Oh, I wasn't too sure about which forum to post this in, but since it concerns the Havens, here we are.
Ok, something occured to me when I last watched Fellowship. Ya know when Gandalf and Bilbo are blowing smoke rings on Bag End's porch in the movie? Bilbo makes a ring and Ganfal makes a ship go thru it? Well, the ship goes through the ring into the sunset: a very clear, subtle forshadowing of the Grey Havens!!! I don't know why in the world I caught that then and not before, but the point is, that was VERY cool. Did anyone else catch that previously?

Yes i saw that part in noticed that the ship went in to the sunset but never assocated it with the gray havens till now.

wow, good eyes!
It amazes me how much symbolism Jackson's worked into the movie when you watch closely.

You know, as I really think about this, red flags start going up in my head. Why, you ask?
Well PJ "foreshadowed" the Scouring of the Shire in Galadriel's mirror, but it turned out that was just his tribute to the scene since he was going to cut it. What if this is the same thing - what if PJ cut the Grey Havens, so the ship sailing off into the sunset is just his "tribute" to that part of the books?

nooooooo! but I have to say I'm going to watch the film and think about it in detail! I have missed so many things! maybe I should put my glasses on? probably a good idea.

Omg noo! I hope that not what's going to happen. I mean how are they going to end the movie then? I think them sailing of into the Gray Havens would be an ideal ending. I mean it is sad to see Frodo leaving but yet it would show that that was the end of the great adventure.

he can't leave it off....it would be a really cheesy ending but it is the only way TO end it....

Well if he does he will regret it, with the amount of fans that are expecting the proper ending.

It would be the worst thing EVER to not have the grey havens and the sailing to aman... :(

Good old PJ, leaving us with hints and clues.

ach, I think there'll be the Grey Havens. I don't think PJ would go that far. He might cut out the Scouring, but the Grey Havens? The tear-jerker part!? No, he'll show it. I really did nearly cry the first time I read that part...*sniff*
You rock, Mr. Tolkien. Rest in peace. (well, he might not be getting the proper peaceful eternal rest since his beloved books got sliced and diced.)

Well, PJ will make an even clearer reference to the Grey Havens in the extended version, when Frodo and Sam see the Elves travelling west, so hopefully he will see the need for further reference in ROTK. Geepers! he'd better verymad
So, anybody heard any rumors of a big ship being built!

I just returned from a road trip and was listening to the whole trilogy on CD and the Grey Havens chapter with Sam having to give up Frodo forever was the ONLY chapter that made me cry all the way through. Even moreso, having it read TO me, rather that reading it myself. Ow, it was so awful (in a good way). PJ would be really stupid to leave out that chapter. I think I didn't cry as much in the 'Choices of Samwise' chapter because it was more shocking and thrilling, rather than just plain sad.

i reckon he'll leave it in because it is so sad.....he couldn't really leave it out!!"

Based on this quote that I just read over at TORN I think the Grey Havens will be in ROTK
-Jackson has already earmarked the film's final scene, which takes place amid the sweeping landscape of the Grey Havens, as his favourite.
"To me, it's a culmination of the entire story; it represents what it is to give and what it is to lose," he says. "That scene is probably the most powerful part of the entire film." -
I'm glad the grey havens are in it, I still wish the scouring was in ROTK though.

Sounds so beautiful. Thanks. I am pretty confident on PJ knowing how to give us a great climactic scene to his production. This will be the movie(s) that puts him in the movie-making history books.
(But I STILL would love to see Sam go home afterwards to Rosie and say "Well, I'm back." - That's where I always break up!) mecry mecry mecry
