I finally finished it! Sat up till 3-ish in the night to hem the skirt, which was a mile long or so it seemed! lol I wore it to our national liberation day on the 17th of may, and I even got several questions on where I had bought it!:)
Anyways, here it is!

I love it! Did you use a pattern, or just do it from scratch?
I can sew, but I can't design, I need a pattern to make anything.
I can do minor alterations, and I do mean minor!
This is gorgeous though, well done! ;)

Thanks Mithril, I am quite pleased with the result, to say anything else would be a lie hehehe!

I drew a scetch first, after lots of studying medieval gowns and viking gowns...when I saw Arwen's blood red dress for the first time evertyhing clicked into place tho...so I took some elements from that too! I found a pattern which top suited my needs, and drew the skirt longer and wider, cut the sleves above the elbow and the bell sleves I drew freehand. The overdress is really 2 rectangles with the neckline cut a bit deeper than on the underdress, it has loops in the sides to pull the cords through.

The key to all is really finding the right fabrics, I was very lucky to get the deep red velvet from a furniture manufactorer. The patterned top sleves and neckline are also upholstery fabric. The underdress is a quite coarse and heavy linen, a curtain really! :) It was great fun making it, I prob will have to make one for my daughter too!

Thanks so much! But I spent forever making it...lost interest when I realized that I couldn't take it to Scotland to wear on the RotK premiere, and I really had to have the preassure of another event on me to finish it now! lol
