Ok, this is another poem by me! Of COURSE you all know that I did not come up with the first two lines, "The Road goes ever on and on, Down from the door where it began." Nope! That's my disclaimer. Not did I write the phrase "there and back again". Enjoy!
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began,
Ever on until it’s gone
We will follow if we can.
Across the rivers of silver sheen
Through the woods of darkened green
Over mountains tall and grey
Until each end of day.
The Road goes on and on
Forever and always,
Past adventure, past sorrow
Until the End of Days.
We will go there and back again,
Arriving there to meet the foe
And then back where we once began
Where the road began to go.
(If anyone has any suggestions about the last line, please tell me! It doesn't make sense, the last line "where the road began to go" but it was all I could go on with something that rhymed with "foe".)
