Hey guys! :) What do you Scandinavians say about a nice lil' gathering for us WotR-ers here in Scandinavia somewhere? We can meet and have a great time, maybe watch all the three extended editions? :) Does anyone have an idea for a place to be? :)

EDIT: Ooops, I posted it in the wrong forum! Does any nice Mod want to move it to the Gathering forum? Thanks!

I'll give Nessa a hint, she's online!

And yes I would be interested...we're kinda far apart tho. I tried to make it happen when I was in Sweden this summer but none could come. But I'm optimistic, so lets try again!

December 5th,2004, 04:17 PM
Oooh, great! What do you guys say about a gathering at the next Sci-Fi, Filma and Game convention (the ones that are in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö)? I've met both Billy Boyd and John R-D at those conventions, so why not?

Cuiel Rilwen
December 5th,2004, 04:58 PM

Isáwien
December 5th,2004, 05:02 PM
I agree with Cuiel, that would be awesome!
I only live 40 min outside Stockholm so I'm free to go anytime :)

Luvara
December 12th,2004, 08:09 PM
Well, the one in Stockholm was in October, but there'll be one in Gothenburg and one in Malmö too (hopefully). We'll have to keep an eye at this site: Propworld (http://www.propworld.nu/)

Cuiel Rilwen
December 12th,2004, 10:23 PM
Oh ok. I looked at that site...couldn't find a place to subscribe to news...but if you go there every once in a while I guess you'll be bringing us the word? It would be so much fun to meet you guys. I do have a pretty stuffed winter and spring ahead but I won't give any lame excuses not to go if its truly possible for me to do it. :)

Luvara
December 19th,2004, 08:26 PM
Hey! There'll be a convention in Gothenburg in March, but they haven't announced the guests yet.... what do you say? check out www.propworld.nu for more news! :)

Oh dang it...I think that's the dates for the fair in Ålesund. :( *pulls hair out* Oh I hope they at least collide in a good manner...such as if I would be able to go to Gothenburg straight after the fair is done! Would be a shorter distance than from home! I prob won't be getting the exact dates until mid january. Lets keep eachother posted!

I would love it if we could get together us Scandinavians. I must however say that I am a little short on cash at the moment...and I am busy like heck with school, which explains why no one has seen me in a while..also I have been out seeing the world. ;) When will those conventions be?

Naru`vatar
January 8th,2005, 12:38 AM
The current convention will be in Gotenburg at the Swedish Convetion Centre. (My school is just across the street so i can get there within seconds great huh?) And the date is 12-13 march. They have yet to reveal the guests who will be there but il keep an eye on it. Id love to meet you guys.
See you there Luvara  Cant really belive this is happening. I loved the convetion 2004 and they say this one is gonna be bigger! :whoohoo:

Cuiel Rilwen
January 8th,2005, 10:03 PM

Cuiel Rilwen
January 12th,2005, 09:43 AM
I'm sorry to say the convention crashes totally with the furniture fair. :( Only chance is if we deside not to go, which I doubt will happen.

Luvara
January 13th,2005, 09:02 PM
Oooh, oooh, more Scandinavians! lol Naru, I'll see you there! ;) And I really hope all of you can come!

Cuiel Rilwen
January 20th,2005, 07:13 AM
Arrrrghhhh! I GOTTA work some more on making it happen! I learned yesterday that I won't be going to that fair anyways, so that makes the dates less complicated...now for finding a way to get there! Where are you guys staying while there?

Luvara
January 20th,2005, 11:36 PM
Well, both Naru and I live in Gothenburg, so we'll be staying in our houses I guess! hehe ;) But I'm sure you can find a nice and cheap hotel not too far from the place where it's going to be held!

Cuiel Rilwen
January 21st,2005, 07:09 AM
Ofcourse you are I forgot! lol Do you suppose one has to be early to order tickets for the event?

Naru`vatar
January 21st,2005, 02:09 PM
I dont think you need to order any tickets. You just pay and they will let you in. I belive it worked that way the last time. How about Gothia Towers? Its next to the convention lol. Im just kidding. Im afraid its a bit expensive. Im sure Luv and I can help if you dont find anything.

Luvara
January 21st,2005, 03:04 PM
Yeah, you pay when you get there so you don't have to order them! :) Great, isn't it? And just like Naru said, I think Gothia Towers can be a wee bit expensive ;) hehehe

Cuiel Rilwen
January 21st,2005, 05:03 PM
I've only been in Gothenburg once and we were camping, so I know zit about where to stay! Now I'm gonna look into plaintickets this weekend so if I find it's affordable and I can have a few days off work I might be able to make it. I'll get back to the housing issue after that! :)

May 10th,2005, 05:49 PM
Woah! So you did go. I'm jellous!! But glad that you had a good time at least. :)

And yep, long time no see. I'm doing fine, though I'm exteremly busy with Uni at the moment. What about you?

And yeah... what's with the mouse?

Luvara
May 10th,2005, 07:42 PM
The mouse? Well... lol We gave it to him as a gift, and he wanted us to take a pic with him and the mouse. First he thought he had to give it back to us again, but we convinced him that it was a gift so he said that he'd put it in one of his cars :P So sweet! *sighs* And he though we were Orlandofans just because we're still in school
- So you're fans of Orlando then?
- Nah...
- But you will see his new movie, right?
- Don't think so!
- Not? Wow!
(Another actress next to him) - But will you see John's new movie?
- Yeah, of course we will! :P
- See John, they love you ;)

It was so sweet! lol He looked really shocked when he realized that we didn't love Orli :P

Cuiel Rilwen
May 10th,2005, 09:06 PM
What!!! You don't love Orli!? You can love both ya know! lol John sounds really sweet, I've read that kind of comment about him earlier too!

I've been good Polly tho have some cold sneaking up on me this evening...can't seem to get warm. Hope it passes fast, we got national celebration day comming up on the 17th! Gotta fix the sleeves of my gown by then...them long Arwen sleeves are totally unmanagable!

Polly Sandybanks
May 11th,2005, 01:08 PM
lol Yeah, John sounds really sweet. I wish I could have met him too.

I hope you'll get well in time for May 17th, Cuiel! How will you celebrate it?
This year our national day has become a national holiday, it wasn't before. But starting this year it's a "red day", meaning everybody's off work/school. So I'm looking forward to seeing if anything special will happen. I've never really noticed that day at all, there are never any celebrations or anything. At school, when I was little, we used to sing the national anthem, but that was about it. But this year might be different. It's on June 6th... pretty soon.

Cuiel Rilwen
May 11th,2005, 02:36 PM
Sounds like you could have a national holiday tradition in the making there Polly! Hope everyone wants to celebrate the day and makes the most of it...it can become such a festive occation! entdraught

The 17th of May is our national liberation day, since 1905 when we were detatched from you guys and got our own king! lol The whole nation is celebrating, marching in the streets, there are bands playing, people eat out. And folks wear their traditional festive gowns and suits which are based on old patterns and clothes...lots of silver and flags and ribbons! Go here (http://www.warofthering.net/photoforum/showphoto.php?photo=11189) to take a look!

This thread doesnt use for a long time, but I just want to tell that I WANT TO EAT SEMLA (swedish word), no idea if other countries like Norway, Finland,Denmark and Iceland have it??? Hmmm.... No idea...
Semla is February's month to eat everywhere in Sweden.... Ohh...
I did check internet how to make semla but I am not sure if here in Usa have "mandelmassa"... Dunno english for it mecry mecry

Polly Sandybanks
March 5th,2006, 11:42 PM
I wouldn't mind a semla either right now. :chef:
Mandel in english is almond, so I guess mandelmassa would be something like that. As far as I know mandelmassa is almonds and sugar sort of smashed and mixed together. Marzipan is almost the same thing as well and could probably work. You can probably find stuff like that at IKEA if not in other places. :)

A semla, for those who don't know, is a bun split in two halves (like a hamburger bread, sort of). You put mandelmassa and whipped cream between the two halves and icing sugar on top. Yummy! :chef:

Cuiel Rilwen
March 6th,2006, 07:54 AM

So, anything new?

Domlegolas
March 7th,2006, 06:08 AM
Thanks, cheif Polly :p
Sure,I never thought of Ikea because I know what do they have but sometimes they have special period like Christmas to sell Glogg but Semla, hmm..
But I will go to Ikea soon to buy salmon, swedish meatballs, chocolate (Marabou) etc..lol then let me check for semla, but thank u a lot.

Polly Sandybanks
March 8th,2006, 05:43 PM
You're welcome. You know what? I blame you for my current tummy ache! ;) Your talk of semla made me want one, so on my way back from work today I just had to stop by a café to buy one. It's just that they offered two for the price of one and obviously I can never resist stuff like that, so I got two. Then I went home and ate them. Ugh.. I very rarely eat more than one semla a year.. today I ate two within a few hours. I feel a bit sick now. :p

Hi people! :)
our very own skandinavian post.
I`ve noticed that we norwegian are in minority, but there`s alot of "søta bror" around.
who is the weather in sweden?

Polly Sandybanks
March 11th,2006, 12:45 AM
The weather in Sweden is cold, at the moment. I seriously doubt that we'll ever get spring.. winter might last until May or so and then we'll go straight to summer. At least we've had some sunshine the past few days. That's in the south, where I live (very close to Denmark, I might add), I don't know about the rest of the country.

How's the weather in Norway? :)

Welcome!! (Love gjetost!)

Sacndianvia's own post??.....Hmm.... but the begining of the thread was talking about gatherings in Sweden.... but...... hmmmm...... It doesnt hurt to talk about other issues too :rose: and I am feeling good to catch up with scandinavia :cuddles:

Polly. What???? Do u still think it will might cold until May month?? Ohh.. Hope not.
I just know that it is still snowing in Stockholm, but I am in DC (Washington, DC in Usa) for a while... It is so unusual to have snow during March month.. Wow..
We cant trust weather because of people damages enivornment.... Ops, sorry I dont think to bla bla  forgive me :rose:

Polly Sandybanks
March 11th,2006, 04:27 PM
I was being a bit ironic about winter in May, but who knows? We've had an unusually long winter this year and I've heard that it will be cold until April, at least. We'll see.

Yes, I guess we're a bit off topic here as we're not exactly discussing gatherings anymore.. but well.. :)

Cuiel Rilwen
March 11th,2006, 07:26 PM
Well it's not so unusual for winter to endure till may up here! lol It sure would be some kind of weirdness in the south of Sweden tho! :o

Beriagôn
March 11th,2006, 09:00 PM

I just want to tell "Sakta Lucia" (Santa Lucia) right now as I need to express it, and it is 2am here in Usa, so I am thinking of Sweden (8am now), and Lucia day is special at early morning, and listen to their sing....and see candles...It is once time every year at 13th Dec...
I dont think Norway or Finland have it.. Only Sweden... Or do I have wrong? :)

Copy from Internet
The Queen of Lights. It’s during the darkest hours of the morning of December 13 that the Scandinavian celebration of the festival of lights begins. Lucia, dressed in a white gown, a red sash and a crown of lingonberry twigs, emerges out of the darkness singing the familiar Italian song "Santa Lucia" with candles glowing carrying a tray of rich saffron buns, steaming coffee and occasionally glogg, a mulled wine, to wake the family. The celebration symbolizes the light of faith and the promise of the sun’s return. As a winter icon, Lucia has become nearly as popular and Jultomte, the Swedish Santa Claus.
