Hello there Ringers :wave:
As Art now has an enthusiastic new co-mod (welcome Leia) there are going to be some changes/additions hopefully for the better.
Our short-term plans are to organise the forum and some of the threads and intoduce an information thread or two. This includes/could include:
*Organising the Fantasy site sticky (you should see the results of that soon)
*Introducing one or two other stickys with links to other types of Art e,g nature/botanical art
The purpose of this is (1) to make members aware of the many wonderful sites out there. We do not want a whole collum of stickys with links to every single type of art there is and we might be able to do it one, but a few catergories we think would be good. (2) Art isn’t just about sharing links it is also about discussing artwork, I would hope that if someone found a particular painting that they liked on one of those art sites, they would open a thread with a link to it in this forum so it could be discussed.
*Directory of threads – Leia and I will be going through the forum and picking out threads that seem to us to be intresting and perhaps worthy of more discussion or hold information.
~Linked to this and probably part of the same sticky we were thinking of listing and linking the members art threads. If a member has art put up in the art section we would put a link to there also.We hope that this wil encourage more discussion of members artwork.
It has been drawn to our attention that there is a need for a thread explaining Art paint mediums as some of us are unsure of the different kinds or how to recognise them.
This is solely in Leia’s hands and she will be putting up once it is finished.
These are the core changes that will be going on, we of course welcome any comments of suggestions regarding them.
We have a few other ideas for the forum which we would like your feedback on:
Study of an LOTR painting – Each week or so we would like to put up a painting to discuss/analyse we could work this in two ways:
1) Either Leia or I selects puts up the painings and if you have any requests for painings you can pm the links to us or
2) and I personally prefer this, one of us starts off the thread but when it seems that talk has run out on it anyone can post a new one up for discussion.
This would be limited to LOTR paintings and because it would be better to have them image posted on the thread taking them from our own Art Gallery would seem to be best way of doing it. However we are open to suggestions on this.
Artist interpretarions – This would involve choosing an Lotr character eg. Aragorn or a scene eg. Gandalf fighting the Balrog and either image posting or posting links to three of four artist interpretations of it eg. Alan Lee, Tim Kirik, Ted Nasmith & Carol Emrey Phoenix and then discussing the different styles, use of colour detail etc
Again this would probably be started by either Leia or myself but if others would like to post links to pictures to be compared then we’d have no problem with that.
There are also a couple more fact and fun things were thinking of and will be working on for the future but this pretty much what we are considering at the moment.
If you have any ideas or suggestions for the Art forum that are not covered here the feel free to make suggestions we would also welcome comments on the suggestions I have laid out.
