Changes to War of the Ring

Hi Folks,

As posted on the main page we are rolling out some new features and a totally new system for publishing the site.

Any suggestions for new sections, comments on the changes or improvements you think we should make while doing this can be posted here.

We really want to know what you want.

Looks great so far! :thumbs: Heres an idea, maybe having a weekly poll for ideas, thoughts, etc or even things from the movie or is it a good idea to make the Hobbit Movie. Just a thought.

Well, thanks Luthien.

We are also going to add a new email system for mail coming into War of the Ring. It is a sort of helpdesk. It will be resident on Monsters and Critics, but look like War of the Ring. License issues stop us putting it over.

But it will let us deal with that sort of mail in a timely fashion. Up until now we have had trouble dealing with the volume of mail. So definetly one we will get going with.

With The Hobbit, a special page will be up shortly with just Hobbit Movie related articles and news. Same with Narnia and even Phillip Pullman's HIs Dark Materials, which New Line is making into a series of films.

In addition actual separate sites for some of these will be appearing. This is a shoot off from Monsters and Critics. We will be looking for people to work on them adding content etc where they are interested in those topics too.

So we will have one place on WOTR for news on The Hobbit and Narnia as well as sort of mini sites that can handle more fan related content for those particluar books and films.

We did think of doing it all within wotr but the problem is the site is so big and has so many older pages that conversion is a long term project. We also have the Annals project that is about to get its front end web site as well. So its all go for the whole network I guess!

But new areas and changes to the areas converted are just the ticket and we will do everything that gets requested within reason :-)

Thanks ImDaMom, we are slightly restricted on what we can pull off because wotr is so big and was never built with templates or any other sort of central system. But, where we can, we will be bringing it into line and hopefully making a better place to visit.

Already it lets us post more detailed news in an easier to read format. Though old Illu has reduced the text size already I see ;-)

I hope to sort a new search this week and get the talkback and poll up and running. Then convert the book reviews. Also on M&C we are recieving a lot of books for review, so where related (Fantasy or Tolkien) we will cross-publish.

The other sites you might have seen us mention are a lot easier as they are new and use M&C as a complete basis.

The only change I want to make... I wish there was a horse-themed smiley. You know, maybe a smiley knight on a horse.. or a little horse running! :love: :loveyou:

Not that I'm not grateful for the amount of smilies that you have (for there are many and I think the Fellowship smilies rock my world...) but that's the only thing I think needs to be changed!!
