View Full Version : Possible new RPG: "The Downfall of Númenor"

I had this idea for a new RP and wondered if we could get enough people to play it. Since the Downfall of Númenor is not told in much detail I thought that we could amplify it a bit. ;) Here is a quick outline and a list of characters that would need to be in it.

I was thinking that it could start some time after Ar-Pharazôn brings Sauron back to Númenor, but before he cuts down the white tree. So the date would be around SA 3310. It would end after Númenor is destroyed (duh) in SA 3319, so about 9 years will need to pass from the beginning of the RP to the end.

Types of characters that would appear: Men of Númenor, and Valar. The men will be either loyal to the king (the King's Men), or loyal to the Valar (the Faithful).

Main characters from the story that would need to be played by someone:

— Ar-Pharazôn, King of Númenor
— Ar-Zimraphel (AKA Tar-Míriel) wife of the king (might be easier if the same person played the king and his wife)
— Amandil, Lord of Andúnië and leader of the Faithful
— Elendil, son of Amandil
— Isildur, son of Elendil
— Sauron (currently in human form)

Some key events that would have happen are as follows:

— The completion of Melkor's temple (I figure the RP could start just before it's completed)
— Isildur must steal a fruit from Nimloth the white tree. He is discovered and must fight his way out, getting badly wounded.
— Sauron persuades Ar-Pharazôn to cut down Nimloth. It's wood is burned in the temple as a sacrifice.
— Ar-Pharazôn builds the Great armament, which takes nine years to complete
— The Faithful are persecuted. Some are captured and sacrificed to Melkor in the temple.
— Amandil sets sail to Aman to plead with the Valar. He is never seen again.
— Elendil and his sons gather some of the Faithful and leave Númenor so they won't have to join in Ar-Pharazôn's war with the Valar.
— Ar-Pharazôn sails to Aman with is fleet and lands on its shores. His fleet is destroyed and he and his men are buried under the mountains.
— Númenor sinks under the ocean. Tar-Míriel drowns. The ships of the Faithful sail to Middle-earth.

OK, that is a very sketchy outline, but if you've read the Sil then you know what happens. This RP will require a lot of characters. I don't want to actually start until we have enough people willing to finish it. A good grasp of Númenorian history is almost a must. But if you don't know much about it and would still like to join, please be willing to looked up the necessary facts before posting. Besides Akallabêth in the Sil, some other good reference material for the Downfall can be found in "The Complete Guide to Middle-earth," and "The Lost Tales of Númenor and Middle-earth."

WHEN CREATING CHARACTER'S NAMES please keep in mind which side they represent. All those loyal to the king would have Númenorian names, that is Adûnaic. Any of the Faithful would have two names, one Adûnaic public name, and one Quenya name they would use among others of the Faithful. Usually the two names would have the same meaning. (If you need help with Adûnaic names I would be willing.)

Well, that's about it for now. Let me know what you think and if you would like to play. Keep in mind that this will be a long RP, so please don't join unless you're pretty sure you can say on until the end. I think it's sad when RPs are never finished. mecry
Anyway......I'll be posting my character profile soon.

Hey there i'm really interested in joining this RPG but there aren't any female characters :( - any suggestions?

Wilwarin
June 7th,2004, 10:22 PM
There is the Queen. Or you could always make up your own character. The characters I listed above are simply characters that are already in the story and must be played. But that doesn't mean you can't make up other characters too. :) I will be making up my own female character. So go ahead!

I would love to join this RP, Wil. I have read the Sil, but I will read the part you mentioned again as I don't have a terribly good memory :). Is 'The Lost Tales of Númenor and Middle-earth' a separate bok or part of another? I have some books aside from LotR and the Sil, but I don't know what relevance they would have. I would also like to play a female character (although I am certain I don't want to play the Queen - I am too ignorant :) and I don't like humans enough :)) and I would like to be either an elf or one of the Valar. If I can't, then I don't mind and I would still like to be a part of the RP. :) I love your idea :)

Etaina
June 7th,2004, 10:47 PM
erm KK think I'll play an elf of the Valar then - when you've posted your profile i will post mine :)

Wilwarin
June 7th,2004, 10:49 PM
Well, the problem is, there aren't any Elves in this story, since by this time they have stopped coming to Númenor because of persecution. So any character that you play has to be either a human or a Vala. Just keep in mind that the Valar aren't in it all that much. So if you want to post regularly then you might want to play a woman. Or you could play both! lol

As for the books, "The Lost Tales" is a seperate book. Another great book I forgot to mention is "The Unfinished Tales". It has a really detailed description of the island of Númenor in it, plus some other helpful stuff.

Melathwen
June 7th,2004, 11:09 PM
Ah! I have that book! Well, since I don't want to play just a woman, I would like to play a Vala, too, if you don't mind. Although, at the moment, I haven't any idea what sort of characters they are or what they do. I need to do a lot of reading, but that isn't hard for me! So, when you get this RP started, I would love to join! :) :) :)

June 7th,2004, 11:40 PM
Well good. And if you know anyone who would also be interested please tell them. We need all the people we can get.

Here is the profile for my main character.

Names: Arameldo among the Faithful, to the King's Men he is Karîbzîl
Race: Man
Date of birth: SA 3288. (which makes him 22 at the beginning of the RP)
Affiliation: One of the Faithful
Appearance: 6' 3'' tall. Black, wavy, shoulder-length hair, smooth face. Small pale scar on right cheek.
Personality: A kind, observant man, often quiet. But when he is passionate about something he is not afraid to speak his mind.
Weapons: A bow and arrows, used for hunting. Also carries a sword called Elmentë, which is a family heirloom.
Horse: He does have a favorite horse, but I haven't figured out the name yet.
History: Born in the city of Nísimaldor. When he was twelve his family moved to Rómenna with many others of the Faithful. Though all his family before him loved the sea, Arameldo's heart dwells in the forest or with his horses. At a very young age he learned to tame horses as no one else could. So earned him the name Hérocco, Horse Master, among the Faithful. He owns a bit of land a few miles from Rómenna where he breeds and trains some of the finest horses in Númenor. Men come from all over to purchase horses from him. Arameldo has a lifelong friend named Silmarin. He has grown to love her over the past few years, and is seriously considering marriage, but is unsure how Silmarin feels.

I have two other characters that I will be playing, Arameldo's father and sister. I will post their profiles as soon as I can write them.

You might have noticed that I posted his date of birth insead of his age. That is because the PR takes place over nine years time. So his age will be changing. To determine your character's date of birth simply decide how old you want he/she to be at the begining, then subtract that number from 3310 and you have the character's birth year. :)

Wilwarin
June 8th,2004, 05:16 AM
OK, here are my other two characters.

Names: Among the Faithful, Tulcorë. To the King's Men he is "Azrukarab"
Race: Man
Date of birth: SA 3247 (which makes him 63 at the beginning of the RP)
Affiliation: One of the Faithful
Appearance: Tall, well-built. Has slight graying black hair and beard. Tanned skin.
Personality: Quiet and soft-spoken, though has great authority among his men.
Weapons: Carries only a medium-sized dagger. But has mush skill with a bow and sword.
History: Was born in the city of Nísimaldor where he became a respected ship's captain. Later he moved his family to Rómenna to be with others of the Faithful. There he continued his life as a ship's captain. He owns one ship named "Tindómë" which is mainly used for transport, and another ship called "Nenalarca" which is a fishing vessel.

***

Names: Among the Faithful, Alcariel. To the King's Men she is "Azraphel"
Race: Man (or woman)
Date of birth: SA 3292 (which makes her 18 at the beginning of the RP)
Affiliation: One of the Faithful
Appearance: Slender and in good physical shape. Long black hair usually worn in a braid. Has slightly tanned skin.
Personality: An impetuous woman. Must always speak her mind. In the company of men she considers herself equal, if not superior. She commands respect simply by the wisdom and knowledge she possesses and the way she carries herself.
Weapons: Knows how to shoot a bow, but does not keep weapons of her own, as she has had no need for them.
Horse: A golden-red mare named Culina, given to her as a gift from her brother.
History: Born in the city of Nísimaldor. Moved with her family to Rómenna when she was eight. She lives in a house in the city with her father and mother. Unlike her brother, Alcariel loves the sea, and although she is a woman, desires to be a ship captain like her father. She grew up accompanying him on voyages, and has learned everything from him.

Oh I'm sorry, Etaina. I just told Melathwen that she could play Silmarin. :(
Are you having trouble coming up with a character?

Etaina
June 9th,2004, 11:40 AM
sort of yeah lol but i'm sure i'll find somthing :-)

Wilwarin
June 9th,2004, 04:59 PM
Well, you could always play the wife of one of the main guys in the story. Isildur's for instance (Actually, I was thinking of maybe playing Isildur myself). It doesn't say exactly when Isildur was born, but he was in his youth when he took the fruit from Nimloth. Now, according to Númenorian standards, I would guess that would be his early twenties. So he probably has a girl friend at that point, and they may even be betrothed by then too. Though it never mentions the name of his wife, we know he had one because he later has four sons!

Anyway, it was just a thought. You of course don't have to play her. But if I end up playing Isuldur, then you would at least have someone to interact with.

No problem!

We still need someone to play Ar-Pharazôn and Sauron (the main bad guys) And Amandil and Elendil (the main good guys). So please, people, if you know of anyone who would be interested please let them know.

Etaina
June 9th,2004, 07:00 PM
sure thing but if your really desprate i could play two characters - not fussed just loveee RP lol

Wilwarin
June 9th,2004, 07:16 PM
Please feel free to play as many characters as you like. It looks like I've got four in this RP, and I've also got three others in another one! Of ofcurse, being an author, I'm used to juggling multiple characters from several different stories at once. It all depends on what you think you can handle, and the time you have to devote to them.

Dawnnamira Nerwen
June 9th,2004, 07:33 PM
I want to play someone. lol

I haven't decided who yet though...((Until I saw Etaina's post accepting Isildur's bethrothed I was going to 'apply' for that one..))

Maybe I'll be Elendil. Or Sauron.

Wilwarin
June 9th,2004, 07:36 PM
Welcome Dawn! Please pick anyone. We need to get most of the main characters filled before we can start the RP. (Too bad they all had to be men huh?) :p Of course, you could always play the queen.

Dawnnamira Nerwen
June 9th,2004, 07:53 PM
Yeah...but, I'm playing an even amount of both genders. (Two each... ;) )

I think I'll take the queen of Numenor...(It should be interesting...)

Can you post a profile for her? Because it seems that you've got access to more info about her than I do.

Melathwen
June 9th,2004, 08:06 PM
Can I play a male character as well? I haven't really done that before, and I think it'll be interesting. Perhaps you could suggest one, Wil? I really wouldn't be good at a bad guy, but any of the good guys, except the King :)

Wilwarin
June 9th,2004, 08:18 PM
Well, there's still Amandil. He's Elendil's father, Lord of Andúnië and the leader of the Faithful. So basicly he's the head 'good guy'. He finds out that the king is planing an attack on Aman, so he decides to sail there first and warn the Valar. He is never heard from again.

There is also Elendil. After Amandil sails for Aman, Elendil gathers up a bunch of the Faithful and they sail away from Númenor so they don't get conscripted into the king's war. That's why they survive the Downfall, because they weren't there when it happened.

Now, I'm sure there are also other men in the story, friends of the main characters that you could make up. It's totally up to you. :)

Dawn: I'll post that profile for you in a few minutes.

Thanks a bunch Wil!!!

June 9th,2004, 08:52 PM
Played by: Dawnnamira Nerwen
Names: Publicly she is Ar-Zimraphel, Queen of Númenor, but to the Faithful she is Tar-Míriel.
Race: woman
Date of Birth: Exact date unknown. But she was born before SA 3288, so she is at least 80 years old at the beginning of the RP (still young in Númenorian standards)
Affiliation: Secretly one of the Faithful
Appearance: Skin: A healthy pink; Eyes: A very dark hunter green, small specks of hazel surrounding the pupils; Hair: Very Glossy black, long, ending near the middle of her back. Often has a small smile on her face, and almost always looks like she's about to laugh out loud...Usually wears pastel colors, only wearing more vibrant colors when appearing beside her husband.
History: Míriel was the only child of Tar-Palantir King of Númenor. She was raised in the ways of the Faithful by her father and her grand mother Inzilbêth. When her father died she assumed the throne as ruling queen. But her cousin, Pharazôn, forced her to marry him, after which he usurped the sceptre and changed her name to Ar-Zimraphel.
Notes: When Númenor is destroyed Tar-Míriel tries to climb to the peak of Meneltarma and seek shelter in the Hallow of Eru. But the waves overtake her before she can reach the summit.

There you go Dawn. If you need any more information that you can't seem to find anywhere I'll see what I can do to help.

Wilwarin
June 10th,2004, 02:31 AM
I just had a thought, it doesn't say anywhere when Tar-Míriel's grandmother, Inzilbêth died. We could say she is still alive (since it would be possible) and someone could play her. I can imagine that she was very close to Míriel and was a means of emotional support for her. Might be an interesting character to play if anyone is interested.

Okay Wil...Just wanted to say that I added Míriel's appearance to your post. (Edited it in...)

And, having a grandmother would be a fascinating idea. lol

June 10th,2004, 07:11 PM
Wilwarin told me that there was a position open for a villain... lol so I'm here to apply for Sauron. :flamer:
I know only the bare minimum about what actually happens; mostly what happens at the end, and the erection of Morgoth's Temple. :)

Wilwarin
June 11th,2004, 05:51 AM
:hooray: Yay! A villain. Welcome Saruman!
I suggest reading the last half of Akallabêth in the Sil. That should bring you up to speed on things. Don't worry, it's not that long ;) But, if by chance you don't have a copy of the Sil (:o) then we'll just take it one step at a time.

Are you sure you want to play only Sauron? Ar-Pharazôn is a pretty nasty guy too. Oh sorry, no presure. ;)

Melathwen
June 11th,2004, 03:50 PM
Ok, here's Silmarin's profile. :)

Names: Silmarin among the Faithful, Urinimir otherwise
Date of Birth: SA 3291 (which makes her 19 at the start of the RPG)
Affiliation: One of the Faithful
Appearance: Reasonably short, with long chestnut hair and bright green eyes, outlined (the iris ) with a much darker green. Her skin is quite pale, and her lips are full and a deep red. She is very willowy, and does not look strong. In the habit of wearing dark forest green or cream dresses.
Personality: Very vivid. Not afraid to speak out, and doens't think much about the consequences before she does. Quite outgoing, but can be shy... sometimes.... She is kind, however, and caring.
Weapons: None, at the moment. I am considering the idea that she asks for training, with all the disquiet there is. I haven't decided.
Horse: A beautiful black mare called Turilya. Very proud, and stictly a little too big for Silmarin. She was a gift from Arameldo for her sixteenth birthday.
History: Born in the same place as Arameldo, Nisimaldor, and moved to Romenna when he did. They have always known each other. She loves Arameldo with her whole heart, but isn't sure if he returns the feelings. They have always been good friends, but she has recently realised that he has become more than a friend.

Right, now I've got my character, I'll go read Akallabêth. :)

June 12th,2004, 01:27 AM
Oh Etaina, I almost forgot! Here are some name ideas for your character. Sorry it took so long!

Aiwenil "lover of birds" [EYE-wen-ill]
Relírë "day of song" [reh-LEER-eh]
Nolwë "Wisdom" [NOHL-weh]

If you don't like any of those I have others.

Alright, I'd just like to review all the characters that we have so far.

Characters from the book
Sauron — played by Saruman
Isildur — played by me (which reminds me, I need to post his profile)
Tar-Míriel — played by Dawn

Invented characters
Arameldo — played by me
Tulcorë, father of Arameldo — also played by me
Alcariel, sister of Arameldo — me also (wow, I have a lot of characters!)
Silmarin — played by Melathwen
As yet unnamed betrothed of Isildur — played by Etaina

I think that's all so far. Here are the remaining book characters that need to be played. So feel free to choose one if you like.

Amandil (leader of the Faithful)
Elendil (son of Amandil and father of Isildur)
Ar-Pharazôn (king of Númenor)
One of three faithful servents to Amandil (they go with him on his fateful voyage)
Inzilbêth (grandmother of Tar-Míriel)

Other types of invented characters that we still need are:

One or more soldiers of the king
Some MEN of the Faithful. (we have a lot of women already, now we need some men lol )

That's about it so far. If I forgot any let me know.

Wilwarin
June 12th,2004, 02:10 AM
Sorry for double posting.

Etaina, I can't post Isildur's profile until I know the name you pick for his girl friend, since I'm going to mention her in it. Oh and, don't forget to make her from a noble family. Isildur is, after all, from the highest of the noble families in Númenor (not including the royal family of course ;) ) I think he would most likely marry another noble.

Etaina
June 13th,2004, 08:32 PM

Character: Extremley loyal and wise beyond her years she brings peace and strenght to all in their darkest hour. All those who know her love her and are drawn to the vivid warmth of her personality; prone to a scathing wit but never loses hope.
Weapons: none (despite her protests)
Appearance:Very pale vivd silvery/gold hair curling just above waist. Pericing ivy green doe shaped eyes creamy skin , tall and slender with full rose tinted lips.
Clothing: usually wears regal intense gowns of blue or green to match her eyes.
Other: master horsewoman and relishes a challenge especially of the waring kind with can lead to restlessness. Only held back by duty to others. Creamy gold mare called Luthiwen whom she had from a foal and reared herself; very bonded.

thanks Wilwarin for the beautiful names! hope my profile's ok if not just tell me and I'll change it pronto - cheers!

June 14th,2004, 01:16 AM
That's nice Etaina. So this is the girl friend of Isildur, am I right? You didn't mention that in the profile. Are they betrothed yet? They probably should be huh? It would make it easier. I was going to post Isildur's profile, but I wanted to mention if he was betrothed or not. Just let me know what you think.

We need more people! Can you guys PM your RPG friends and invite them to play? It'd be fun to get this game going.

Saruman: You need to post a profile for Sauron.

Well, no one has taken Amandil yet, although I don't think he will have a terribly long part lol There is his son, Elendil, I don't think we have him yet... Then of course you could just make up a few soldiers, King's Men and Faithful... Some nobles will surely be needed, no court is complete without nobles... and we'll need some more bad guys... the list is almost endless lol Take your pick :)

June 14th,2004, 10:18 PM
Welcome Lothirrim!

See my long post above for a list of characters that we still need. We really need male characters. And you can play more than one if you like. I like playing more than one because if one character isn't doing anything for a while, then I can post something for the other one. :)

Wilwarin
June 16th,2004, 05:19 AM
OK. Here's my profile for Isildur.

Name: Isildur
Race: Man
Date of Birth: Exact date unknown. He was in his youth in 3310, so I will make up a date of 3287 (which would make him 23 at the begining of the RP)
Affiliation: One of the Faithful
Appearance: Tall, well-built. Has shoulder-length, wavy, black hair.
Personality: Couragous and loyal. Outgoing. Has a desire for heroism and adventure (which often gets him into trouble). Sometimes has a problem with authority and takes matters into his own hands. Takes seriously his high standing among the Faithful. Does not flaunt his nobility, but does not let people forget it either.
Weapons: Very skilled with his sword, also has some skill with a bow.
History: Born in Rómenna into the highest of the noble families in Númenor. His father is Elendil, son of Amandil, Lord of Andúnië. Like all men of Númenor, Isildur loves the sea, and spends much of his time out on his boat. His over-developed sense of aventure has caused his father much grief. But Isildur loves his father very much and is very loyal to him. Isildur is betrothed to Relírë, a woman from a noble house.

Is anyone still interested in this RP? I hope so.

I was thinking that we should start it soon so no one loses interest. I could begin it, if everyone feels confident enough with their characters. Any main characters that haven't been filled yet (like Elendil and Ar-Pharazôn) can remain open until someone desides to take full controll of them. Actually, I was thinking about playing Ar-Pharazôn myself if no one else wants to. But if anyone else is interested that's fine to, I don't HAVE to play him. Good grief! I've already got 8 characters total! But that's no problem for me, I don't mind acquiring others  But now I'm rambling...

Anyway, just let me know what you guys think. If I get everyone's consent then I'll go ahead and start the RP.

Saruman

Sorry for the lateness of this. Here is Sauron's profile:
Name: Sauron
Race: Maiar
Biography: Once a Maia of Aule the Smith, but corrupted by Melkor. As Melkor's apprentice, he became a powerful sorceror and commander of his armies. When Melkor was overthrown, Sauron fled into hiding. He, disguised in fair form, forged the Rings of Power with the Elves. He then forged the One Ring to rule all rings in whose making he had been involved. He sent an army to defeat the Elves, who had perceived his intentions in their Rings (which he had not helped to make), but the army itself was defeated by the Numenorians, from which stems Sauron's hatred and desire for revenge on Numenor.

I think I have that right. lol Are we starting from when the Numenorians are about to capture Sauron, or when Sauron has been captured and is a prisoner on Numenor?

Etaina
June 19th,2004, 11:10 AM
yeah I'm pretty confident to start now - just let me no :)

Melathwen
June 19th,2004, 12:00 PM
Yea, Wil, whenever you're ready. But you might want to consider holidays, or vacations, if you're American, and when or if people are going away. I am away 8-21 August, and another two weeks (for which I don't have dates yet) when I will not be able to come online. Other than that - I can't wait to get started! :)

Wilwarin
June 19th,2004, 07:00 PM
OK well, do you think we should wait? I'll be here all summer, but I know a lot of you have vacations. We could always pause the RP if someone has to leave, then pick it up again when they get back.

Saruman, it starts after Sauron has been taken to Númenor, just before the temple to Melkor has been finished. When I start the thread I'll give a brief prologue if that will help everyone out.

Keep in mind that this takes place over a 9 year time period. So we're going to have to have some kind of outline at some point. But we'll worry about that once the RP starts.

Dawnnamira Nerwen

Let's go ahead and start it.

I'm ready. lol

Wilwarin
June 20th,2004, 02:30 AM
OK. I won't be able to do it until later tomorrow though. Also, I think I'm going to go ahead and play Ar-Pharazôn. I've never played a bad guy before. ;) :naughty:

Saruman
June 20th,2004, 09:27 AM
You should, it's extremely fun. lol

Wilwarin
June 20th,2004, 08:37 PM
alrighty, I've don't it! :hooray:

Saruman: Hope you don't mind, I introduced Sauron already, I had to because Ar-Pharazôn was talking to him. Now, at some point really soon Sauron needs to persuade the king to start performing sacrifices in the temple. But I don't think he should do that until after they burn the White Tree. But Sauron also needs to persuade the king to build the Great Armament to sail Aman. So maybe he could mention it now, that might be good.

All right everyone, beging posting! :)

PS. I'll post Pharazôn's profile later today.

Wilwarin
June 21st,2004, 04:46 AM
And here it is.

Name: Ar-Pharazôn, King of Númenor
Race: Man
Date of Birth: exact date unknown. Was born in the late 31st century. So I will guess a birth year of 3180 (making him 130 years old at the start of the RP)
Affiliation: Well, he's the king, so he would be the leader of the King's Men! He hates the Valar.
Appearance: Has a tall, imposing presence. Dark hair worn long and straight. Has a trimmed beard. He has piercing black eyes that command obedience, not many can withstand his gaze for long.
Personality: A charismatic and prideful man. Easily angered. Personal glory is all that can make him happy. Very prejudiced against the Faithful.
Weapons: An expert with a sword. He also carries a dagger or two with him at all times.
Ship: Alkarondas "Castle of the Sea," the flag ship of his fleet.
History: During the reign of his uncle, Tar-Palantir, Pharazôn became the leader of the rebellious Númenoreans (the King's Men). He and his other uncle, Gimilkhâd secretly oppressed the king, who later died from grief and weariness. After the king's daughter, Tar-Míriel, took her place as ruler of Númenor, Pharazôn forced her to marry him even though they were first cousins. After which he usurped the sceptre and became king of Númenor, changing his wife's name to Ar-Zimraphel. In the height of his power he sailed with a great army to Middle-earth and humbled Sauron, taking him back to Númenor as a prisoner. But Sauron soon took control of the king's mind to achieve his own ends.

((And yes, it's great fun to play villians))

Melathwen
June 21st,2004, 07:18 PM
Ok, most of you probably know I'm obsessed with elves, and Wil has given me permission to play an elf, although none know she is an elf. Here is her profile:

Name: Her true name is Melathwen, but the faithful call her Eruanna and the King's Men call her... Wil? Help please? lol
Race: Elf, in secret
Date of Birth: Deep in the First Age, so she is several thousand years old, although I don't actually know how long the First Age lasted. Anyone who could shed light on that for me, I will be very grateful to :) Most think she is no more than twenty, for they do not think her of Numenorean blood, and she is careful not to let her age show in her wisdon or eyes
Affiliation: One of the Faithful, although she is deep in the favour of the King. She passes information to the Faithful, and helps them where she can, but she will not endanger her own life
Appearance: Naturally quite tall, one of the tallest women at court. She has incredibly long, thick hair that is the colour of ripe wheat. Her eyes are a piercing blue, but not many see what they really look like. Her skin is very pale, and does not darken in the sun, a fact she carefully hides.
Personality: Kind and caring, she loves growing things, like all elves. She does have a biting tongue sometimes, but mostly she guards it well. She rarely shows emotion, but she feels deeply for most things, be they human, creature or plant.
Weapons: Trained with other elves, she can wield bow, sword or knives with skill, though she has handled no weapon for many years. She has weapons, a bow, a long, slightly cirved sword and two knives, kept in a locked trunk in her room, but they never leave it.
Horse: A fine beast of proud bearing, swift, with a fair amount of endurance, which seems more because she is lighter than humans. Her name is Aranel, and they have a fast friendship.
History: Born in Doriath, she lived in relative peace for many years. She has a house in Romenna, with the Faithful, and rooms in the Palace in whatever sity the King is in, I forgot the name. She is more beautiful than humans, and therefore much favoured in the court, though she favours none in return, for they would be too close to finding her secret then. Not even the Faithful know she is an elf. Her hair is carefully braided each morning and evening to ensure that her ears cannot be seen, and she may seem distant and cool when anyone comes too close to guessing her secret. She keeps her opinions well hidden, but seeths when the King degrades the Eldar or the Valar, and more hotly when he slanders Illuvatar, but she cannot say anything. Her curiosity caused her to stay when the other elves left, she wanted to see what messes humans could get themselves into, though she was strongly advised against it.

Nice Mel

In answer to some of your questions:

Êruyô is the Adûnaic form of Eruanna.
Kalizir is the Adûnaic form of Melathwen.

You can choose which one you like best. I think the first one seems rather masculine though.

The First Age is guessed to have lasted for 543—600 years. I suppose with that bit of info you can do the math yourself ;)

And the city where the king lives, which is the capital of Númenor, is called Armenelos.

There, I think that was all the questions you had :)

Wilwarin
June 22nd,2004, 10:56 PM
Etaina: I was just wondering what Relírë is doing in the king's court. Since I play Isildur and she is Isildur's bride, I need to know where she is and what she's doing, and whether or not Isildur knows about it.
You can PM me if you want. Thanks!

Melathwen
June 24th,2004, 05:18 PM
I have a name now, that she will be called in court, thanks to Wil, of course ;) Anyway, the King etc call her Phelômi, which means 'daughter of the night', if I remember correctly. Thanks again, Wil!

hey Mel, Arameldo had asked Silmarin a question a while back. Were you going to have her answer him? Or can I move him on to his next scene? Just wanted to check with you first.

Melathwen
June 25th,2004, 07:12 PM
Sorry! I didn't see it. Well, I did, but it didn't register. Well, I'll go post her answer now...

btw, this thread should be renamed OOC, since that's really what it is now. Maybe you should speak to Dawn... ;)

Wilwarin
June 28th,2004, 04:53 PM
Hmm, we should get the king and queen together, don't you think? So we can see how they interact. I don't suppose it's a happy marrige, since he forced her into it, and their first cousins and all.

Dawnnamira Nerwen
June 28th,2004, 06:06 PM
Yeah...Where is the King right now?

Wilwarin
June 29th,2004, 04:01 AM
Alrighty.

We really need to find someone who would like to play either Amandil or Elendil or both. They are the leaders of the Faithful after all, and much of the story revolves around them. The story can't really get going without them.

I've been asking people if they would like to join, but so far no one has seemed interested. Glorfindel said he might, but that was several days ago, and so far he hasn't shown up. If you guys know anyone who might be interested, Pleeeease let them know!

Telumehtar
June 29th,2004, 06:33 AM
I would join, but I haven't finished the Sil and I don't know the plot. :(
~Telu :flamer:

Melathwen
June 29th,2004, 07:10 PM
Hey, I've read it, forgotten it and will have to be told everything! If you want to join, don't let it stop you ;)

btw, she's Phelômi, Wil, just so you know ;)

Wilwarin
June 29th,2004, 08:41 PM
Ah yes, Phelômi. I should remember that, I made it up! lol

Telu, the only part of the Sil that you need to read for this is "Akalabeth". It's about the Downfall of Númenor. So go ahead and skip forward if you like. It's sort of disconected from the rest of the Sil anyway.
We would LOVE to have you join!

Is Relire supposed to have met someone else lol: she's innocent honest!

Wilwarin
July 1st,2004, 04:47 PM
lol No, I know she's innocent. But Isildur doesn't. He just want's to find out where she's been, since she told him she was just visiting a friend in Rómenna, but he knows she did more than that, he just doesn't know what. that's all. :)

Etaina
July 1st,2004, 05:20 PM
ohhhhh I seee lol will post her 'greeting' you when 2 ppl had posted before me :-)

OK. Just make sure the council is over first. Isildur will meet her outside in the courtyard.

Hey guys have just (literally) got a new LOTR role paying board up and going and in desperate need of a moderator! Follow the link and get role-playing! Sorry If I ain't allowed to do this but can anyone tellme where to get Affilates from?

Maikanarë
July 4th,2004, 12:14 PM
I have read the RP and would like to play Amandil, is this is okay? :)

Amandil Lord of Andunie

Birthday: Unknown, but he's old enough to be the grandfather of Isildur and Anarion.

Affiliation: He is the leader of the Faithful in Romenna

Appearance: Tall and dark, very noble. Kindly face. He is beginning to grey a little.

History: This mighty captain of the line of Elros is held in high esteem by many. His position as counsellor to Ar-Pharazon was lost with the capture of Sauron. It was him who lead in the gathering of the remaining Faithful to the city of Romenna in the east. He is especially hated by Sauron. He is the father of Elendil.

Personality: He is thoughtful, kind, and gentle-tempered.

Weapon: Sword

I could also play Elendil if its still needed, at least until someone else comes along and wants to?

I'm sort of new to RPing, but please don't hesitate to let me know if I do something wrong. :)

Etaina
July 4th,2004, 04:32 PM
Hey Maikanarë! You're very welcome to join look forward to your first post and pass the word around: we still need more players!

Wilwarin
July 5th,2004, 06:18 AM
Welcome Maikenarë! Yay! We have someone to play Amandil!
Are you very familiar with the Downfall of Númenor? Just curious.
Oh and, if you want to play Elendil, go right ahead. So far no one else has offered.

Maikanarë
July 5th,2004, 01:15 PM
No worries... I am very familiar with it.

Melathwen
July 5th,2004, 05:45 PM
Hey, finally we have Amandil! Hey, do you want to find out Mel's secret somehow? I want someone to find out, and it could be an intersting start for your character. Think about it and let me know ;)

Wilwarin
July 5th,2004, 07:48 PM
Also, Maikanarë (gee, what do they call you for short? ;) ) If you've read the RPG then I'm sure you know that there is a council going on right now. Since Amandil is the leader of the Faithful, he is in charge of the council. Since I'm playing only Isildur I can't say much about what the council is talking about because right now Isildur doesn't have his mind on any of it.
Phew! Did that make sense? Anyway. So, perhaps you could have Amandil give a few last words and dismiss the council? That might be a good place to start.

Melathwen
July 7th,2004, 07:49 PM
Dawn, does Tar-Miriel know Melathwen, and know her as one of the Faithful? I am assuming she would, and we could have some quite interesting developments there. If, say, the King were to be smitten with Melathwen's elven beauty, they could have some fun toying with him, and with the subtlety of women, make sure he never notices

Dawnnamira Nerwen
July 7th,2004, 07:52 PM
That would be fun. lol

Sorry for such a short post...but I couldn't really think of anything else. :(

Melathwen
July 7th,2004, 09:00 PM
That's Ok. I'd like to have a little fun with the King. Play some mind games. Unsettle him. Which I suppose an elf would be good at. :) He deserves it.

Well, it's up to Wil for his reaction.

Wilwarin
July 8th,2004, 07:01 AM
I'm game. He's not doing much else right now anyway. :p

Etaina
July 10th,2004, 04:50 PM

Wilwarin
July 12th,2004, 04:05 AM
Well, if Maikanarë is going to play Amandil, then it wold be nice is she ended the council.

Maikanarë, are you there? :p

Wilwarin
July 16th,2004, 06:22 AM
Well, Maikanarë hasn't posted since the 5th. I wonder if she's forgotten about us. I think I'll go ahead and post the end of the council. So, Etaina, you can post Relíre any time.
If Maika still wants to play Amandil, she can indroduce him some other way.

Saruman
July 16th,2004, 09:20 AM
I'm at a loss at when I should post lol(but I'll be away until Monday evening).

Melathwen
July 16th,2004, 03:46 PM
Wil, where are Silmarin and Arameldo? They seem to have been left behind. What if I post her first 'lesson' soon? That could be an interesting experience, for both of them :)

Wilwarin
July 17th,2004, 04:30 AM
I don't know where Silmarin is, but Arameldo is down at the docks visiting his father and sister. I know, I'll post him going home, then Silmarin can come and they have the lesson. How does that sound?

Wilwarin
July 17th,2004, 05:56 AM
OK Mel, you're up. Just remember that she calls him Aram. ;)

Saruman: Sauron is the Deciever. You can post him giving the king ideas, persuading him to do things that Sauron wants done. Sauron still has to tell him to build the Great Armament. And of course, they're going to be giving human sacrifices in the new temple. That would have to be Sauron's idea too. So any time you like you can post. I don't think Sauron is held prisoner in the palac. He can wander freely around the city. I mean, he is in his fair form after all. It's not like he's going to scare the living daylights out of people if they see him lol Perhaps he can meet the king in the temple? That's where Pharazôn is now.

Melathwen
July 17th,2004, 12:53 PM
OK, I posted the beginning, Wil. Now it's your turn :)

Wilwarin
July 19th,2004, 09:05 PM
OK, now that everyone's little encounters are overwith, I say we skip ahead a few days, just to keep this ball rolling. Nine years have to pass eventually, after all.

We need to have the opening of the temple, but before that can happen Isildur needs to steal a fruit from the White Tree. I think there should be another council first though, in which he gets the idea to take the fruit. I wish I knew if Amandil actually has a player or not. And Elendil too. We really need these guys!

Melathwen
July 19th,2004, 09:23 PM
I think Mel is still with Miriel, actually. Dawn?

Well, I wouldn't mind playing Elendil, if no one else is found. He doesn't have a whole lot to do apart from make ready the ships his father orders, does he? I could do that, I think :)

Perhaps you better pm Maikanare, remind them of Amandil, Wil.

Wilwarin
July 19th,2004, 09:25 PM
Yeah, maybe I'll do that.

Dawnnamira Nerwen
July 19th,2004, 09:44 PM
That's correct...Mel and Miriel are still having tea... :p

Melathwen
July 19th,2004, 09:48 PM
I also believe it was your turn to post, Dawn... :)

Dawnnamira Nerwen
July 19th,2004, 09:59 PM
I thought I did...

But, I'll check and see, and post later.

Melathwen
July 19th,2004, 10:39 PM
Or maybe I was wrong... I'll check too, but I was getting kinda stuck with what was supposed to happen now.

Dawnnamira Nerwen
July 20th,2004, 01:06 AM
Well...we'll just skip the rest of it, and the meeting, 'cause Wil seems to be pushing ahead. ;)

Melathwen
July 20th,2004, 04:05 PM
All right then. If Amandil's still here, I suggested that he discover Mel's secret, I think that would be intersting. So what if she goes back to Romenna now? Perhaps Miriel could send her to find out the results of the council?

Dawnnamira Nerwen
July 20th,2004, 04:11 PM
Perhaps...Do what you want too, I'm a little too tired to think about it right now... lol

Wilwarin
July 21st,2004, 05:39 AM
Well, since we can't do this thing day-by-day for the whole RP (Since it takes place over nine years and that would take forever!) I think it is OK if we leave some tings unfinished or implied, just to show that the characters have lives and actually do things. I know that right now we're just basically introducing our characters and getting to know them better. But some time soon we need to move the plot along.
Anyway, I feel like I'm rambling now. Do what you guys want and just let us know when we can advance to a few days later. Right now I don't think any of my characters can do much else.

Eomund
July 21st,2004, 08:08 AM
can i be Elendil????????

Melathwen
July 21st,2004, 02:03 PM
Well, if Dawn's all right with where Mel and Miriel are, then I'm good to advance a bit. Perhaps Isildur should steal the fruit soon, that would move things on, Wil?

Wilwarin
July 21st,2004, 07:27 PM
Right, that's what I thought too. But there needs to be another council first. So I'll go ahead and PM Maikanare and see what's up with Amandil.

Wilwarin
July 23rd,2004, 06:49 PM
Well, Maikanarë hasn't responded to my PM. I checked her last post time and it was July 5th. Either she's not had access to a computer, or she's forgotten all about WotR. Either way, I wonder if we should wait for her any more? I'd kind of like to get this story moving. What do you guys think we should do? Should we get someone else to play Amandil? I cold do it, b ut I'd ratheer it ws someone else, since I'm already playing so many characters in this one.

Melathwen
July 23rd,2004, 10:43 PM
Do you know anyone else who would consider it? Perhaps you could pm them. I think we should give Maikanare a little more time, but not much, since it's almost been three weeks and that's longer than most people spend on vacation. And what about the offer of Elendil? Did that ever expand into something useable?

Just to let you know, I am leaving on wednesday and won't be back for a week, and I'm not sure how much time I will have from now until then, with packing and stuff. I will try to come one the night before I leave, but I can't promise anything. There is no chance I will be able to come on while I'm away, I think, so, could you look after my characters for me? I think Wil could look after Silmarin, and Dawn will be good for Mel, but if you want to do it differently, I don't mind. I wish I were able to get on, but I doubt it.

Dawnnamira Nerwen
July 23rd,2004, 11:35 PM
You want me to cover for Mel while you're gone, right?

Yeah, I can do that... :) Since most of the time Mel and Miriel will probably be together...

Wilwarin
July 24th,2004, 12:14 AM
No problem Mel.

I may know a couple people I can PM about Amandil, but I'm not sure they would want to. If ANY of you know someone who woud like to do it, PLEASE PM them soon!

Melathwen
July 25th,2004, 10:27 PM
I'm afraid I don't...

and yea, Dawn, I thought they would be, so it makes sense if you take her! Thanks. :) I will also be gone for another two weeks two days after I return, so I don't know if I'll be able to come on them either, though I will try.

Dawnnamira Nerwen
July 26th,2004, 05:15 AM
Actually...I'll be gone all this week. (I've kind of been surprised) and won't be back until the 31st...Hope I'm not needed very much. :)

Melathwen
July 26th,2004, 03:59 PM
Well then, I don't suppose Miriel or Mel will do much until we're back. But I'll be gone for another two weeks soon after, so they might do more then.

Dawnnamira Nerwen
July 30th,2004, 08:12 PM
I'm back. ;)

*runs off to the RPG to see if anything has happened*

Wilwarin
July 31st,2004, 04:57 AM
No, nothing much Dawn. We're waiting for someone to play Amandil and Elendil. I've PM'd some people, but they haven't answered back yet.

Wilwarin
August 4th,2004, 11:32 PM
Well, I'm all out of ideas. Everyone I've asked says they're too busy to play another character, or else they just don't want to RP. I suppose Amandil can remain a free character until someone wants to own him. I can post the begining of the next council. But somethng else should happen first, since we just had a council. Mel, maybe Arameldo and Silmarin can have another lesson. Let me know if any of you have any ideas at all. I don't want this RP to die!

Dawnnamira Nerwen
August 5th,2004, 03:56 AM
I would do something (RPG-wise) but my character doesn't really have anything to do...

Melathwen
August 5th,2004, 10:35 AM
Well, sure, we can hav another lesson, but it will need to be before sat, since im going then. I think that would be fun. Maybe Sil can try waving a sword around :) ;)

Dawn, where are Miriel and Mel? Aren't they still together? If they are, we could continue that. I really want someone to find out she's an elf, I think that would be fun ;), but obviously not the King. That would be disastrous. I don't know whether Miriel wants to find out or someone else, I don't mind, but perhaps, if Miriel and Mel are not together, they could meet again. I mean, they are friends, after all, they would talk a lot and stuff :)

Dawnnamira Nerwen
August 5th,2004, 03:32 PM
Well...last time I posted they still were...and not much time (RPG-wise) has passed since then.

How would we go about such an action as revealing her bloodline?

Wilwarin
August 5th,2004, 07:39 PM
OK, Mel, I'll go ahead and post Aram, then you can follow along. I'm just going to make it the next day in RP, the next evening actually. You guys can go ahead and keep posting your conversation if you like, I'm sure the time changing won't really matter in this case, unless you would like to show that a day has gone by for your characters as well. It's up to you guys.

Melathwen
August 5th,2004, 10:51 PM
Im not really sure, you would probably have to see her ears, which she keeps hidden with her hair. Some way will have to be thought of for her hair to move, so that her ears are visible. Any ideas?

Dawnnamira Nerwen
August 6th,2004, 02:33 AM
Perhaps a servant enters the room and calls for Mel's attention, causing her to turn her head and thus (inadvertantly) reveal her ears...

Melathwen
August 6th,2004, 06:55 AM
Perhaps. That could work, if the servant didn't see and Miriel waited until the servant had gone to say anything. Cos if the servant saw, the news would be all over the Palace in a few hours, which would be disaster for Mel. So if we could do it without the servant finding out, it could work :)

Wilwarin
August 6th,2004, 07:10 AM
Hey Mel, you can go ahead and post for Silmarin any time. ;)

Melathwen
August 6th,2004, 10:19 AM
Done. Your turn now :)

Dawnnamira Nerwen
August 6th,2004, 07:34 PM
Well yeah...I was planning on waiting until the servant left. :p

Melathwen
August 6th,2004, 09:10 PM
Good. Well, that will be nice... when I get back from my holiday! :) lol

Dawnnamira Nerwen
August 6th,2004, 11:47 PM
I can wait...I'm kind of enjoying not having much to do in this RPG. ;)

Melathwen
August 21st,2004, 04:56 PM
I'm back!!! So glad to be home. Anyway.

Wil, I loved you last post, and so here's and answer to it! I hope you like it :) lol

Wilwarin
August 22nd,2004, 05:41 AM
Yay! She's back! I'm glad you liked my post, and liked yours too. Your turn again! :)

Melathwen
August 22nd,2004, 11:49 AM
Nope, Wil, yours! This is getting interesting, and it's so sweet to see them interact! lol :) lol

Is Dawn around? I though we were going to have Miriel discover Mel, but if she's not here...

Dawnnamira Nerwen
August 23rd,2004, 04:55 PM
I'm here...just been kind of busy.

I'll try to formulate a post sometime this week.

Melathwen
August 23rd,2004, 05:18 PM
With Miriel finding out Mel's secret? Ok, I think we had decided on what would happen, so write away! Can't wait... ;)

Dawnnamira Nerwen
August 23rd,2004, 05:24 PM
Yeah...with Miriel discovering Mel.

Melathwen
August 24th,2004, 11:03 PM
Wil, now we're in the right OOC, it's your turn, again. This meeting needs to close soon, so I think either you should do that in the next post, or I'll do it in the one after that. It's getting a bit long :). lol

Wilwarin
August 24th,2004, 11:05 PM
OK. :p Sorry about that. *Blushes again* *Feeling quite stupid*

Melathwen
August 24th,2004, 11:06 PM
Don't worry about it. It's the kind of thing I'd do if I was distracted. Well, it is your turn again. :)

Dawnnamira Nerwen
August 25th,2004, 12:59 AM
It's quite understandable Wil. ;) I've nearly done it myself. lol

Anyways, just wanted to tell you that I won't be able to post until next week. I've got to go to a funeral.

Melathwen
August 25th,2004, 01:15 PM
Ok, well, Wil and I will have time to work with Sil and Aram, so by the time you get back we should be ready to go with Miriel and Mel.

I hope the funeral goes well. As well as something like that can, anyway

Sorry, but I have to say I blame it on you! lol

I couldn't write any more until I have names for her family, amd I asked you for them, but you haven't replied yet. I'm waiting... :p

And besides, even I don't know what will happen. So pfbbt to you too.

((Ideas welcome))

It might be a while longer than I expected. My stupid computer went and killed the post. And I really liked it. And I can't remember what I'd written. Stupid, stupid computer. Well, actually I think it was me, but it's not my fault my stupid computer has shortkeys that I don't know or want.

Wilwarin

Alright, Mel, you can post now ;)

Melathwen
September 9th,2004, 09:38 PM
Ok, gimme a tick, I know I have it saved somewhere...

*runs off to find it...*

All right, I know it's huge, but I didn't want to break it again  anyway, there you go, and I hope you like it. I'm finished with her for now, so if you want to start the next day, go right ahead :)

Wilwarin
September 9th,2004, 11:41 PM
Oh I like it!. It's not too long. Long posts are good ;)

September 18th,2004, 07:06 AM
OK guys, as of tomorrow morning I will be gone for a whole week or more. Moving house and home I am. I can't WAIT to get back!
Don't do too much without me. Of course, you can't really, since I play more than half the characters in this RP anyway! lol

Wilwarin
October 5th,2004, 01:19 AM
Um...yeah, so. Is anyone going to post? I would hate to see this RP die so young.

Melathwen
October 5th,2004, 04:22 PM
So would I! But I have no idea what to post. Wasn't Sil going to go outside with Tam and meet Aram? And then, Dawn's supposed to be with Mel, and find out she's an elf... but she hasn't posted in ages :(

I'm not getting thread updates, so it's kind of hard for me to remember to get on WoTR.

This weekend we're painting my room, so I'm going to be pretty busy. I'm sorry that I haven't posted yet, but it's hovering on the edge of my mind and I've got most of the post worked out...

Wilwarin
October 6th,2004, 03:31 AM
Yeah, I haven't been getting thread updates either (glad to know I'm not the only one)

Mel, any time you want you can post Sil noticing Aram near her house. Then I'll follow your lead. I posted last, so I'm just waiting for someone else to post. ;)

Wilwarin
October 12th,2004, 01:50 AM
So Mel, were you going to post that or what?

Still thinking, sorry . I will try to post tonight, Wil, I'm sorry, I know I'm taking a long time.

Hey there! Um...did you change your name?

And, Mel. WHERE ARE YOU? There, I've shouted, now I will stop. Just wondering where you went....well, actually, I know where you went, since I see you posting in other RPs all the time. But just wondering if this RP is still interesting enough...*sniffs* it's starting to look like it's not.

Dawnnamira Nerwen

I'm sorry Wil...I've been kind of busy lately and although this RPG has been hovering at the back of my mind I still haven't formulated a post. :(

Amaryliss
November 25th,2004, 08:31 PM
yup certainly have :-) - so what's happening in Rp then? Relire is looking for Isildur i believe?

Wilwarin
November 26th,2004, 08:15 AM
Actually, if I can remember right (which, don't be surprised if I can't, since it's been so long) Isildur, Anarion, Elendil and Amandil (and I'm sure all their aids) plus Relire, are all riding to Romenos to see the new temple. Since Amandil is friends with the king. I think Isildur was looking for Relire...Or maybe he just looked back at her...something like that. I'm too lazy to go check right now though.... :p

In any event, they're riding to the captial city.

January 1st,2005, 08:25 PM
I'm so sorry Mela! I didn't even realize you had posted, and all this time I thought I was waiting for you *blush*

I would have answered your PM, but it said you are not allowed to recive PMs or something like that. Just thought you'd like to know.

Anyway, now, since I see that indeed you have posted, then I will try to write a reply very soon, might not be today, but it will be soon, trust me. I really don't want to see this RP die.

January 3rd,2005, 11:10 AM
All I did was change my email address! Then I couldn't verify it, because my internet decided to break again :( But it's all working now :) So I should be able to receive them again. I hope.

Don't worry, Wil, as long as you post now  I wondered whether it wasn't me to post, when I saw no updates.

I don't want to see it die, either. I'm back to school tomorrow, though, so I'll just be posting in the evenings again. :( Stupid school :(

Could someone resum what's happened and what we want to happen soon? I've been so busy lately learning stupid facts in school I can't remember that much about this RpG.

Could someone also tell me how the Queen is fit into the future plot?

Thank you.

Gee, this thread is really going slow. And why am I not getting email notifications from some threads, I'd like to know!

Anyway. I'm starting to forget what's happened and where we are in the RP too. But I do know that the queen is an informant to the Faithful. She tells them what the king is planning to do, and so the Faithful aare able to escape the island before it sinks. But the queen doesn't, she goes down with the island.

Uh, I'll have to review the thread a bit. So, I'll get back to you on what needs to happen next...
