View Full Version : Sleeping Habits
Sindarin
August 25th,2002, 04:41 PM
I was lying awake in bed earlier this morning and wondered if any of my fellow WarRingers had any unusual sleeping habits?
I for one can only sleep on the left side of my bed, and only while on the right side of my body. :snooze:
I've tried sleeping the opposite way, yet it never seems to work.
I'm never as comfortable as I would be sleeping the other way, and I can only manage a half an hour or so of sleep before waking up and having to switch posistions.

Getting a little nosy aren't we, Sindarin? ;)
I can only sleep on the right of my bed as well, and it has to be cold in my room because I can't sleep without lots of blankets.
The weirdest thing is that once school starts, I can't get up any later than 5 a.m. :o I don't even set my alarm any more. Very strange.... especially considering I go to bed between 10 and midnight.

hmmm sleeping habits. I really don't think I sleep enough to have habits... lol
I can only fall asleep when I'm on my side, facing the wall on the left side of my bed... otherwise I won't fall asleep...
I also wake up really early on weekends once school starts, even when i go to bed as early as 2am....strangeness

August 25th,2002, 10:17 PM
sleeping habbits? To sleep not enough and not in apropriate hours (get up at 5am? I usually stay up till 5am and decide there's no real reason to go to bed....)
Gowpon
August 25th,2002, 10:57 PM
Well...I don't know...I just sleep... lol
It's TRUE!! I always fall asleep without knowing, but it also takes a long time for me to fall asleep...thinking this and that, then just simply loose my consciousness...
I know this is weird....
And sometimes I'll wake up in the middle of the night, and fall back to sleep in 5 minutes...:naughty:

you listen to music to fall asleep, you mean?
There's almost always noise when I sleep, but maybe that's because normal people are awake then

Nessa, I too have to have a lot of blankets. My bedroom is freakishly hot in the summer, and an icebox in the winter. During the winter, I have my heating blanket on full, not to mention a feather-down comforter on top. Sometimes I still get cold! I like a hot bed. . .geez, that could be taken the wrong way!:naughty:
No, the one with really strange sleeping habits is my father. He MUST have a hot-water bottle (which he fills with ice cold water) and sticks it on his feet all night. Even in the winter! In the winter before bed, he actually goes out and walks in the snow in his bare feet! Lunatic. . .

But since I live in a small two-room apt, I have to sleep in the same room with my mom...:(

Sometimes I stay up to see the sunrise, then go to bed and get up for classes at 9. That really is no fun. Sometimes I don't sleep at all. That is bad. I don't have weird sleep habits. I just prefer sleeping on whichever side has the bedside table. On it I keep my LOTR books and glass of water, ti's oh so handy! It takes me a long time to fall asleep. I rarely ever fall asleep watching tv or reading a book. I can have the tv on, but I am never too tired to fall asleep while watching a favorite movie (FOTR anyone?). Lately on the weekends when I am off work I sleep in really late as I have just moved into my sister's house and sleep in the basement (they call me Harry Potter) and have no natural sunlight to wake me up.

My room is ALWAYS hot....even in the english winters... :naughty:....no really....it is!
I have to sleep on my left side facing the wall...but i always wake up facing the other way....i move around a lot in my sleep.
I've been known to have conversations with inaminate objects in my sleep...doors for example... :elfeek: lol

I know several people who can have conversations while they sleep....and i know one guy who went to sleep under a dynometer...(which is a device that measures HP output in an engine...in this case motorbikes which are put on it and then run out thru the whole gear range at full revs) while it was being used!!!:elfeek: lol lol course he was drunk at the time lol

My room has perfect temperature all the year round (the sun shines in all day so in winter it's warmer, and in summer I always have a window I can open without sun shining in... and did I mention that it's a small room and next to it is another small room (where I am right now and where is the air-conditioner :naughty: )

I don't have any sleeping habit's, (that I no of) well unless you count going to bed till like two in the morning cos been on the WOTR site all night.
But my sis sings in her sleep ( quite loudly) which is kinda freaky( not to say annoying) :)

This is all very inresting
My bed faces the window with the bedhead towards the door.
I always start the night facing the wall, but I move around a lot in my sleep. I prefer to sleep with the covers pulled up over my head, quite often they come off my feet.
Do any of you sleep walk or have?
I did once, when I was little. The strange thing was I dreamt it as well. I dreamt that I was rolling down the stairs wrapped in my blanket and I woke up at the bottom of the stairs.

August 30th,2002, 09:38 PM
How am I supposed to know if I sleep walk? I'm asleep at the time.
sorry, one of my friends does and all my friends mumble in our sleep so if we have sleep overs it must sound like we're still talking!
anyone have any idea why I sleep with my eyes slightly open? I wonder if its so that I can see while I'm sleep walking? (I have only done this once)
I dreamt it too although I still think I was awake I remember it too vivdly. I walked into the room next to my bedroom where my parents were to ask them if they would turn off the computer. by the way I was very young at this point.

The sleeping habits of others are always quite amusing. lol
Recently I was on a bus home from soccer camp with my team, it was the middle of the night, and I was one of the only ones awake. My assistant coach was in the seat next to mine.... sleeping away quite soundly when suddenly both of his arms shot out above his head and he kind of slumped over...... he was a goaly in his more prime days and I believe he was reliving a save......

I reckon I sleep lots at the weekend.
During week I get up at about 7am and goto bed whenever Illuvatar and I have finished messing around with the site. On a busy site day I have been know to do 24 hours.....but try to minimise that. :-) My typing gets worse than usual.

Sometimes the night can be a totally hell for me. Sometimes the bed can be just to hot so in the morning i can be totally sweaty. Other night it can be to cold so if can feel a bit sick in the morning. Also it can sometimes take me hours before i find a good spot or side of the bed to sleep on.
Mostly the nights ends like this for me: When i finally got everyting under control and are about to fall asleep......its often 1 or 2 hours left before its time to wake up. And sometimes when i wake up my eyes can hurt like ****!

August 10th,2004, 05:57 PM
I have always heard that an adult person is supposed to get 8 hours of sleep every night to be healthy. I very rarely do. I can't sleep more than 8-9 hours, because then I'll get a headache, and I'd prefer not to sleep less than 2-3 hours, because then I'll get a headache as well. I'll usually get a headache if it's too hot in my room as well, and if sleep too late in the day, no matter when I went to bed. :p
I like to sleep though, especially when I dream a lot.. dreams are fun. :) Not the nightmares, but the others ones are usually quite entertaining.
I like being up early in the mornings though, and I also like being up late at night.. not a very good combination.
I don't think I've ever been sleepwalking, but I have been known to do things while sleeping that I don't remember the next day. Mostly turning the alarm off without waking up, which is annoying.. and this mostly happens when I HAVE to get up early to go someplace to write an exam(!!!).. it has happened several times! Also.. once when I was about 9 or 10 years old we were on a holiday and the whole family shared a small cabin and slept in bunkbeds. I was on top in one of the beds, and apparently (I was told this the next day) I fell out of the bed (a fall of about 2 metres or so), landed on the floor and woke my dad up, he asked me if I was ok and I apparently mumbled something back at him, then climbed up into my bed again. I still don't remember any of that.. and shouldn't I have been a little sore after a fall like that!? I wonder if maybe it was HIM who was dreaming!?
One of my brothers apparently sometimes talks in his sleep. He once shared a room with my other brother and one night he apparently dreamt of a football game, because he lay there mumbling stuff like "And **** scores!!". Cute. :)

Well most of the tv can make me sleep ANY time
My main habbit is get well tired before getting into bed... I never have problems falling asleep... now waking up is another thing... I do the alarm clock thing all the time too.. that's why when I have to wake up I place the alarm clock far away from bed, so that I have to get up to turn it off... and even THEN I do it now and then.
I dunno if I speak in my sleep, don't think so tho... I certainly don't walk around, tho I rarely sleep calm (the bettstuffs really messed up in the mornign heh)

I'm the wierdest sleeper I know...
Firstly, you know sleep is supposed to be a time of REST? By defenition, you're supposed to relax when you sleep.
Not me.
I tense right up and all my muscles are really stretched when I wake up.
Second, I grind my teeth. Another habit of being tense when I snooze, I guess.
Third, I sometimes bite the insides of my cheeks. Ditto, above.
And fourth and final, I mumble. No-one can tell what I'm saying but it sounds completely inane. My mum was sure she heard me say "The hippopotamus is on fire" once.
[EDIT] - Oh yeah, I forgot... I think I must be an elf because I sleep with my eyes open sometimes. :o

August 20th,2004, 07:44 PM
My Mom grinds her teeth when she's asleep too, so she's got a little retainer mebobber that she wears in bed to make her stop. Apparently it works very well.
Sometimes I wake up covered only by my blanket, and the sheet is on the floor, which is kind of weird...

i have had real problems sleeping recently. it's not ver good. i have not been ableto get to sleep at night and i end up passing out around 6 or 7 in the morning, after lying there for a bunch of hours. maybe it's the fault some sort of subconscious problem in my mind. all i know is that i always have a headache when i wake up. i think i'm going to have to resort to drugs soo enough ack!

I have a few habits, the main one being that I must have a blanket over me at all times, yes, even over my head. Bit of a problem during the summer- my air conditioner is ancient.
I also sleep with my eyes open, I'm not sure if it's all the time or not. I learned this when I was pretty little, when my mom told me that I had rolled out of bed at night, making a loud thump on the floor. She came in to find me sitting on the floor, eyes wide open.
Had to have freaked her out a bit. ~_^

I know how you feel, I have to have something over me, unless I'm extremly exhasted of course. I like a little light on, yes, I am still nervous about the dark, it's my brother's fault, I blame him for telling me scary things that won't leave my subconcious, that and I never know where a dang cat is going to be. As for eyes open, I dont' recall that, but I do talk in my sleep, laugh at jokes in my dreams (That end up being out loud), and once in awhile open up my eyes to sit up, point at a corner and tell my husband "it's right there." Then again, I am strange. Well that and I have booted my husband out on the floor several times with my knees, feet and elbows to the jawbone >.< Poor Shadohnkh....
