OK. Everybody's goin nuts over Elvish. Don't get me wrong, I love elves, and I can write the language, and speak some of it(not much though). Is Elvish the only language anyone can speak? I really want to learn how to speak Dwarven, to go along with the Angerthas I just learned how to use. I know that the Dwarves used some Sindarin techniques, but alas! I need to speak the language, so can someone give me a good site to go to? Thanks!

Well there's a lot more information for the elvish language, the dwarven used to be a secret language, it is said in the Silm (Ithink) that the dwarves prefer to learn elvish to communicate and not to let strangers know their language (there's some logic here, I have to admit)

yeah Tolkien didn't make any dwarven but a few names and a phrase From Appendix F
Few of other race have succeeded in learning it [the Dwarvish Tongue]. In this history it appears only in such place-names as Gimli revealed to his companions; and in the battle-cry which he uttered in the siege of the Hornburg. That at least was not secret, and had been heard on many a field since the world was young. Baruk Khazād! Khazād ai-menu! - Axes of the Dwarves! The Dwarves are upon you!
Gimli's own name, however, and the names of all his kin, are of Northern (Mannish) origin. Their own secret and - inner - names, their true names, the Dwarves have never revealed to any one of alien race. Not even on their tombs do they inscribe them.
However, for the movie some Dwarvish was interpolated. Gwaith has a bit about it... they translate some movie inscriptions here (http://www.elvish.org/gwaith/movie_otherinscr.htm#mazarbul).
some interesting stuff about the inscriptions on the walls in moria here (http://www.elvish.org/gwaith/movie_archives_3.htm#salo_khuzdul) and here (http://www.elvish.org/gwaith/movie_archives_3.htm#inane).
more stuff about the ruins here (http://www.elvish.org/gwaith/movie_archives.htm#eris) and here (http://www.elvish.org/gwaith/movie_archives.htm#morerunes).
below that is stuff about the book gandalf reads from, here (http://www.elvish.org/gwaith/movie_archives.htm#mazarbul).
Theres stuff about the dwarvish spoken here (http://www.elvish.org/gwaith/movie_fotr.htm#gimli). Translation of dwarvish soundtrack lyrics here (http://www.elvish.org/gwaith/movie_soundtrack.htm#abyss).
Apparently theres an inscrpition on the cave trolls weapon wich is analyzed here (http://www.elvish.org/gwaith/movie_inscriptions.htm#troll).
Lots of interesting stuff to be found here (http://www.elvish.org/gwaith/casa_loma.htm) which includes some dwarvish.

There's also a full article on Dwarvish here (http://www.uib.no/People/hnohf/khuzdul.htm).

And I think that's all I can come up with... some of the mods here might have something to add, though they mostly specialize in Elvish ;)

Well, Tar, that's more than I would have come up with! Like you said, I know Elvish. Since Dwarvish is so incomplete I never felt inclined to learn the few words that exist!

if you go to "for those who want to learn Elvish"(yes, It is in the language forum, duh, u knew that! lol) then there is a link for Ardalambion; they have links to mainly Elvish, but there is a link for Khuz-dul. not much there, but there's something!!

Does anyone here know Dwarvish? I know how to write the runes, and I know the complete alphabet, I learnt it from 'The Hobbit'. It was the most reliable way to learn how to write it. Seeing as there is no Dwarvish thread, here is one. Let's get it cracking! lol

Yup, there was a thread here already, though not many responses to it. ;)

You're welcome. If you read the first page, there's some links there about dwarvish. Perhaps they will have the info you're looking for. ;)

Aaah ... Dwarvish - my preciousss :ring: *grins* It's probably my second fave language (the first is Black Speech, didja expect anything else? :p) but unfortunately it's not described a lot :(. Sad thing - JRR should put in more Dwarvish  :gimli:. I mean, it's really cool lang and not a lot of people speak it so it's nice to go to them and start annoying them in dwarvish ... Hehe

Khazdad-ai menu!
Ishkhaqwi ai durugnul!

The second one is slightly better, at least when you talk to an older person ;)
