Ive just been watching the feature about the extended DVD on my DVD (that makes sense doesnt it?) and it show's galadriel giving same a rope as his gift? Does this mean that when we get back to the shire it isn't going to be destroyed? Or sam isn't going to plant new trees etc? Or maybe PJ is gonna cut Sharkey???? Worrying thoughts...

I hate to be the one to have to tell this to you scorpioqueen (welcome, btw), but PJ has cut out the Scouring of the Shire altogether. He didn't figure it would work well. There's quite a bit of discussion about floating around here.

I would still like Sam to get the box of dirt with the seed in it, but I guess there is no need now. :(

They go back to Hobbiton, I'm sure. I suppose it will be just as it always was. I know how you feel, when I first found out I felt just like that. The shock fades into a sort of understanding. Need a tissue? *hugs scorpioqueen*

I'm sure the Rosie - Sam relationship will be in as Sean Astin's daughter was cast as Elenor. Lotho Baggins has also been cast, though I'm not sure what part he will play in the story. Apart from that I know nothing.

Thanks for the comforting thoughts, Nessa.

Although I've already expressed my disappointment for P.J. deleted SOTS from ROTK, the return to Hobbition at the end of the film is quite good to hear. :)

I agree with Nessa. I think when they get back, there'll be a few short scenes with other hobbits (nothing to do with the scouring) and then Frodo will set off for the havens. It should, I hope, end with Elanor on Sam's lap just like the book. Pleeeeease PJ, Do it!!! :)

Ah, Ringbearer, I would like that.... but Aragorn's death is most likely in the film, the only way around having that last would be a flash-forward, or something.

I say Aragorn's death is probably in because of the line Liv Tyler recited on the extended DVD: "Would you, Lord, leave your people before your time has come?" Or something like that.... plus it would only make sense, closure and all.....

I am going to miss the scouring (maintaining subject!).

i woz devastated when they sed the scouring wouldnt be in the book. That's when Merry and Pippin get to show off their new skills, and it shows that ALL hobbits will stand up for themselves. Plus it was supposed to be a poignant moment in the book. Also What about the mallorn in the party field???:( :( :(

I want to see the mallorn's that Sam plants too. (plus big fan of merry so any excuse for me to see more of him. ;) )

 That's it girl! :)

I think it is a lovely thought that Galadriel and the elves were able to give something to the hobbits...who would out-stay their time in Middle Earth. Sam recieving a rope...now i remember...it hadn't registered yet that he wouldn't get his box too. Poor sam! Rope is a really naff gift!

FRODO: So....sam....what did the lady give YOU?
SAM: Oh...um....not much....you?
FRODO, PRODUCING PHIAL FROM POCKET: The light of Earendil! So really what u get?
SAM: Do yuo hear someone calling for us? *dashes off crying into the trees* mecry

I started to read the book again the other day and I feel one of the reasons PJ is leaving it out is because it has nothing to do with the main tale. Look at what happened with Tom Bombadil and the Barrow Wights, completly left out because it didn't really advance the film. A pitty considering the indepth description tolkein gives of 'Old Willow'

I agree Treebeard. It was like 'oh my god!' They made it and destroyed the ring and now they have to face a threat so small it isn't even worth it.

Bonos-Girl

but it shows the strength of the hobbits...and its sooo sad...and it would make the film last longre....

What you say Narsil I totally agree with. However taking a quote from the book, Frodo says about Saruman 'he was once a great man'. Although he had lost all his powers (presumably) they may have been a little left in him. So to leave out the Scourging of the Shire may be a little 'hasty'

How would they then explain Saruman's death, I wonder...
