

Cuiel, you have any special connections to Gotland? I still regret I didn't take the chance to go there when I lived in Stckholm, but the money .... as always. I took a tour to Helsinki and Leningrad (as it was called then), though. Visby is yet missing on my list of Hansa towns (as are Riga and Reval/Tallinn).
I'd rather have a house in Northern Sweden (around Östersund), to be sure I get a decent winter for a change. :)

My connections to Gotland are not such as family ties, I have been there a coupple of times and find the island and city and it's inhabitants to be simply so charming and wonderful that it has captured a part of my heart! I'm taking my family there this summer again, for the medieval week, it will be soooo much fun! Visby is so full of interesting things to do and see, I hope you get a chance to visit some time! It feels like going back in time!
Winter is not something us northeners long for, it's nice while it lasts but I wouldn't mind not haveing to shovel snow for a time! lol

I haven't shoveled snow for several years now and sorta miss it. :)
I know this going back in time feeling. Few towns in Germany have not suffered by destruction in WW2, but sometimes it happens that houses have been reconstructed or the ruins left (which is better than putting some ugly modern building in their place). Wismar is one of these.
You should read my Travel Diary. It is ongoing and I'll add a bit about Lübeck tonight.

I've also got an idea for a novel about pirates in the Baltic Sea in the 14th century - and there Gotland would come in. ;)

I work in the shipping office of a plant that makes tractors and loaders. Every time I ship one off to South Africa, I think of you. I just shipped off 7 last month via Durban.

In my way of thinking, if you can travel, do it ;) I've been super lucky in that I've been able to travel a bit already, but as to living someplace, I'm going to be pretty restricted *sigh* so if you can get about, go for it- it's fun to go to new places just for the heck of it, there doesn't have to be a huge reason to travel ;)
