View Full Version : Question about How Long WOTR Will Last

Does anyone here know how long these forums will last? What I mean is, after The EE of ROTK comes out, and the Hobbit is done (hopefully), and everything that has to do with the movies is over with, will the forums still be open? Probably a dumb question, but I was just curious if this site would keep going. I hope so, because I really like it. :)

While these forums were obviously made with both the books and movies in mind, I very much doubt they'll end after the EE comes out ;) I think they'll last as long as the bills are paid and people are here (at least, I hope so!)

Well.....we hope for a long long longgggggggg time! :p

But really though...just to ease your mind....we have no plans to close these forums whatsoever. In fact...we are taking serious steps to ensure the sustainabilty of not only the forums, but the entire site overall.

See...while we do have quite a few folks registered her in the community, in regards to traffic, page hits, etc., the forums actually only play a small part in regards to our monthly totals. The primary site driver is the news on the main page of course, followed by the Photo Gallery, Photo Forum, Art Gallery, Downloads, etc.

Your question is exactly why we designed WotR as we did. Both my partner (Fatty) and I, worked on a site that was "forum centric" and we wanted something different to this place. See...some sites are really just for news, others for photos, others for art, and of course there's a tons of sites out there that are just a forum and that's it. We wanted to create a site that was well rounded in all these areas, a sort of "one-stop-shop" if you like. I would like to think that as the 3rd (and sometimes 2nd) most popular Lord of the Rings site in the world, that maybe...just maybe we're doing just that. And don't you worry....we've got tons more stuff lined up as well!! lol

Now...with all this, and some of the most excellent and admirable folks I've come to know here within the community.....somehow.....I just don't see me going anywhere!

Thanks! That's very reassuring. :) What would I do without WOTR? I'd probably finally be sent to an assylum, seeing that I wouldn't be able to spend so much time with Lord of the Rings sites.... lol

Wow, Pil, I was just looking at your profile....you HAVE been here forever. lol
Yeah, I think after the movies start to fade off (although it will never completely fade off...that's the truth), less people will come, and it will just be us...we'll be considered the "old crew" roflmao I plan on staying here so long as it exists.

Yeah, how DO you get those gold/silver rings? They're so cool.

Tar-Vanimelde
October 21st,2004, 01:41 AM
you PAY muahahahahahah ;) it's the sign that the person has subscribed (two levels, gold and silver) .....gold comes with an email account and stuff, but both give you a ring, a custom av and title, photo forum benefits, competitions, and other stuff.....mainly, though, it's helping out the site ;) look here for subscription details (http://warofthering.net/articles/subscriptions.php) ;)

Oh, I wish I weren't broke, so I could subscribe...I also wish that school wasn't so cruel. It's cutting way into my LotR/Forum visiting time. I miss being able to really talk with everyone...

This site will rule forever! Or at least as long as the internet exists.

I hope War of the Ring will last a loooooong time yet.
I, for one, have no intention of going anywhere else.. don't believe I have EVER had as much fun as I have here...(or been able to act so silly at times) :p and I love it!! ;) After I had instructions in how to post, use smilies,... etc.!! lol Have made many new friends here and hope to get acquainted with lots more people...In fact..we're beginning to make this a "family affair"!! lol

and all the tomorrows after that. That's how long WotR will be here! I'm doggoned determined that it shall be so. Joining WotR quite literally changed my life - and that for the better. We really are a family here and that's definitely worth hanging on to. And we owe so much to Illu and Fatty! notworthy I'm sad that I can't hang out more with you guys in the forums, 'cuz it's such a fun place to be.

OK ... I can't stand it ... GROUP HUG ... aaah ... ehh ...

*recovers self* War of the Ring truly, truly rocks. And will definitely go the distance!

LOL,

Well we intend WotR to be online as long as people visit it. It is humbling to see so many people enjoying something that we put together for our own entertainment really.

I remember sitting in my kitchen in my old flat trying to learn a bit of html and together with Illu working out how to setup our new server. I also remember checking off the building site early so I could get home and update the news before 4pm gmt :-)

Since then dozens of people have helped build the site and thousands have helped great the community.

I do not get a chance to spend much time here anymore, but I do look in and Illu keeps me updated on what is going on. In fact the other night I was saying to my wife how amazing the community is. Closing in on 500,000 posts covering every topic you can imagine. Would make an interesting anthropological study I am sure :-)

Anyway, we are pursuing other projects as you know. However, I for one will never forget what started it all and we will always ensure WotR is online. In fact the very reason for some of these is to ensure a future for WotR, its community and the larger community we host.

From our cold dead hands...as someone a little less liberal than me once said.

Regards

James aka Fatty

Sorry this is a bit late. I do hope that WOTR last for a looong time.
It's so sad that some of the sites have already shut down because they kind of keep the legacy of Lord of the Rings going even though the movies are over and done with. ( and let's keep WOTR going! ) I also want to give a big thanks to Illu and Fatty for making such a wonderful site! You guys Rock! notworthy (And so do all the members! :rose: )

I love WOTR and think its great, but even though we have tons of members I'v noticed that there arn't very many new posts/threads.

I know that most people want their threads to last a long time, but I think that more threads need to be made by everyone even if they only last a few days. I'm not very good with just posting away. It takes me awhile to find a good thread and think of what I want to add.

Wish I had found this site when the movies had just begun to come out I might have had a chance, but now I don't think I'll ever get my own avatar.

So anyway... just my thoughts on it.

lol - never say never, Bria. You may yet become MOTM - then you get your own avatar. Or, of course, you could subscribe. :p You haven't been here all that long - give it a chance.

Bria, whether you do get your own avatar or not, I sure LOVE the one you have now. I don't think I have seen it before...it sure is cool! And I feel the same way you do, I also wish I had been here when the first movie came out. It must have been so much fun feeling the newness, the excitement that they were done well and that anticipation everyone felt waiting for the next movie! I bet it made some wonderful memories for those who were here. ;)
