Hey, I've always wondered which way to spell it; Orli or Orly? In lots of interviews I've seen it spelled Orly. But I always spell in Orli cuz it looks cuter. What do you think?

both are wrong. It's Oily :evilcool:

I've always done "Orli" although I can't imagine that he would really enjoy being called that...;) lol  It sounds very much like a girl's name, there. But it is handy for abbreviations. ;)
How on earth you posted before I did I shall never know, Mirky. You are one slippery character. lol
Oily? That brings to mind the old 'Orli Oily Orily" chant of long ago...lol

LOL, mirky is right.

Although, around here I've always seen it spelled Orli. I haven't ever seen "orly" but I confess I don't get around much where oily is concerned ;)

lol @ Mirky

Yeah, I've always spelled it "Orli" too, but a friend of mine spells it the other way... But I agree, Oily is pretty good too ;)

Mirkgirl: you are hilarious!! I think I like Oily too...:)

Lalaith of Rohan: I've heard the hobbits call him Orli, although I don't know which spelling. It doesn't really sound too much like a name...

Tar-Ancalimë: I've always preferred Orli to Orly...sounds cuter for some reason.

Luvara: I think most people I know spell it Orli too...

I would just like to comment....*clears throat*.... DOES IT REALLY MATTER?!?!?! lol ;) Just kidding, of course these things matter ;) My personal opinion is that Orli is much cuter and nicer

Well in essence it doesn't matter. And to save the forum from yet another Orlando thread. Even tho I pains me grievously, I'm gonna close this place.

But for the Record, I prefer Orli.;)

Well as long as it is a discussion of Orli vs Orly and not some rabid fangirl "omg i luv orlando bloom" thread, I think there's no harm in letting people post their views.

Just, no drooling :fanboy:

Adunauriel
May 14th,2004, 09:22 PM
Well I was afraid it would become that. But if you think it will be ok then allright, I'll leave it. But if it becomes a droolfest, then I'll close it again.;)

It's Orli. Definately.

Oh ofcourse, the other allows those who don't like him to make up bad nicks for him.;)

You know, in Israel, "Orli" is a girl's name..... lol lol lol

Adunauriel
May 17th,2004, 07:32 PM
Well then it's a good thing it's only a nick for him. Altho it's doesn't matter to me anyways. I don't see anything girly about him.;)

Mirkgirl
May 17th,2004, 08:56 PM
why am I not surprised?

And thanks to everyone who liked my input to the thread lol

Adunauriel
May 18th,2004, 12:33 AM
Well it wouldn't be the same without your Oily comment.;)

Lalaith of Rohan
May 18th,2004, 01:37 AM
Now, now, Tar, would we do that? lol ;) :p
You know, in Israel, "Orli" is a girl's name.....
Oh dear...lol

Don't let it bother you LoR. We both know that Orlando isn't girly.;)

Lady of the Rings
May 18th,2004, 02:16 PM
Well I've always written his nickname as 'Orli'. I think it looks nicer that way somehow lol And I agree, Orlando is definately not girly ;)

Adunauriel
May 18th,2004, 07:18 PM
You know, I usually type his name fully. I hardly ever use the nick. I just like Orlando better.;)

I'm sure they picked it off the net just to make fun of Landy ;)

Oily doesn't work as an insult unless you want us ORLI fans to start drooling over our overly active imaginations :)

Adunauriel
May 19th,2004, 07:01 PM
Well I've heard them call him Orli on a number of occasions. So I bet it's really his nick.;)

Tar-Ancalimë

I think it makes him sound very girly. But that's not the only thing about him that sounds girly :p

Adunauriel
May 22nd,2004, 07:50 PM
Ah well that's ok Tar. As I said before, there is nothing about Orlando that is girly.;)

Heart-of-a-Hobbit

I think the spelling Orly sounds more girly because of the 'y' on the end. But yes, there is nothing girly about Orli. :) I think the 'i' spelling is just SO much cuter...

Adunauriel
May 27th,2004, 11:23 PM
Not only that it makes it easier for they haters to call him Oily. So pfbbt to the Y.;)lol

Laurelin
June 22nd,2004, 07:25 PM
Really... the simpliest solution is to just call him Orlando. ;)

Adunauriel
June 22nd,2004, 08:26 PM
And that's what I do, I've always preferd to just say/type Orlando.;)

Lalaith of Rohan
June 23rd,2004, 12:09 AM
I only use "Orli" for typing...Orlando is a lovely name ( :loveyou: ), and I really never could refer to him as "Orli" with all seriousness...I wonder, though, what DO his friends/family call him for a nickname? I mean, how do you get a nickname besides "Orli" or "Landy" from "Orlando"? And I have my doubts about how much he would appreciate being called either of those things...
Nobody can seem to make a nick out of my name either...so everyone just has to say the full name...I think it bothers some people. lol lol  ;)

Adunauriel
June 23rd,2004, 09:11 PM
Well that is a question to ponder. I guess if we ever meet him we'll have to ask.;)

Mirkgirl
June 25th,2004, 08:59 PM
If you girls meet him and manage to ask him a full, sensible question, I'll be really proud of you (:

As to nicknames from family, since when they should have anything to do with the name itself?

Adunauriel
June 26th,2004, 06:36 AM
That is true on both accounts. I doubt seriously we'd get a good question out. And his family could very well have givin him an unusual nick.;)lol

True, but I don't have much experience with that as no one can seem to get a good one from my name...it's a simple name, too!
I bet I could ask him a full, sensible question...it's just the content of the question that would be--um--questionable. lol  lol

Adunauriel
June 27th,2004, 03:49 AM
Ah yes well, questionable content is not easily answered. And I still think you'd have a hard time asking him that question.;)lol

I've used both spelllings, usually in a tongue and cheek reference though, it depends who I'm writing to I guess, but I'm sorry I can't see why a y is cuter than an i...they both sound the same... So what does that make ie? Perhaps there are some people out there that spell Orlando's nick name Orlie...and I agree about nicknames, mine has no relation to any of my given names. Does any of it really make a difference in the scheme of things, what ever makes people happy!

Adunauriel
July 1st,2004, 06:37 AM
Yea I've used both spellings too. I just personally prefer the I ending. It just looks better to me.;)

Maybe if I rehearsed it well enough...Although, I would mean to ask something like, "So, how do you like Kentucky?", and what would come out would be, "You look hot without your shirt on."
roflmao
He'd be like, "Uhhhhh..."

Adunauriel

Either that, or you'd be quickly carted off by his bodyguard.;)lol
