View Full Version : The Lay of the Fellowship of the Ring

Hi! I saw something like this on another forum. We all write a verse (or two) to make a long story that rhymes, kind of like the Lay of Leithian, only not quite that long.

You post as little or as much at one time as you like, only please make sure it rhymes in some form. This is going to be about the journey of the One Ring and the Fellowship and the War of the Ring (basicly the books in rhyme. You can talk about as many little details of the story as you want, or you can just mention basics, it's up to you.

Please don't take the story away from the actual LotR story line. This is just the story in rhyme! This is not a parody! Of course, you can make your verses funny, as long as you make them realistic.

Ok, nuf said. I'll start, then some one else can think up the next verse and so on.

Sorry, I'm horrible at rhyming!

The sun shone in the Shire that day.
In a cart filled with fireworks
Rode Gandalf the Gray.
He rode into Hobbiton where the
Hobbits dwell.
He was coming to visit Bilbo
He hoped his friend was well.

Miruvor
August 31st,2002, 04:10 PM
He found Bilbo thin, like whipped butter spread
So they smoked and they partied, till the time came for bed.
But Bilbo's bad humor, sent him hitting the road.
And Frodo inherited a quite heavy load.
The house and the ring, and Gandalf's storytelling,
was more than he wanted, and took quite some selling.
So Gandalf took off on a detective mission,'
While Frodo held tight, drinking ale at the Dragon.
Sam kept up his garden until Gandalf returned.
Then all peace was shattered when the following was learned:

A! Elbereth
August 31st,2002, 05:19 PM
The inherited Ring belonged to a dark lord
His kingdom dwelled past the shire, and far away from the Ford
In this little ring his corruption was kept
To enflame the world with fire, as the victims wept
Frodo had to hold strong, and destory the evil thing
When Gandalf had to leave, who knew what this would bring...

Wilwarin
August 31st,2002, 07:02 PM
Gandalf told Frodo: "You must got to the village of Bree,
There I will meet you and safe the Ring will be"
Gandalf left the Shire on a still summer night.
He rode then to Isengard as fast as his horse could fly...

And Saruman there was mad and said,
"Join me or die."

Meanwhile, Sam, Pippin and Frodo,
Walked through the Shire on the road-o.
And there they found riders in black,
And wished they could turn back.

But the Riders went away
At the end of the day
And the hobbits met some Elves going West,
But could not aide them on their Quest.

Across the Shire they did go
To Farmer Maggot's....

A! Elbereth
August 31st,2002, 11:29 PM
To Farmer Maggot's hole,
Where he told them to be off
But then he saw who they were,
He yelled at his dogs with a scoff
It was Merry, his friend, and beside him one stirred
Maggot laughed at the sight of dear Frodo
and in frodo's mind he shivered and said "oh no"
But he let them in nicely, and gave them some bread
Until it was dark enough for all in the shire to go to bed.

Miruvor
September 1st,2002, 05:18 AM
He got out his wagon, to escort the group,
that night to the ferry, through fog like a soup.
Mrs. Maggot bid farewell and gave them a gift,
A basket with aromas, delicious to sniff.

From behind came some noises, clip clop and clip clop.
They got quite a scare, so they came to a stop.
Hey ho! cried the rider, and they all took a breath-
Glad to see their friend Merry, not those Riders of Death.

Can some one else please go next?**

:o That's not true. I think you are very good. The more you do it, the easier it gets.

How about even just a Haiku, Wilwarin?

:whoohoo: OK, I did what you said, Miruvor, and you were right! I surprised myself! Read on...

They made their way to Crickhollow where Frodo was to stay
For a hot bath and warm bed before going on his way.
"Do you think you could have fooled us?" said Pippin later that night
As the four Hobbits sat by the fire contentedly smoking theur pipes.

"What do you mean?" said Frodo, hoping they hadn't guessed.
His leaving the Shire was to be kept secret and he had done his best.

"You would have left without a word, and that would have all been wrong!
We can't let you leave whithout us on roads dangerous and long...
How far could you have gotten without your friends to help see you through?
It must be pretty clear by now that we are coming to."

**There! Now some one else post Please!**

"Alright!," laughed Frodo happily.
"Perhaps now the road will go merrily."

So off at dawn's first light
They did go
Into the Old Forest
Though they went rather slow.

All day they trecked in the trees
Not seeing a flower nor even a bee.

Miruvor
September 9th,2002, 05:19 AM
Though stuffy and hot, they floundered along,
'till the sweet Withywindle sang them a nap song.
Near a willow they rested, and drank from the stream.
Then the afternoon haze lulled them into a dream.

Sam saw his friends sleeping,
He felt the urge too;
But while his master was dreaming,
He could not sleep too.

All right, 2 and 4 were lousy rhymes... lemme try some more

Tar-Ancalimë
September 11th,2002, 05:17 AM
Once roused a dreadful sight was seen:
Peppin was gone, and Merry going fast--
Down in the branches of an evil tree mean;
Why had they slept! No danger was past!

Hmm... a little better but I hate putting the adj. after the modifyer!

Tar-Ancalimë
September 11th,2002, 05:36 AM
What could they do here?
Fire was no avail--
Frodo was lost to despair
His recourse was to hail:

A hail to a friend! A neighbor!
Help us, help us, help us!
Or now vain shall be our labor!
Help us, help us, help us!

A! Elbereth
September 11th,2002, 05:43 AM
Then all of a sudden, a soft song was heard.
Some words were clear; some cut off and slurred.
As Frodo stood startled; struck dumb in the face,
Old Tom Bobaldi came towards with easiness and grace.
"Hullo dear friends! And what is the matter?
I heard voices in a hurry, in a mindless chatter!"
"Our friends are stuck!" Came the reply,
"The willow tree has them! Do not let them die!"
So old Tom Bobaldi nodded his head,
he rose off his horse and sternly said....

(hmm I'm proud of that one!)

Tar-Ancalimë
September 11th,2002, 05:52 AM
Return to your sleep!
Hobbits you shan't taste!
Them you cannot keep;
Your efforts now a waste.

(You should be. Mine aren't good; but they're fun to write!)

A! Elbereth
September 11th,2002, 05:56 AM
Then Old Man Willow replied with a roaring cry
And Spit out the two hobbits, as Tom Bobaldi sighed
"You hobbits should be careful! This is no where to play!
Next time you feel sleepy, do not let your mind stray!"

Tar-Ancalimë
September 11th,2002, 06:04 AM
But welcome was his word,
And kindly was his meaning,
That day the hobbits heard,
And grateful to him leaning.

Off to Tom's house did they fall,
And no more did the hobbits shiver!
But the lovliest sight of all:
Goldberry! Daughter of the River!

Miruvor
September 11th,2002, 06:03 PM
The enigma, Tom Bombadil, was quite a merry fellow,
Not to mention his knack, as a good storyteller.
The Hobbits were happy to wile away hours.
While the warm constant rain outside, watered the flowers.

They ate, and they rested in nice cozy beds.
But each eve Tom would question and mess with their heads.
He displayed his resistance to the ring’s evil power.
And mocked the lord Sauron, in his Bar-a-Dur tower.

The Hobbits slept lightly, dreaming dreams of sublime,
Or of fears fleeting freely, future memories of the mind.
The rain had now stopped, and it came time to go.
Regenerated and peaceful, as if time had moved slow.

Frodo prickled with heartache when it came time to leave.
He would miss Tom and Goldberry, but they must get to Bree.
Tom told them the way, and advice he did give,
To avoid fog and mounds if they wanted to live.

Wilwarin
September 11th,2002, 08:01 PM
They followed the path where Tom had bid them to ride
For quite a few hours 'till the sun rose up high.
They stoped to eat lunch on top a low rise,
But as the Hobbits ate they couldn't stop rubbing their sleepy eyes...

Tar-Ancalimë
September 11th,2002, 10:06 PM
Asleep did they fall,
In the shade of a stone;
Then panic took them all;
And Frodo was alone.

Lady Ashley
September 11th,2002, 11:57 PM
Soon he was caught by a barrow,
Much to his sorrow
And saw his also-caught friends
And though it was a bad end.

But he called on Tom
Who came quicker than an atom bomb.
The barrow went away;
Tom had saved the day!

"Run in the grass, while I get the loot,"
Said merry old he.
Gold he scattered to the wind,
And Bombadil gave the hobbits some swords
Then sent them on to Bree.

Tar-Ancalimë
September 12th,2002, 03:13 AM
So to Bree did they come
to the inn Prancing Pony,
where they wanted to sip rum
and then finish their journey

Wilwarin
September 12th,2002, 03:29 AM
But Gandalf was not there like he said he would be.
So the Hobbits settled in to wait out the dark night in Bree.
Pippin got too careless, and told a little too much,
About their journey, where they were from, and Frodo's name and such.

Wilwarin
September 12th,2002, 03:33 AM
Frodo had to stop him, he couldn't let his secret get out!
So he put his drink down, then jumped on the table with a shout!

Tar-Ancalimë
September 12th,2002, 03:38 AM
he made himself look foolish,
but worse, by far the worse,
he grew to be obvious,
and all those heard his verse.

and though he cannot be
blamèd, Frodo fell, tripped;
and for all the world to see,
the Ring on his finger slipped.

A! Elbereth
September 12th,2002, 04:19 AM
A comotion trembled through the crowd
As Frodo found himself in a cloud
An ashen grey surrounded his vision
And between the great eye and he, there was a collision
He took off the ring, as fast as he could
And was noticed by strider, grim and tall he stood
He arranged to talk to him, up in a room
And to their talk, they would resume

Tar-Ancalimë
September 12th,2002, 04:26 AM
er...

Strider knew Frodo's mind,
he knew his quest, his problem;
There Frodo was to find
Strider really was to help them!

Sam said no, don't trust in
This Ranger! But Frodo
saw him unique of men,
and so he agreed to go.

AAARGH!!!! That was horrible.

A! Elbereth
September 12th,2002, 04:37 AM
Strider ordered to the hobbits to get ready to go!
For the Nazgul would come it they lingered or went slow
But Merry was missing, and they sent out a search
Only to find him on the road, after the Nazgul's lurch
They took him in, and got him ready
And snuck out of Bree, very quiet - very steady

Tar-Ancalimë
September 12th,2002, 04:52 AM
Frodo followed Strider now,
He had heard from the wizard.
He hinted Strider was wow!
But further the road would be hard.

Miruvor
September 12th,2002, 12:43 PM
Having lost their own ponies in the raid on the Inn,
They bought Bill the pony from Bree's resident feind.
On the way out of town, hot tempers there rose.
And Sam threw a good apple right in Bill Ferny's nose.

Wilwarin
September 12th,2002, 10:37 PM
The small party travled on into the lands of the wild
Leaving behind them all memory of any comfort or style.
They made their way through marshes That were muddy and did stink,
The air was full of miges, and the watter unfit to drink.

After four days of misery hearing the Neekerbreekers breek
They came upon old Weather Top, and it was a sight to see.
An old fortress on a mushroom hill that rose from the wide plain,
A testament of past battles, of suffering and of pain.

It's walls were old and fallen down, no gaurds watched from its windows black,
but for four weary Hobbits it was home, and a place to lay their heavy packs.
"We will rest here tonight", said Strider to their relief.
But events would happen that night to insure that their rest would be brief.

A! Elbereth
September 13th,2002, 12:47 AM
As the hobbits rested atop the ancient hill,
A cry echoed through the night, loud and shrill
Alarmed as they were, they prepared for battle.
The Nazgul had found them, and forced Frodo to prattle.
He had put on the ring and was convinced to obey them,
And fell out in the open, frail and thin.
As Strider and the hobbits fought for their lives,
Frodo was stabbed, helpless against the pain like that of flaming knives

(hmmm not sure if it is all accurate... oh well!)

Tar-Ancalimë
September 13th,2002, 05:26 AM
(sure it is anyway who cares)

The hobbits thought he was dying,
Strider knew they must act quickly.
They were to Rivendell flying,
But get there they could not quickly.

Miruvor
September 13th,2002, 07:36 AM
To avoid the black riders they took lengthly detours.
They bumped into stone trolls and climbed hills and wet moors.
A thunderstorm dampened their campfire and campsite,
And Frodo's wound worsened on this miserable stealth flight.
But down on the main road, when finally the air cleared,
Aragorn heard a rider, but not the one he feared.
"Glorfindel, Glorfindel, what great luck we find you!"
"I've been searching for two days, there are five wraiths behind you."

(Shakespeare, eat your heart out. :naughty: :p from WOTR Poets!)

Wilwarin
September 13th,2002, 07:39 PM
Glorfindel put Frodo the back of Asfaloth
And they continued on their way
down the dangerous path.
As they rounded the corner appraoching the Ford,
They heard a noise behind them that brought nothing but horor.
The Wraiths were catching up, soon they would be there,
That they would actually capture Frodo was Glorfindel's fear.
"Noro lim, Asfaloth!" he shouted to his steed.
Instantly the Elven horse shot forward at flying speeds.

Tar-Ancalimë
September 13th,2002, 11:51 PM
The black steeds were fast;
Asfaloth faster than they.
But the danger not past,
Frodo feared the way.

He crossed the river,
Giving to this his all,
Still did Frodo shiver,
Could the Nazgul fall?

Tar-Ancalimë
September 14th,2002, 02:52 AM
Then the river rose high;
A great flood! To make
The evil Ringwraiths die;
And Frodo to safety to take.

(gee thx for your appreciation Wilwarin!!!!!!!!!! *feels loved* )

Miruvor
September 14th,2002, 07:07 AM
"Give up the Ring" was the black rider's plea.
But Frodo stood fast: "you'll have neither it, nor me!"
The flash flood dispersed them back to the Dark Lord.
As their horses began to cross the Brunien Ford.
Frodo swooned to the ground, and the last he did see,
His companions waving torches, terrorizing the steads.

Tar-Ancalimë
September 14th,2002, 07:13 AM
When he woke up,
Fordo was safe,
and ready to sup
On Rivendell cake.

Lady Ashley
September 14th,2002, 07:16 AM
But later Frodo woke
At 10's first stroke
And behold!
Gandalg sat having a smoke!
"I see you've awoke,"
said he.
"I feared it would not be."

(not my best...but a try!)

Lady Ashley

Oops...didn't see your last one, Miruvor.

Tar-Ancalimë
September 14th,2002, 09:45 PM
um... I'm confused

A! Elbereth
September 14th,2002, 11:02 PM
(I will start the next one)

When Frodo had rested a few hours more
A noise sounded as Sam came flying through the door
As happy as ever, he gave a great cry
Delighted to see his master would not die

Frodo wandered in Rivendell, with Sam by his side
But who was that in the corner of his eye?
Bilbo was resting and Frodo jumped with glee
He ran to his uncle to talk until three

Tar-Ancalimë
September 14th,2002, 11:10 PM
He saw Merry and Pippen
Frodo was happy, they could tell
To see his friends again,
In the peace of Rivendell.

Miruvor
September 15th,2002, 06:18 PM
One each from all races
Started then pouring in,
To Rivendell, with warnings,
Of evil doings in their lands.

After feastings and meetings,
A council warranted debate,
To address all concerns,
And decide the ring's fate.

Wilwarin
September 15th,2002, 08:12 PM
Frodo sat by Gandalf, feeling a little uneasy
When Elrond called him to show the Ring
His stomach began to feel queesy.
He placed it on a pedestal
For everyone there to behold,
The Ring shone brightly,
The morning sun reflecting the gold.

Lady Ashley
September 15th,2002, 09:32 PM
All about, everyone sat waiting
Listening to severals' tales
Until came the debating.

"Throw it away," an Elf said.
"Give it to Tom!," said another.
Elrond musta thought, "O, brother."

Until at last it came down to:
"We must destoy It," said Elrond.
"And who will take it?"

Bilbo jumped up and said he would
If he could.
Gandalf said, "No, it has passed from you
"Who will do the deed?"

Frodo had been silent
Listening and thinking
Never blinking.
At last he stood and said,
"I will take it, though the way I know not."
Sam was to go too, though said he:
"A pickle indeed! A fine spot!"

Tar-Ancalimë
September 16th,2002, 03:52 AM
After the Council Elrond declared,
"There shall be nine of you,
"Against those of the Enemy feared."
Elves shall come and Dwarves too.

Then Gandalf agreed,
He would not stay.
Frodo of him had need,
He knew it would not be play.

For men Boromir came,
He understood not the Ring,
Nor that he could not it tame,
This powerful treacherous thing.

So Legolas came,
And Gimli as well.
They were eager to tame
The Enemy's forces fell.

Still empty were two spots,
Elrond spoke of nine.
The small hobbits were hot,
They wanted not to be behind.

So came Peppin and Merry
"No fun" though they were told.
All knew they could not tarry;
The year was growing old.

Miruvor
September 16th,2002, 09:23 AM
Yet two more months they spent lingering,
While Aragorn scoped out the lands around.
In three directions rangering.
Looking out for where evil might be found.
Direct to the south was obstacle free,
So the Company of Nine that direction are bound.

Lady Ashley
September 16th,2002, 02:09 PM
Two months did pass
As the hobbits did rest
Until the time came
For the Quest.

Pippin and Merry were chosen as the two
Tho Elrond felt that would not do.
Nine Companions left that December
So different was each member!:

Four Hobbits and an Elf
A Dwarf in mail
Two men and a Wizard
Hearkened to the Hail.

Miruvor
September 17th,2002, 08:26 AM
(Well, this poeting is a hard job, but someone has to keep it up.)

The Nine Walkers prepared,
Anduril newly was forged.
Bilbo passed on to Frodo,
His Mithril mail and Sword.

Sting was it's name,
And Bill the pony came too.
In the icy chill of Winter
With their lips turning blue.

They set off south for Hollin,
Land of old elves, but fair.
Plans to cross over Redhorn
To the Eastern Dimrill Stair.

Tar-Ancalimë
September 18th,2002, 01:36 AM
Aragorn said to go
Over Redhorn, cruel and
Harsh it was; though
twas the way to the land.

hmmm that must have been my worst effort yet :(

Wilwarin
September 18th,2002, 03:13 AM
(Gosh, I am currantly stumped!)

Miruvor
September 19th,2002, 02:18 AM
At the foothills they first camped,
But Wargs howled through the night.
The evil wolf pack attacked them,
But Gandalf thwarted them with light.

His staff lit the treetops,
So defense was assured.
Morning brought on a snow storm,
At Redhorn's slopes; they endured,

Until the mountain defeated,
Their climb to the pass,
With avalanche and blizzard,
Forcing alternative redress.

Wilwarin
September 19th,2002, 08:14 PM
The Fellowship debated about which way to go.
The Gap of Rohan was too close to Isengard,
To the Mines of Moria Gandalf said no.
The decision seemed to be terribly hard.

Finally Gandalf said, "the Ringbearer will choose the road".
Frodo thought for a while,
Then said, "through Moria we will go".

(That's bad! I don't even know if it was right! I haven't read the books in a while!)

Tar-Ancalimë
September 20th,2002, 05:30 AM
( well it wasnt like that in the books but it was in the movie so that OK. anyway you made this thread.)

They went to Moria
Passing through Hollin.
The river turned into a
Lake, and evil lurked within.

(and oops we're getting confused Miruvor already talked about this)

They reached the door
Made by the elves.
Gandalf read the door,
in the language of elves.

(yuck yuck yuck that wasnt rhyming that was reiteration)

He pondered a while
Til he knew the answer
Very simple by a mile!
Twas easy to weather.

(hmm humm gotta think here)

"Mellon!" he cried,
And the doors opened.
They went inside,
The home of gimli's kin.

Miruvor
September 21st,2002, 11:05 PM
(No, No, that's OK. I only got them into the land of Hollin, so you are perfect getting them to the Moria gates.)

Once inside they found evidence
of massacres done by Orcs.
Of Dwarves they found there no presence
So headed back for the doors.

But something slimey grabbed Frodo
And terror captured the crowd.
A battle hot they must now do
To save poor Frodo from the shroud.

Tar-Ancalimë
September 22nd,2002, 01:23 AM
Merry and Pippen did what they could,
Which was not much, though they did try.
Aragorn came running, slashing with sword,
Boromir rushed too, and cut the tentacle high.

Frodo fell into safety, his danger was less,
Legolas shot the monster right in the head.
They then had but one choice to test,
Into the mines, for the Watcher was not dead.

Miruvor
September 22nd,2002, 03:52 AM
Blackness clapped all in the mine.
But Gandalf's night light came on in time.

It's a four day journey to the other side.
So keep swords near and eyes open wide.

For evil dwells in these deep places,
That you cannot fathom yet, even in traces.

Lady Ashley
September 22nd,2002, 04:01 AM
Onward they journeyed in the earth
A dark, sad place
Deprived of mirth.

On they walked
No one balked
Until they came to a three-way fork
No memory had Gandalf of the place.

So they sat in the guard-room
In the gloom
As they waited
For Gandalf'sm memory to resume.

Pippin dropped a stone in a pit
"Fool of a Took!," cried Gandalf
("Silly git," someone also musta thought).

At last Gandalf remembered!
"This is the way!
"Let us go,
"And make no more delay!"

Tar-Ancalimë
September 22nd,2002, 05:41 PM
They entered the great realm
Of the dwarf city of Darrowdelf,
Once thirving with Durin at the helm,
Now only a lonely Khazad-dum shelf.

There was Gimli fated to see
The tomb of his cousin, Balin,
The last Lord of Moria to be,
The last one to inhabit therein.

Lady of Rohan
September 24th,2002, 10:55 PM
I will post one... if I may

(I don't remember how it went in the book so I shall follow the movie here)

In Balin's tomb, in Moria, all was quiet.
Gandalf found a tome and opened it.

He read it out loud, it was about the fall
Of the last dwarves in Khazad-dum's hall.

But Pippen who became quite curious
Touched a skeleton, and quite bad that was.

Deep into the hole fell the skeleton loudly,
Arousing the orcs, then they came quickly.

Wilwarin
September 25th,2002, 07:10 PM
**Well now I'm confused! We have been following the books all this time. Lady Ashley already had Pippin drop a stone down the well; now he's dropping skeletons! What happens now?!**

Tar-Ancalimë
September 25th,2002, 09:39 PM
well... we could just have them fight in balins tomb and forget about how they got started fighting....

p.s. wil, be nice! L of R thats fine, we'll just go from here--thanks for posting!

Lady Ashley
September 26th,2002, 12:08 AM
A therein began
Clashing of bows
Clashing of swords
Of Hobbit, Men Elves and Dwarves
Against the teaming horde.

But too many came
So the Fellowship left
But not before Frodo
Got clipped!

They thought him dead
But they ran, though
Behind them was fear
And ahead was dread.

Down the stairs they went
And Gandalf too
Though his energy spent
Down through the mines
Running for their lives.

Soon they came to Bridge
That lay across
A gaping ridge
And a darkened pit.

Tar-Ancalimë
September 26th,2002, 01:13 AM
Frodo cried, "Put me down!
"I'm all right." Stider, thinking
Frodo dead to be found,
was almost Frodo dropping!

The fellowship ran
Across the bridge, fast,
But, then, oh no! Can
The Balrog get past?

Lady Ashley

Gandalf suddenly said,
"You cannot pass!"
With a wave of sword and satff
He defied the Balrog
And broke the broke the bridge in half.

October 2nd,2002, 03:41 AM
The Balrog fell into the deep, dark pit
And Gandalf by its flaming whip was hit.
It wraped around his leg and pulled him over the brink,
"Fly you fools!" the wizard cried, and Frodo's heart did sink.

Slashing Orc guards to death, out of anger, through tears,
On the rest trampled out through the East Moria doors.
One half mile on they sped, down the steep Dimrill stairs,
Then collapsing in grief, not a dry eye was spared.

The Fellowship was torn
Of their leader, of their guide,
They were of comfort shorn,
And for them hope had died.

Lady Ashley
October 5th,2002, 05:27 AM
But on they went
Before day was spent.

Past the Mirrormere
To the Silverlode
They strode.

Legolas sang of the Silverlode
As they went past
On the way toward the Golden
And entered at last.

Sudden laughter filled the air
(Gimli was certainly in despair).
Elves it was, who had heard the song
And bid Frodo come up
And slung down a silver rope, slim but strong.

(Not my best, I know, but I haven't read must poetry lately.)

October 5th,2002, 05:29 AM
**you're welcome, wil!**

they go see mirrormere... discover Frodo's mithril... Frodo suspects gollum is following them... they go into the woods... legolas sings his song of luthien...they meet Haldir... he takes them to lorien... and they meet G and C... I think I have read this too many times!

Frodo climbed up the tree on the silver rope ladder,
Sam resolved, though afraid, to the flet he must clatter.
Elves directed the others to climb the tree nearby.
Sleep was restless that night, as they watched the stars glide by.

While the Elves kept their watch, they were drawn off to Orc fights,
Driving all from their woods, plus a squirrel with strange eye lights.
Frodo guessed it was Gollum, and was glad he did skelter,
Frightened off when the Elf folk came returning for shelter.

That very next morning,
They set off to see the
Lady of Light, by going
On to her mallorn city.

Miruvor
October 11th,2002, 07:06 AM
First they crossed over Celebrant,
A make shift bridge, light ropes spanned.
Hobbit feet found it tricky,
But hither safely they crossed to land.

From that land, Dwarves were banned,
So the company agreed,
To go on, all or none,
Blindfolded, but hands free.

The elves Haldir and friends,
Lead them, surefooted on,
Not to stumble or stub toe,
'Till they reached a fair lawn.

Then their eyes were unbound,
And they gasped as they stood.
For Cerin Amroth gleamed before them.
Hill and City of the Golden Wood.

Your kidding! On re-reading, that first verse, it really tounge-tied me. I don't know what I was thinking.

Well anyway, I think everybody is doing great, and its fun anyway, even if not perfect.

In the glow of stars deep,
The Lothlorien night,
Frodo woke from his sleep,
And saw the Lady's light.

Sam felt his master go,
And his sleep was gone,
He then followed Frodo,
And they came upon...

[I guess I have plenty of time....]

Then she led them to a hollow,
Green grass tickled all their toes,
Down some marble steps they followed,
While above them Venus rose.

A lovely garden bowl she filled
With crystal water from a brook
Not a drop of it she did spill,
She invited them to look.

Sam, who very much liked magic
Gladly stepped up to the bowl
But the view he saw was tragic
And he couldn’t bear it more.

I must get home in a hurry!
Someone’s tearing up the Row.
And the trees and town are burning,
Master, please say we can go!

Sam, the visions may deceive you.
First to Frodo please be true.
There are times that he will need you,
Then there’s nothing you need rue.

Frodo next looked in the mirror
But there, only did he see,
He saw Gandalf and dear Bilbo,
He saw ships upon the sea.

He saw battles fierce in Gondor
Under dark and murky skies.
Then at last his ring weighed on him,
Drawn to merge there with the EYE.

With all power he had in him,
He was able to escape
The dread evil there that bid him,
While the Lady guessed his fate.

I know what it was you saw there,
For it’s also in my mind.
The last days of Elves are now here.
The final ending YOU must find.

Although you are small and lonely,
These traits still may be our hope.
Though the path be hard and stoney,
Samwise here, will help you cope.

Lady please, I want to give you
This gold ring for your fair hand.
For I have no strength to cling to.
And the quest is far too grand.

I have dreamed I’d like to wield this,
Have such powers to control,
Lands and minds and hearts, and all bliss,
But I know that can’t be so.

I will stay 'myself', and here rest,
Till evil all is overthrown.
Then with the other Elves, I’ll go west.
Over seas, to Valinor.

Dwelling in Lorien,
Time exsisted not,
Laughing with the elven,
The Nine tarried a lot.

Many days passed--
Or was it an hour?
The peaceful, deep rest
Continued to flower.

But soon, their time was come,
Lothlorien was not the end,
And the peaceful time was done,
Again the quest the must begin.

The fair Lady of Light
Bid them fare well,
"Namarie!" into the night,
Fair gifts she gave to all:

To each, an elven cloak,
Light, fair, and strong,
A brooch, for every one,
Wrought with silver ir'n.

goodness that didn't rhyme. sorry Wil

After sharing there, a final meal
Celeborn and fair Galadrial
Gave to Merry and Perregrin
Golden belts, and one for Boromir

For Aragorn, she bejeweled a sheath
To house and honor Anduril
For Legolas, a stronger bow
And some arrows made of elven skill.

For Sam, the rope he knew he’d miss
Plus a box of Lothrorien soil
To Frodo, she gave a kiss,
And a crystal light to darkness foil.

Now to Gimli, she was all remiss
Not knowing his delight or care.
To her surprise, he asked, but for nought
Lest it be just a strand of hair.

In their sadness, they accepted all.
Boarded gray boats both light and long
Down the Anduin, they set their course
Loss of joy bearing on them strong.

It was terror and toil I feared
Mused the dwarf as they drifted on.
Had I guessed this loss be so severe.
I’m not sure that I would have come.

Legolas softend his heart to him
Seeing Gimli in a love-struck mode
Friendship hardly could escape them now,
Sharing feelings at leaving last abode.

Wilwarin
November 16th,2002, 08:55 PM
Wow! That was really nice! How can I follow that? But I will try.

Down the mighty Anduin they went
Forever southward on
They rowed until the day was spent
Until the sun was gone.

Deep in the night Sam had a dream.
Or a dream it was not, but funny it seemed.
It made him sit up, for wrong it was and queer,
A log with eyes was drawing near!

Sam told Frodo, and what it was Frodo knew,
Bilbo's old stories had given him a clue.
Gollum it was, and Aragorn agreed.
That's what Frodo had seen in the Lothlorien tree.

**Ok, that last part wasn't that good! Your's are the best, Miruvor!**

Tar-Ancalimë
November 16th,2002, 09:35 PM
Another ev'ning feared,
The sun was low,
The day's journey neared,
And an evil shape reared.

The terror it brought,
Could not be compared,
But swiftly 'twas caught
By an arrow, well marked!

On down the Anduin,
Their elven vessels,
Swift and keen,
Leaping forth did flow.

Passing by the Argonath,
Great Guardians watched,
Statues their vigil watch
Now, Numenorean lost:

In each hand there was an ax,
On each head was there a helm.
To the north their watch did they tax,
Kings of grandeur, of the lost realm.

Arrival at Parth Galen!
The one journey over,
The next soon to begin,
But now, what road to cover?

Boromir's city, Minas Tirith,
Offers a way, safe and simple,
The road would be swift,
The coming laudable.

Or over Emyn Muil?
A labryinth, impassible,
No hurts could it heal,
Hard and rocky, unthinkable.

The decision fell once,
To the Ring Bearer, Frodo:
Which way, and how, whence
To leave, and where to go.

(sheesh, this is difficult. yes Miruvor's are definately by far the best  )

Miruvor

Haven't you noticed that we ALL got better as we went along?
I'd say we "got the hang of it" now.
Of course having the LOTR story to follow certainly gives us great material to work with! I don't know that I could think up a good story on my own.
Be back later when I get creative again.

Lady Ashley
November 17th,2002, 02:57 AM
So Frodo went to think
In the wood.
Then the Fellowship waited
For the word---bad or good.

Frodo was alone yonder in the trees,
But Boromir came and said
"I must speak to you, please."

Boromir spoke
From his heart mighty plans did spring.
And in Frodo fear awoke
For tt seemed Boromir wanted
The Ring!

(gee, I haven't posted here in a while! Not much I know, but something, even if it's terribly simple.)

‘But for unhappy chance
The ring could have been mine’
And with that Boromir fell,
Into madness, unkind.

Frodo risked his best resource,
For avoiding such fear.
He was able to put his ring,
On, and disappear.

Then he left Boromir startled,
And to realize his err,
And repent just a bit late,
While Frodo fled up the hill.

There he looked from the Seeing Seat,
Though he seemed in a haze.
To the West, North, East, South
Where Sauron captured his gaze.

But before Sauron’s consciousness
Could pin down his prey,
Frodo thought he heard Gandalf:
‘Take it off!’ Don’t be fey!

Tar-Ancalimë
November 17th,2002, 06:52 PM
Frodo struggled with the Ring,
And voices, mad, inside his head,
He knew what was the best thing,
And, with a rush, take it off he did.

Fresh air rushed to him,
Barad-dur was far away,
The sky was clear, not grim,
And calming was the day.

Then he knew what he must do,
The Ring was powerful,
And companions weak too,
So he knew what path to pull.

As he sped towards the boat,
Shouts! His ears smote,
And he knew that his friends
were out searching for him,
But he'd made up his mind,
Alone he must find
A path to mount Doom,
And that very soon.
So he put on the Ring.....

Hmm.....anybody?

Desperate Sam, who was worried,
That his Frodo may find,
Some dark devilry lurking
which would screw up his mind.

So Sam rightly deciphered,
Frodo's thoughts to depart,
"But without your dear Sam?
Mr. Frodo, that's hard!"

Run, run fast to the boats,
For that's where he must be.
"Mr. Frodo, I'm coming!
Please, you must wait for me!"

Sam came running down the grassy hill,
As he saw the empty boat slide down.
I’ll knock holes in that boat, you’ll see
‘fore I let you go that way alone.’

‘It would likely be the death of you!
Sam, I’m only trying to be kind.’
‘Not as surely as my death would come’
If you go off leaving me behind!’

‘But I’m going to Mordor’ Sam
‘There to do what I know I must’
‘Of course you are, And I’m coming too,
I’m here to help you, in that you may trust.’

Sam dove in trying to catch the boat,
Nearly drowning ‘neath the lake of blue,
‘So my plan is all spoilt, dear Sam !
No use trying to escape from you!’

‘I hope the others find a safer way,
But I doubt that we’ll ever know.’
‘Yet we may’, said Sam, ‘see them again-
Strider’ll find for them a way to go.’

‘I’m really glad you’re going with me Sam’
Frodo said as they packed more gear,
Then they aimed for the Brown Lands shore
And they rowed past the Tol Brandir,

But the next book is the one to read
If of Hobbits’quests, for more you yearn.
Their adventures will resume therein
For this Fellowship is officially done.

I may have to hurry and re-read TTT because it's not as fresh in my mind as the Fellowship. I would prefer to wait until TTT comes out. That would give me time to re-read the book also.

I saw it Illu! Really nice! Just a thought.......maybe you could provide an option to print on that page? It's kind of long to sit there and read the whole thing. I know I usually just save things to my desktop, but some times it doesn't work or wont let me for some reason, and then I can't print it at all!

I've started reading the books again, so maybe I'll be able to get some insperation for the TTT poem.
