I have learnt the Dwarvish Language (writing runes) as noted in 'The Hobbit'. As I am sure many of you have. I have noted also, that on Glamdring, it appears to have some form of dwarvish inscribed in the hilt. The dwarvish has the same symbols as that of the ones in the hobbit, but the sybols have completely different meanings, when I tried to translate Glamdring into the Dwarvish as in 'The Hobbit' it made completely no sense at all.

Here is a list of the Dwarvish runes, as in 'The Hobbit'. They are correct, as I have double checked and translated from the book myself.

Glamdring
Turgon aran Gondolin tortha gar a matha
i vegil Glamdring gūd dae[dhe]lo[th], dam an Glamhoth

Which means...

'Glamdring
Turgon King [of] Gondolin wields, has and holds
[the] sword Glamdring, Foe [of] Morgoth's realm, hammer to [the] Din-horde'

And here is the Dwarvish as seen in 'The Hobbit'.

And another example, as seen on the map near the hand pointing into the Lonely Mountain.

The two languages are different, I am pondering whether this was due to the evolvement into the Cirith runes of Angerthas Daeron. Does anyone know what the exact situation is here?

I would really appreciate help. :)

Well, I think this difference is not really surprising: As far as I know, Glamdring was made in Gondoloin, in the First Age and Thror's Map was drawn in the third age. So thousands of years had passed between the creation of these items, meanwhile the languages might have changed a lot...

Thankyou for clarifying that for me! It is really appreciated! :)
