Do all the ones I recorded myself count? Or just the ones I've actually spent money on?
I only recently got a DVD player and have zero DVDs yet that I purchased. But my first two purchases will be the FOTR gift set and Metropolis (animated one).
As for videos, I tend to buy the cheapy pre-viewed tapes, if it's something I know I'll like watching over and over, or if its cheaper than RENTING.
I tend to collect old John Cusack movies and ALL the Jane Austen adaptations.
 I'll be back!

Oh I knew we had a thread for this somewhere... lol
Well I, for some odd reason, feel inspired to post up my collection.
So here goes, in no paricular order (except the order on my shelves, which tends to be by country more or less)
The Devil's Sword (Indonesia 1980s fantasy, the height of 1980s cheese.)
Phra Apai Mani (Thai fantasy, 2002, quite good for the budget.)
The Lord of Ayuthaya (made for TV Thai historical epic, well not so epic really lol 2006 I think)
The Legend of Suriyothai (long 3 hour Thai cut, Thai historical epic 2001)
Khunsuk (Thai historical epic 2003)
Bang Rajan (Thai historical epic 2000)
Kunpan (Thai historical epic, gosh I have allot of these don't I? :p 2002)
In the Name of the Tiger (Thai comic fantasy 2004, fun flick, DVD is so so quality)
Sonny Chiba Samurai collection (pretty self explanitory, but they are horrible transfers of the movies - almost unwatchable, it was in a bargain bin)
The Legend of Gingko (Korean fantasy, 2000, long, overblown, cruddy CGI.)
Legend of Evil Lake (Korean fantasy/historical/horror 2003, a very nice historical horror drama.)
Shadowless Sword (Korean wuxia [fantasy martial arts] 2005, excellent.)
The Promise (Chinese wuxia 2005, two disc special Hong Kong edition, quite strange but overall fun.)
Mulawin (Filipino fantasy, based off of TV series 2004, quite horrible.)
Exodus: Tales from the Enchanted Kingdom (Filipino fantasy based off a theme park no less! lol 2005, quite fun.)
Pathfinder aka Ofelas (Norwegian historical epic 1987. Amazing film, must watch for everyone.)
Stara basn. Kiedy slonce bylo bogiem (Polish historical epic 2003 set in early Slavic times, I'm still annoyed that the longer Polish TV release is not available with English subtitles [a running time difference of about 20 minutes], ticks me off although it's still a great movie at the theatrical runtime.)
Wiedzmin (Polish fantasy 2001, could have been great, this is in fact a 2 +1/2 hour movie edited out of 13 hours of TV show. TV show is much much better. Movie is so-so.)
1409 (Polish historical comedy 2005, think Monty Python, impluse buy in Krakow)
Yeelen (Mali/Burkino Faso historical fantasy epic on a budget, 1987. Highly interesting film. Very little has come out of Africa in this genre.)
Ariana's Quest (Canada/Czech fantasy production, absolutely horrible, bought it in Prague for the sole purprose of eviscerating it in prose.)
Beowulf & Grendel (Canadian/Icelandic adaption of epic poem. Tries for realism and makes heavy revisions to source. 2005. Still a good film worth it for costumes and scenery alone.)
Lawrence of Arabia (British historical epic 1962. Don't really need to say much, you should have seen it already. :p)
Garfield (American crap 2004, don't ask, someone gave it to me. ;))
Shadow of the Sword aka The Headsman (Austrian/British/German historical drama 2005, pretty decent.)
Robin Hood (British made-for-TV movie 1991. Very good actually. Much better than that Kevin Costner disaster from the same year.)
Spaceballs (US scifi comedy 1987, this ones needs no comments from me.)
Westender (US indie fantasy 2003, a decent micro/no budget movie. Points for trying anyway.)
Zulu (British historical epic 1964, a classic in every sense of the word.)
The Princess Bride (British/US fantasy fairytale 1987. Great film, a classic on DVD, I've watched it more times than I care to count. :))
Kingdom of Heaven (US historical epic 2004, why did they have to release the director's cut after I get my DVD? Anyways I've seen both versions, the film is flawed and laughable for it's treatment of history and religion, but it's enjoyable enough to watch with the brain turned off.)
Dragon Storm (US fantasy made-for-TV 2004, crappy but it has Gimli and dragons in it - nuff said. :p)
Dragonslayer (British fantasy epic 1981, classic and very fun to watch. From when Disney made good movies on a more regular basis.)
Sword of Xanten aka Ring of the Nibelungs (German/British/South African fantasy epic based on famous epic poems 2004, I have the 3 hour version and it's really the only one to watch, the movie is pretty good with the long version, not so great I hear on the shorter US released version.)
King Arthur (US historical epic 2004, I like it, not many other people did. ;))
Blood of Beasts aka Beauty and the Beast (South African/British fantasy/historical drama made-for-tv 2003. Junk, classic story with crappy looking vikings and bad acting, I bought it soley to review.)
The Sword of Lancelot (British fantasy/historical epic 1963, decent, nice battles.)
Excalibur (British fantasy epic 1981, good but not great.)
The Magic Sword (US fantasy 1962, fun, to bad I have a bargain DVD with a bad print of the film.)
King Arthur, the Young Warlord (British made-for-tv historical drama 1975, tries to tell true story of Arthur on a budget, watchable rather fun.)
Nochnoy Dozor aka Night Watch (Russian fantasy/horror epic 2004, fantastic film even if it's not faithful to the book. I have the Russian DVD, the American re-edit of the film by 20th Century Fox is total junk and ruins the film.)
Dnevnoy Dozor (Russian fantasy/horror 2006, sequel to above and even better. It has magic yo-yos..... ;))
Volkodav iz roda serykh psov aka The Wolfhound (Russian fantasy epic 2006/07 [released over New Year's], best of post-LotR fantasy films. A personal favorite of mine. Excellent film one of the best I've seen for many a year.)
Molodoy Volkodav (Russian fantasy TV-series 2007, spin off of above, lower budget shows in costuming and sets but still fun. Working on getting it subtitled so the whole world can enjoy. :p)
The Lord of the Rings Extended Editions (all 3) (US/New Zealand fantasy 2001-2003. Do I really need to say anything? lol)
I have more in boxes elsewhere and backed up to a couple of HDs for easy access but I'm to lazy to list 'em all right now. :p There's some more classic 60s stuff like the Sinbad films and the Conan films as well as more international goodies.
I'm also waiting for Kull the Conqueror to show up in the mail anyday now (I get cranky without a 1980s fantasy fix every week or so lol) and also The Viking Sagas from 1994, which is a small Icelandic/US production that is supposed to be pretty good. It's only 83 minutes long so it might have been intended as a TV series and was cut for video release. Should be interesting.
Anyways that's all from me I think. Wouldn't mind seeing this thread come back to life since we have so many new users since it was last posted in. :)

Iian, you should do what I did. Find someone to take your regular version, then buy the Directors. Although I still haven't watched it, I know it's better then the theatrical.
My DVD collection is now well over 500, but I still have about 15 videos to replace.

No, it isn't, which is a pity because I really thought they could have been truer to the book. Having Mr. Bingley enter Jane's room when she was sick astonished me. And its not like he was announced. He just stepped right in like that. *shakes head* Those type of things were huge deviances for me.

Omigosh! How could I forget Master and Commander?!! :o :o I love that movie, it's awesome! Phantom was good, though I highly recommend the book instead of the musical or movie. Princess Bride's good too, but I didn't like Kingdom of Heaven, I thought it was boring and my fav character died after 20 min into the movie! :( Haven't seen Troy, but King Arthur was good, so was Last Samurai. :)
Elfdaughter
June 18th,2007, 09:43 AM
Yay, another browncoat! *Huggles LG*
Phantom was excellent, though it depends which book you're talking about. L'Phantom d'la Opera by Leroux is NOT a good book. It's a good story, but really badly written. However, there's an excellent version of the book by Susan Kay, which basically takes Leroux's book and makes it into a readable story!
KOH was OK - bit of fun, really.
PB is the BEST.

What made me laugh was the description in the extras on the DVD about being able to tell which country you're in when you're watching the stageplay by the speed in which the chandelier falls! lol! I want to go to Australia to watch it - it pelts down there, apparantly! It's pathetically slow in the London one. (My aunt's seen it.)
Lady Galadriel
June 18th,2007, 10:04 PM
lol I think I must have missed watching that part of the extras. I watched all the cast interviews and the interviews with Webber and the director because I was so interested in seeing what they had to say on Michael Crawford. The guy that plays Raoul simply opens his mouth and a lovely melody comes out. He's a good singer. It was nice to see it bhs singing so easily by the piano practicing.
Oh, I can imagine the chandelier falling with decorum in England. roflmao

yes the UK has all these silly safety regulations. I thought New York was supposed to be pretty impressive when the chandelier falls .
My DVD collection holds a few odd films starring David Wenham. Dust and A Little Bit of Soul.

Eowyn, which Emma do you have?
Also, I LOVED Memoirs of a Geisha.
Is Hornblower very good? I've always been tempted to buy it. That's with Ioan, right?
If the Chandelier fell in an extravagant way here, it must not have made an impression on me. lol I can't remember that it did. That was probably 7 years ago. Maybe I go see it again because I really love the music.

Oh yeah, forgot MoaG. That's one I just bought a few days ago. Love it!
LG - Hornblower is brilliant. I want the DVDs, actually...lol Yeah, it's with luscious Ioan.... ;)
On a totally unrelated note....LG, I've just seen your location.....TUNA??

What do you like about Hornblower, ED, besides Ioan? Lol
Yeah, Tuna. Why? If memory serves me well, (and I hope it does), its supposed to be in or near the city of the Noldor in Valinor. But I wrote that location ages ago
or so it feels like. I still adore Finrod too.

Well, I come from a navy upbringing, so there's all that knowledge that I already have of life on board ship that just makes it a little more real to me.
Heh...sorry, it's just I read 'Tuna' and the first thing that came to mind was tuna as in tuna fish. A hill of tuna fish.... I think I need food....lol
