From the Book of Lost Tales: The Fall of Gondolin
But the others, led by one Legolas Greenleaf of the house of the Tree, who knew all that plain by day or by dark, and was night-sighted, made much speed over the vale for all their weariness, and halted only after a great march.
From Lord of the Ring: Durin's Folk
But when King Elessar gave up his life Legolas followed at last the desire of his heart and sailed over Sea.
So we have two Legolas, one a man (elf) that led the exiles of Gondolin and went over to Tol Eressėa and another elf who also went over the seas.
Che pensi tu?

Did it ever say that he went to Tol Eressea with them?
Do you know of any other mentions of Legolas between that last entry and his mention in LotR?
My only explantion is that he migrated with some of the unwilling Noldor...

If you're referring to the Legolas of Gondolin then:
From the Book of Lost Tales: The Fall of Gondolin
Legolas 'or Green-leaf was a man of the Tree, who led the exiles over Tumladin in the dark, being night-sighted, and he liveth still in Tol Eressėa named by the Eldar there Laiqalassė; but the book of Rśmil saith further hereon.'

I'm never surprised when I see this type of thing. Tolkien placed alot of emphasis on the re-emergence of names. I think it one of those things that adds to the historical flavor of the tale. Interesting about Legolas of the Tree. I forgot about that! You guys make me read too much ;) hahahaha

There are many other examples of reused names. For example Rumil of first age and Rumil brother of Haldir. There can be two Legolas in Tol Eressea.

Two Legolases? It could make for great confusion at dinner parties!
"So, I hear you can see really well in the dark."
"No. That would be the other one. I can shoot though..."
I think, in all seriousness, that JRRT would have changed Gondolin Legolas' name had he gotten round to it. (I vaguely recall Christopher Tolkien mentioning that somewhere...)
Also, Haldir is a re-used name itself - Haldir o Lorien in LoTR and a Man in the First Age... And there is the whole thorny Glorfindel debate, although I tend to go with the majority of fans, and accept that Glorfie of Third Age Rivendell is the re-embodiment of Glorfie of First Age Gondolin. Oh! And Lord Ecthelion of the Fountain (Gondolin Elf again) and the two stewards of Gondor... And...
Ok... I'll stop now...
