View Full Version : "We will go through the mines!"

I do not like how the impression was given that Frodo chose the path of the Fellowship's journey. In the book it was Gandalf and Aragorn's debate as to how they were going to make their way over the Misty Mountains...and if i remember correctly, Gandalf expected all along that Moria would be the inevitable way. Was it not Aragorn who tried to take them over the mountain pass? Wasn't HE the one who wanted to avoid Moria?

True, yet I suppose the choice for Frodo to make the descision was done for a thematic element only, and for conservation of time.

I agree with you there Pil. I don't like how they made frodo choose in the Movie. it made it seem like it was Frodo fault that they had to go though the mines of Moria. in the book there is no other choice. they get snowed in and they can't continue but in the movie they made it seem like there was another choice and it made it seem like Frodo made the wrong decision once they were in the mines.

I have to agree. It makes Frodo feel like it's his fault Gandalf was taken by the Balrog.

Of course, they love their little Frodo.:cuddles: So they have to make him more important.

Well, if they wanted him to be more important, they should have made him bolder...stab that Balrog in the foot like he was supposed to! ("The hobbit's bite is deep!") (yes, the book is still fesh in my mind...I've passed Helm's Deep and am currently resting my feet in Isenguard, Book III. lol)

I know...it's soooooo mean! Poor frodo! It would have been much better to stick with the books. In the books it is ultimately Gandalf who makes the decision to go into Moria, and his decision to stand up to the balrog... Frodo had no major part in the decision making...he just came along doing what he was supposed to do, CARRY THE RING! He wasn't chosen....by fate anyway..........to be in fellowship because of his lore and experience in travelling and the paths of the wild. He had other qualitites that deemed him ring-bearer....not path-picker. :nono:

I read an interview with Ian Mckellen and they asked him. He said they wanted to show the gradual build up and realisation for frodo that he mus go alone.
They might say that but I also wish that they had kept it like the books! much better.

I didn't mind that change so much. The one that annoyed me the most (and still does) is where they have Lord Elrond basically saying that Aragorn had forsaken his birthright to be king when that was far from the truth.

Me too, I don't really mind.
And PJ needs to make people think that "Frodo is important! He the BOSSI" and not just another halfling!
And I also agree on the "making he thinks that it is his fault that Gandalf...uh...died". (But we all know that he is still alive, safe and sound somewhere, perhaps having brunch with Balrog... :naughty: )

I think it was sad... Because how he turns around and is crying after Gandalf falls into shadow... you can just hear him thinking,"Its all my fault" I wish he didn't have to choose either... but I did think it was cool that Frodo figured out the riddle instead of Gandalf at the walls of moria

Yeah, it shows Frodo's intellegence

actually i think it just show's how stupid gandalf is although that's just my opinion....the way he read it out put the emphasis on the word friend instead of speak which would be were most people would put it....

I couldn't agree with you more. That's what I've always thought. Aragorn didn't CHOOSE exile!!! He was working hard to get his kingdom back!!! Elrond is so unfair to him anyway, even in the books, "If my daughter must marry a mortal man it will be no less the the king of men"!! What is that?

ok I gotta admit sice I've only seen the movies I thought for a while it had been Frodo's fault thank you for openiong my mind and I was also confused about the whole exile part and I was "what did he do to get exiled?" but thanks for info on that too and I also liked how it was Frodo who figured it out and it was all good cause we got to see al the action at moria

Uh...I don't think Elrond's wrong...he is just doing what every father would do--trying to protect his daughter!
If Arwen is going to give up her immortality, how can her father just stand there and see her marry a "no one".
I know it's not fair, but I think it's normal for Elrond to have those terms. Personally I think Elrond is just waiting for him to claim his kingdom, and he'll let Arwen marry him after that.

Well thats exactly what he did do... it's just that I wouldn't like it if I was Arwen or Aragorn
