I have been talking to Tony Wolf (they guy who developed the fighting styles for the Movie). I have asked him if he is going to publish something about what he developed. He has been asked many times about this subject and feels that there is not enough interest to warrant the time and money to publish such a work.

I volunteered to do an informal poll so here's the question:

Would you buy a book by Tony Wolf that Detailed the fighting techniques he developed for LotR?

duuuuuuudee!! Count me in!!! Please tell Tony i'd get the book. I love the lord of the rings combat.

And i'm very glad that they even mentioned 'Fighting Styles' for such a movie. That's really cool that they viewed it as such.

Tell him i'll get it. Tell him to write it.

So far looks just you and me... not enough to print a book. I figgured there would be more enthusiasm here but maybe tony was right...

How about you copy this into "Other books" too? I'll welcome it in BTS as well...might get you some more attention! :)

I think this would make a great compliment to the "weapons and warfare" volume already in print and popular.

My suggest for the book would be lots of photos or illustrations of specific move patterns (though this does up print costs). Also a section on the difference between movie fighting and practical fighting (there are allot) and why movie style combat is what it is. With a little luck WETA would probably cooperate and dig some costumes out of the cuboard. ;)

Maybe try posting this on ToRN, should get responses there as well.

Awww man!!! You don't need a million fans to print a book. Tell him to make a Copy for me. Or even let me talk to him.

Also, I heard that there were videos of the Stunt Team sparring and stuff durning the Whole making of the Trilogy. Any of ya'll have any or know where i can find some?

Yes!!! Tell Tony to make that book!!! He's got skill!!

Well, it's hard to put a book into production (especially an image heavy one) without a good chance at high sales. Otherwise the price of the book goes... you guessed it - up.

I seem to remember some stunt footage on the extendeds.

I would definitely buy this book, especially if it has many illustrations and photos from the films, like the Chris Smith book. And ya if he wrote about practical fighting styles as well as stunt-fighting, that would be interesting.
And hey they would look great together on my bookshelf. :)

He has not actually written it yet, though he has been asked many times about such a project. He has said he would be open to doing it if the readership could be found to make worth not only his time but also New Line's. Since it was design work for thier movie, it is their decision anyway. Apparently they do not believe that there is enough interest in the subject...

How come New Line don't do a poll on their site then? I've seen Weta does this on their site!
