I would just like to say that I think a Hobbit Movie would be the S!@#!!! It definately needs to be made. I mean how can you have the Lord of the Rings Trilogy without having made the Hobbit. I really think that since they have already made set for LOTR they could re-use much of it for the Hobbit.... Now if I were given the choice I would tell Mr. Jackson if he really wanted to make some money he should make the Silmarillion. I have read the book many times and think that it is just as exciting as LOTR if not more! ;)

I agree with the Hobbit movie 100%:)
But for the Silmarillion....it would be hard to make a movie of it since theres not one main story line but MANY. BUT a TV show would work, like that show "Into The West"...that would make better sense for the Silmarillion ;)

You could make another set of movies from the silmarillion... I don't think TV is where it is at if you take my meaning. With all the money they spent on LOTR they should do the Hobbit. I will post more when I have time.. The wife is bugging me to go to the store....

Okay I'm back... So to get back to the subject.. There is no question in my mind that Peter Jackson should proceed with making of the Hobbit. As for the Silmarillion he should make that as well. Look how well George Lucas did with Star Wars and multiple movies. If you look at the LOTR movies and when Elrond had his flash back to the last alliance battle... Do you remember how awesome that was... Imagine seeing the making of Ea or the battles of the Valar and the Noldor against Morgoth. They have all the sets that they could use and the armor. I think it could even be better then the LORT Trilogy if done correctly. I don't think there has been a movie or a set of movies that has touched me as strong as the LOTR. After reading the Silmarillion, that could very well be the icing on the cake for Peter Jackson and all of the people that worked on the movie. I didn't see King Kong but I heard that, well you know, it was the same ole thing with the big ape... There are alot of legends that could stem from the Silmarillion with the Silmarils, the magical or mystical swords, the jewlery and work of the dwarves in those days... I mean it would be the beginning... **** people think that the LOTR was great, imagine how awesome it would be to see it all the way through from the very beginning.... Well enough of my rambling I have so much enthusiasim for the whole package ya know.... **** I even just bought "Ringil" from Arms of Valor.... I had to have it for my collection... If you haven't yet, read the book and imagine those stories being put to the silver screen. Of course you would have to run things together but it could work. Well I'm outta here for the night... peace out everyone...

Well, I would love to see any things done with the Silmarillian!! Trust me!! How awsome it will be to see the real battles go on!! I would also love to have all the action figures ;) *Now in stores, Beren with removable hand action* lol the only thing is, that such a great book would have to loose such wonderful materal for it to fit as a film...there probably would be a beginning like how there was on The Lord of the Rings....showing the Valar and the creation of the world and its dwellers....BUT like in LOTR, alot of things will have to be cut out inorder for some of the stories to be fully told...because you know that there isnt really one main stories...but several wonderful stories all told in one great book....maybe do it in parts...but lets be logical...thinking Movie wise...who will put alot of money that if you think about it, only the readers of the Book would want to watch? I know lots of people who just tried to read The SIlmarillian and said they couldnt understand it, too much like a text book...i guess a movie would benefit them...but they will loose all the goods that were kept out....Box office wise... i think it wouldnt be as popular....people will see it as "Oh PJ is just trying to get back the fame he had with LOTR"
Personaly, yes I would love to see it made!! But realisticly, it wouldnt be right, cant really work out....I could be wrong...just stating my oppion
Peace and Cheers

Yeah Gollum I see your point but they (movie goers) lost a lot from the books of the LOTR. I mean I just read the books again for the umteenth time and still it amazes me how much they left out of even the extended version. I know it would make the movie ten times longer but it would be worth it. **** they left out Tom Bombadil... He was a big part of the the Fellowship of the Ring... I think the Silmarillion could be done. I agree you couldn't fit everything in it but you would get the jist. I don't think people said that about George Lucas though when he made the next three movies.. "The beginning of Star Wars" ya know. **** it was the next best thing since sliced bread when we heard episode 1 was coming out. LOL! (Yeah I'm one of the kids who saw the originals when the first came out in the late 70's and 80's). Well lets agree to disagree. LOL Anyway, we atleast agree on one thing that he should make and that is the Hobbit. Even then, it will still be neat to see Gandalf and Bilbo again. And he should do it before the actors get to old....
Talk to you soon,
Fingolfin....

OH he has to keep the same cast for The Hobbit!! if not...TONS of angry people will be at his door!! And I think you and I will be in the front lol!! Now the 70's version of the Hobbit was GREAT!! BUT!! Lets get some more detail!! More of the stuff left out!!! Even that left out the Bear like guy..shoot haveing a BIG brain Fart.....AHH! you know who im talkin about ;) and i would LOVE to see how they do Smaug!! OMG that would be wonderfuL!! Just seeing what they did with Gollum!!! OMG Smaug would be KING of all!!!!
Fingolfin
February 16th,2006, 01:13 AM
Yes, Gollum I agree they should have more detail. The big bear guy your thinking of is Beorn. And yes he is someone who should be in the movie as well. I would really like to see the elven kindom in the mountain that was built by the dwarves.. Hell the whole movie would be awesome. Smaug would be a site to see. I really hope it comes to pass. I think all of us fanatics of LOTR would be very disappointed if PJ did not make the movie and/or use the same characters.

February 16th,2006, 02:06 AM
Beorn!! Thanks :) PJ could almost play the part...being if he wasnt so short....alls i know is that he is in the making of a Halo movie I belive...drop that and come back to Middle Earth I say!!! hobbits, dwarves, dragons, wizards, and evles are better than a video game!!! GEEKS SHALL RULE THE WORLD!! lol
Oh man....i wonder how they will do Riddles in the Dark?...It would be cool if there were to be some kinda flash thing where Bilbo sees how he will explane the story of how he got the ring by "winning it"...since Tolkien orginally wrote the book that way ;) now that would be a little tid bit to add unlike the unneeded crap PJ put into LOTR... but i belive thats a different topic... lol trying to say to this one this time
Peace to ya

Yeah I think "Riddles in the Dark" would be rather easy to do in a film. It would definately have to be a flash back and they could always do it in more detail when they come out with the extended version....
PJ is doing a Comic Book movie??? O'Lord.. He we go again.... Another FLOP! I agree with you.. Come Back to Middle Earth PJ... Your fans are waiting.... (Can you tell I jump around alot... HAHA!)
There is so much that could be done with the movie I just hope he put as much into it as he did with the other three. I'm so sick of these film makers going off and doing stupid movies like this Halo thing... or THE FANTASTIC FOUR!! YAY!!! I GOT MAIL!!!! lol Anyway, lets get back to the real money makers ya know? I wouldn't call us GEEKS... I would say more like Romantics... If ever there was a time I could go back to it would be the middle ages and become a knight and fight in battle... Hell maybe it's in my celtic blood but it has always been a strong feeling of mine. I really hope the movie is made. The Hobbit would be the icing on the cake for me... but like I said before.... The Silmarillion... Well that would just be second dessert for me... Have a good one! I'm going to go have some ale! and yes.. They have pints!

Heck yes!! Ay, tis celtic blood in my veins as well...Feels at home reading Tolkiens books....if you ask me...I think that he made the Shire almost like either early Ireland or Scotland ;) such a beautiful place... Back to subject
there are rumars that Allen Lee (i believe) the artist from the LOTR was asked if he thought the Hobbit might take place...to which he said something like "its not a matter if, but when" its a shame The Hobbit wasnt done earlier... but, going back to the Star Wars thing...that didnt effect it when they went back even further to tell how Darth Vador came about...so why would it be different with how Bilbo got the ring and his tail of its jurney to the Shire....
If PJ doesnt make the move...I will....get my action figures together....yes... might work....lol

I can totally see the Hobbit on the big screen, but not the Sil. That book is a hard read to begin with. Too much stuff going on to make into a movie that most people will have not a clue as to what is going on. Just because the LOTR trilogy was popular doesn't mean that Sil will be. I think most people and I'm talking the general public not die hard fans; will not be into the Sil.
Just my 2 cents
Personally I think it would be awesome to see both of them made into movies. We will just have to wait and see. :)

YES...my point exactally

February 18th,2006, 12:06 AM
Okay here we go again... LOL... Like I said before... The Silmarillion would be awesome.. It was a suggestion I had... LOL If you have read the Sil you know that it is difficult to read. I've read it numerous times and each time I learn something new. There is alot of info and yes it would be hard to make but.. It they can make the TEN COMMANDMENTS they can make The Sil. I mean **** lets keep a good thing going. LOL There are a lot of stories rolled into one book. If you've read the LOTR trilogy there are alot of stories there too. To much for a movie to be made right. (Being Sarcastic)
Anywho, I just think that it should be done. All I know is The Hobbit needs to come out next. It would be folly not to make it! As for the Sil... well it's a hope and a dream that I have....

Oh a Sil. Movie would be wonderful!! but the only ones to understand its beauty and its story line would indeed be the ones who read it...personally i would love to see it made, but it would be only for the readers really...and maybe some who saw the LOTR and was thinking about reading the book and desided to watch the movie to get a feel for it...only the Tolkien romantics would enjoy

Well....even The Ten Commandments as you mentioned was just one part of the the story and it worked well! Can you imagine them trying to do the Bible? A full hour of begats! :lmao:
So...along those lines, I could very well see a "Sil based movie" being made....for example...."Of Beren and Luthien"...or even "Feanor and the Silmarils"....orrrrrrrr...."The Black Sword"....oh so many to choose from!
To me that would be quite a bit more feasable....so yea....pick a story, make the movie! :p
But there is no doubt iin my military mind that The Hobbit will be made sooner rather than later....

OK hands up if you know someone in the film industry that you can bribe to make a sil based movie...
*looks at the awkward expressions*
hmmm... we will have to work on that then. I'd love to see some sil based movies. I mean, why stop at one??!

If there was to be a movie about all of the Silmarillian...there would be no choice but it to be more than one film....*Tolkien Geek raises hand for sil movie*...lets face it...all of WOTR members would prob. love to see a Sil movie...add a couple more hard core Tolkien fans and that would mostly be it... now some Tolkien fans didnt and wont see LOTR...because they feel it was of unjustice to the book and Tolkien himself....
 SOOOO...probably be some independent film company would make a series.... probably be able to catch it on some channel...and buy the VHS in selected stores....
BUT point is...if there were to be a Sil film...you can count on this Geek to see it:grin:

You guys are awesome! I love to hear everyones comments they are so interesting... About bribing someone.. Well why don't we just kidnap PJ and hold him hostage until he makes it! LOL! Just kidding... HEHEHE... I don't think I would trust anyone else to make the movie after seeing what he did with the LOTR trilogy.... Now for those people who won't see the LOTR movies well they are just plain silly... You can't compare them... Hell everyone knows that a book is always better than a movie except for maybe the Matrix... LOL... I don't think there was a Matrix book.... Anyway, PJ did one heck of a job with the movies I thought... I mean with the time he had and what he had to put in it I thought it was wonderful.. There were a lot of things left out that I thought were important (i.e. Tom Bombardil, the Shire battle at the end of the story etc...) but it was a great ride and I'm sure all of you would agree... Now lets see the Hobbit... Then maybe, we can talk about the Sil... ya know... I think it would be awesome because you wouldn't have to make it to soon because of the actors ages and such... Those people could play small parts if they are around still "if it is ever made"... I think Elrond, Galadriel, Celegorm and Gandalf would be the only ones you would need + or minus a few.... Anyways enough of my babling..... Have a wonderful night everyone....
One more post before the night has come to an end.... O mighty Illuvatar, you are so right about the "Begats".....and I "for sure" don't think I could take the part of the naming of the rivers, there location, which way the flow... if it were put to the big screen I would have to bring my pillow ... LMAO!! I do agree with you that they could pick a few of the stories... The march of the Noldor, The battle of the Valor against Morgoth and definately Beren and Luthien.... O' can't forget my jaunt into the black land to challenge the dark lord as well ... Ringil sung that day!!! Well before I go off about that my wife wants her back rubbed... Don't want to be left out in the cold... See you all later!
