View Full Version : Do you think ROTK will be the best out of the three?

TheRingBearer
August 31st,2002, 06:18 PM
I am personally anticipating this film the most simply because it ends the trilogy and when its finished everyone will know what happens but it will be sad when we realise that the three year journey of Lord of the Rings is slowly coming to a close (but not here :) )

Nessa
August 31st,2002, 07:45 PM
Of course it will be the best! All of the most exciting things happen, the climax....... there is both a terrific amount of action and heartbreaking emotional scenes. I am very much looking forward to it...... but I can definately wait! I think I will be sad to see all of the hype die down..... I'm guess that means I'm enjoying the wait. :)

Orkybash
August 31st,2002, 08:10 PM
We can only hope we'll have a Hobbit movie to look forward to after RotK...

Or perhaps the Silmarillion? =P

At any rate, I definitely think RotK's gonna be the best. There's just so many cool scenes that blow anything else in the books out of the water! (when Gandalf holds the gate to minas Tirith against the Nazgul... *shivers*)

The only thing I can see going wrong is Jackson screwing up the ending. Since <SPOILER> we already know the Scouring's out </SPOILER>, it would be too easy to drop the emotion about Frodo not fitting in in the Shire anymore. But we'll see.

Nessa
August 31st,2002, 08:21 PM
I have considered the possiblility of Jackson screwing up, but he wouldn't pass up an oppurtunity of angst such as that, or at least I hope not. Its going to be a real letdown if the flavor of the ending is lost..... but I think I shall remain optimistic.

TheRingBearer
August 31st,2002, 08:21 PM
That is a bummer but I'm sure he'll make the ending special none the less.

Humph. I'm just wondering how the **** he's gonna end TTT! But, ROTK will be spectacular nonetheless...

Black Rider
September 1st,2002, 02:11 AM
i am so sure that at the end of ROTK i am going to cry my eyes out! mecry and most likely at the end of TTT also. it will be so sad. but i dont think, nessa, that pj will screw up the ending that much, in regards to emotions and such. just don't think that in the middle of TTT it's half over, that's sad in and of itself. ;)

Orkybash
September 1st,2002, 02:38 AM
All I know is that people have let out that TTT is gonna end in a cliffhanger...

So my theory is it's gonna end with Frodo and Sam hanging on the elven rope as they climb down off of the Emyn Muil! =P j/k

Sindarin

I think ROTK will be the best film of the three.

And it is confirmed that Peter Jackson is going to make The Hobbit into a feature film after he finishes directing his WWI epic! :)

Here's hoping he decides to adapt The Silmarillion! :elfqueen:

Orkybash
September 1st,2002, 07:22 AM
It's been confirmed now? Last I heard he really wanted to do it, but he hasn't said for sure that he would.

TheRingBearer
September 1st,2002, 10:48 AM
Since the hobbit is such a small story compared to the lord of the rings I don't suppose he'll need to cut bits out, hopefully :)

Galadriel
September 1st,2002, 03:24 PM
I think that Rotk is going to be realy good. it has a lot of action in with the fighting at Minas Thrith and then there Sam and frodo in Mordor trying to climb mount. Doom. Also there will be heart break at the end when Frodo goes off and leaves Sam. I want it to come to see what happens but then I don't mind the weight becasue that would mean that the trilogy would have ended.

TheRingBearer
September 1st,2002, 05:28 PM
Agreed. Bring on the Hobbit!! :)

Orkybash
September 1st,2002, 06:14 PM
Well, considering how Rankin-Bass (sp?) did a fairly complete job of telling the story, I don't think Jackson should have too much trouble.

I just hope they don't change actors on us! Wouldn't it be a disaster to have people other than Ian Holms/Ian McKellen play Bilbo/Gandalf?

Lady Ashley
September 2nd,2002, 03:44 AM
WHAT THE HECK!!! HE CAN'T MAKE THE HOBBIT!!! THAT'S GOING TOO FAR!!!

Actually, I love SW... its second only to LotR for me.
And I think the Hobbit will really top it off.
And I can't wait for RotK, it is the best.

But I wish the scouring was in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With all my heart I do!!!!!!!!!! More even than Tom Bombadil, if truth be confessed.

ROTK is gonna to be BRILLIANT!!!!!!

Pil
September 4th,2002, 09:36 AM
If truth be confessed....then i think the scouring is WAY more important than bombadil...i mean...bombadil would have made little difference to the story and the developement of the characters...but the scouring is a MAJOR part that lets us really see how much the characters have come along from their original personalitites...especially merry and pippin...not that i'm partial to them or anything... :p

TheRingBearer
September 4th,2002, 06:54 PM
I agree. I didn;t actually find Tom Bombadil very important, but just as a little something that readers could understand.

Yeah I would be VERY UPSET if PJ did that to us. But I am looking forward to all the sad goodbyes, Legolas and Gimli at the caves. And meeting Treebeard again, seeing Isengard and watching wormtounge killing his master.

But I will cry when Sam and Frodo give up on the slopes of Mt. Doom, and the parting of The Fellowship.

But the Hobbit as a movie?:whoohoo:

ROTK is my favorite of the series. faramir and eowyn *sigh* i hope they do it justice. but i think that the TTT, like The Empire Strikes Back will be the best in the series... just a sneaking suspicion

going back to the 'was bombdil important thing' I think it was....i mean it shows that some people do have the power to resist the ring...and also there was the whole barrowdowns thing linking in with tom. all in all i would say that he is quite important to the story!

Gatsby
October 8th,2002, 09:33 PM
the scouring really brings the character transformations full circle. at the beggining of the story the hobbits had never even held a sword before and after their adventure their bolder stronger smarter and are really unafriad. i think it's extremely important, but then again it would be confusing to the non-readers

I'm afraid that has over-ruled any joy that the readers might have got out of the scouring...:(...though many of us are upset...i think we can agree that it was probably the best thing to do...not to leave the viewers feeling confused and doubtful about the film...especially as it is the last one...they want a lasting impression... :)

Bonos-Girl
October 10th,2002, 05:15 PM
i don't see how it would be that confuzzling to non-readers...i know that in a film you can't have little notes at the end and stuff but they could've found a way.

this is what i'm thinking... perhaps arwen says it to someone else. i mean gandalf says "he is not so mighty, yet he stays above fear"in the movie (TTT) about saruman, and i think he says that about sauron in the ROTK (book). jackson is throwing lines all over the place. if they thought the scouring of the shire would be confusing, killing off aragorn at the end would just be... mind boggling

At least we know Shelob will be in there.

Too bad he didn't make two movies per book so we would have a 6 movie series, with everything in them and 2.5 hours each.

I am really looking forward to Elijah Wood's performance in that film. By that point in the book, he really is tired and very much becoming more corrupted by the ring. How can I mention how excited I am for ROTK without mentioning my absolute favorite part!? That would have to be when Ewoyn fights the Ringwraith!! That is going to be the best. I think ROTK will be the best of the three, and I'm not a bit worried about the ending. With all the cool stuff Jackson's done, I think he will be able to pull it off. Plus, the whole shire part has little effect on the central "ring" story. (You can't put it ALL in there...)

I'm really looking forward to ROTK. I think it will be the closest to the books of any of the 3 movies, except for pushing some things from TTT into ROTK. Maybe it was on Bravo's from Page to Screen last night, but Elijah said that he'd watched a scene from the end of ROTK and cried. Then he watched it 5 minutes later and cried all over again. Must be good, then!!

We know the Gray Havens' farewell scene is a tear-jerker. But the emotional set up to it is important. I wonder if they return from Minas Tirith and go straight for the Gray Havens, like the Fellowship in reverse, shedding Companions along the way, tying up loose threads in the story. (since the Scouring of the Shire is out).

My fave part of the book is when the corsians of umbar are sighted on the anduin and the last hope leaves all men. And when i read how they see the banner on the ship i shiver! It's so great! Then we have the ending of course, which i hope will be sad, just like the book. Hopfully they will jurney back slowly to the shire. Burying theoden and saying hello to saruman and treebeard. And returning to a nice shire. Then they leave for the havens.

Oh, i definately think that The Return of the King will be the best movie out of the three! All the actors said it was really good, and the book was really good - really sad - and from looking at the books and how PJ translated the other books to screen, I think it's going to be the best! I also found an interview with Peter Jackson. Here is what he said: Q: Why is The Return of the King your favorite?

JACKSON: It's climactic. It's got an ending! (He laughs.) And it's about time! No, no. It's very, very emotional. ... And I find it... Aw, well, there's several places where I kind of had tears in my eyes. It's biblical. And it has a kind of climactic sense to it. It's wonderfully over the top and epic. And it's as if at the same time really incredibly emotional. It's a lot about courage. The Frodo/Sam element of the next film is a lot about guts and determination and courage, which I find it quite affecting. Oh, it's gonna be GREAT! i can't wait! bring out the tissues! mecry

:gofatty: i'm still in shock that my mom let me go! And that you can come too, Galadriel! It's going to be so much fun! The costumes, the parties, staying up late, and the best part of all... the movie! That, of course, will be the best part of the night! veryhappy (or should i say morning ;) haha)

Okay so I was sleep deprived too you know. We were both a little out of it that day. Oh well. I don't care where we see it as long as I get to go.

can't wait can't wait cant' wait...

but still..not having the Scouring of the Shire is kind of unfortunate...:p
but i'm sure Shelob, Mount Doom and all the battles can make up for it right?

ahhh..i really can't wait... (but meanwhile i'll go watch FOTR/TTT again) ;)

oops sorry..sorry I didn't answer the question... i think it'll be close between FOTR and ROTK though.. books-wise FOTR's my favorite...but it's going to be a close one... just as long as Jackson doesn't do anything other than cut the Scouring... (like make someone die or something)... so ROTK should be the best one since it is the climatic finish but we'll see if it can match the amazing beginning =)

I personally liked Lord of the Rings- the Two Towers the best out of the first two, and probably will like it the best out of the three, but RotK will be longer (I think) and it will probably have a lot more action because it's the ending of the journey, so it probably will be the best (more people will like it more), but I'm sticking with The Two Towers. Just started ROTK (re-re-re-re-........reading the book) and I have to say, it's my fave. After so many times, I still look forward to the battle at Pelennor Fields, and the demise of the witch king. Frodo's final showdown at the Cracks of Doom still, to this day, move me in a way I can't describe. And then, (and I HOPE PJ uses these) the final conclusion of the Fellowship as described in the appendices....how beautiful is that? ROTK has got the be the pentultimate movie of the 3, and will probably take To Kill A Mockingbird out of my top position.( and that is the only book I've read, and loved, more than LOTR)
