I know its a little early but what they hey.

We all know that the fellowship poster is amazing (just look on the cover of your dvd/video:thumbs: ) And the two towers one is quite cool but what do you guys think should they slap on the ROTK poster.
I'm thinking something like Mount Doom :flamer: :flamer:

How about this?:

Mt. Doom, with a crown encircling it. Amd maybe everyone's heads floating around in some order.

The White Tower, Minas Tirith

TheRingBearer

I reckon Gollum should be on it somewhere or at least a hint of him cause by the end of TTT, the audience will at least have seen him.

Lady Ashley
September 15th,2002, 09:54 PM
Certainly! And Minas Tirith will certainly be on it too.

'Course, I really have no idea. My boomark for the book I made is the White Tree, the Crown, and the Seven Stars.

Heehee My TTT bookmark has the two towers and the Ring with a red Eye staring up at it.

i think it should have mt doom with the one ring over it (big enough so we can see all the tengwar).....the colours should be black and red

TheRingBearer
September 16th,2002, 07:46 PM
Yeah like a big smoke cloud above Mount Doom, exceot its the ring.

I have a feeling the theatrical poster's going to be a bunch of floating heads (For both RotK AND TTT), but the teaser poster should be interesting (eg fellowship had the Argonath, TTT had, well, the two towers, etc).

I'm with Bonos-Girl, Orodruin & the ring should be prominent. I think it would be cool to show Frodo and Sam at the top of Cirith Ungol looking out over Mordor with Mount Doom and Barad-Dur in the distance at the bottom of the poster, with the top dominated by the Eye of Sauron and, of course, the Ring.

Just me 2 cents. :)

I think it should have Mount Doom burning, with the ring over it, and Frodo and Sam somewhere... maybe a pic of them climbing Mount Doom... and the somewhere in the corner should have a pic of Aragorn or The White city... awww I dunno there are too many possibilities! let those who are experts decide! lol

TheRingBearer
September 17th,2002, 07:33 PM
Oh yeh I agree with orkybash. Habing Frodo and Sam looking out over Mordor, kinda like at the ed of fellowship would be great.

Orkybash
September 17th,2002, 09:06 PM
Only at the end of the Fellowship they're looking out over Emyn Muil with Mordor in the distance. Here they would just be starting their descent into Mordor its self!

*gets self hyped up for RotK again...*

TheRingBearer
September 18th,2002, 05:04 PM
Oh yeah that's what I meant. Have a near exact same shot except they are looking out over Mordor not the Emyn Muil ;)

Minas Tirith as it appeared in FOTR. Have you seen the new cover for ROTK that is a large paperback?

Daughter of Finarfin
September 19th,2002, 05:11 AM
I have the (non-movie) edition that has Rivendell, then Orthanc, then Minas Tirith. Most editions of ROTK seem to have Minas Tirith on the cover, which is why I think it will be on the movie poster. They seem to be going with locations for the teaser posters.

Narsil's weilder

Yeah. I didn't even notcie Minas Tirith in FOTR until I saw it again on DVD.

Orkybash
September 20th,2002, 02:16 AM
heh... funny how on the DVD Minas Tirith looks *exactly* like the cover of my RotK. And the same could be said for Orthanc, actually.

Guess that's what happens when you get the two best-known Tolkien artists on the project. :)

actually, the fellowship teaser was Frodo holding the ring, the one with the argonath came out at the same time as the good one with all of their heads, and has the actors names down the bottom, a no no for teasers.
for the ROTK poster, I think it should be a full body shot of Frodo and Sam standing on a rock ledge or something with wind blowing their hair, and then all of the main casts faces circulating that (like the FotR one) albeit with new and improved images.

TheRingBearer
September 20th,2002, 07:22 PM
That's quite a good idea LD :)

TheRingBearer

lol That might give just a bit away ;)

Yeah, that would tick me off. How about Aragon at the Gates of Mordor facing the Mouth of Sauron!

Undomiel
September 25th,2002, 04:38 PM
ooo yeah that would be so gud. Or a sweeping shot of the battle of the Pelennor Fields. Or a picture of the Morannon on it's own. Or Gandalf at the Gates of Minas Tirith about to face the witch king. O so many ideas. I mean Shelob's gonna be in that movie now. It could be her eyes peering out of the dark or something.

Pil
September 27th,2002, 11:23 AM
I definitely think shelob should have a rominent role in the poster. :)

TheRingBearer
September 27th,2002, 06:44 PM
Yeah, since they have delayed her appearence its the least they can do :)

I hope she's scary...i read that bit of rotk in the dark with a tiny torch and i was soooo freaked out...:elfeek:...i wanna see people curled up with their popcorn...hiding behind their coke... :o lol

Bonos-Girl

that would be soooo cool.

But Shelob was really in the Two Towers. The book ends with Sam discovering that Frodo wasn't really dead after Shelob's attack. Does this mean PJ is putting off the introduction of this 'til ROTK?

Mirkgirl
October 6th,2002, 02:40 PM
thats what most spoilers say and it's logical as nothing much happens in RotK compared to TTT

Loravarnion Darkstone
October 7th,2002, 07:17 AM
it wouldn't give too much away, look at the fotr poster it gave nothing away!
all of those other ones of the pelenor fields or whatever would be good for teasers but not theatrical posters, especially if you want the poster to keep in conjunction with the other.

How about a great litho of The Witch King commanding the thrust of Grond!

Sauron
November 14th,2002, 12:28 AM
I think it would be in tune with Fotr and TT's posters, with faces. Though I would love one with Mt. Doom center, Shelob's eyes in the bottom right, Aragorn at the entrance of the POTD in the bottom left, Frodo and Sam in top left, and finally Gandalf with Pippin on back with Shadowfax running at top speed in top right

how can you not miss it. oh back to the question i think on the poster it should be Aragorn leading the Army of the West and in the backround should be the black gates of Mordor

How about Aragon, Pippin, and Gandlaf surrounded by the armies of Sauron at the black gates with Frodo holding the ring at the top watching over them.

I'm thinking Minas Tirith and Mt Doom on the poster: with in say MT toward the bottom left corner and MD toward the Top right (layout like the first TTT poster with the 2 towers on it). I like the contrast of beauty and light with darkenss and evil. In the dead centre is Aragorn's face, next two largest faces would be a very troubled Frodo and Gandalf; then Eowyn, Faramir, Merry, Pippin, Sam, Legolas, Gimli gollum... oh I guess Arwen has to be there and she'll probably be as big as Aragorn or something stupid like that. Sheelob should be looking menacing in a corner somewhere or maybe just a tantalising glimpse of a few legs and eyes coming out of the darkness of the mtdoom photo; and a Nazgul on a fell beast flying down from the top left corner
I suppose they could have Eowyn killing the witchking (but probably not since she's dressed as Dernhelm it might be too confusing for the audience unless she's big enough to see the face aswell as hair). An Eowyn action shot would be cool, as would a Faramir action shot.

Superimposed (and faint), across the bottom half-right should be a wide shot of the Battle of Pellenor Fields or the Army of West at the Black Gates (I prefer the former)
Maybe minor, faint, shots of Theoden on Snowmane, Eomer, and elf of the month. Actually speaking of elves Legolas (as much as I hate to say it) and Gimli should probably be also minor figures.

A second option would be a simple poster to parallel the one of Frodo holding the ring for FOTR, where Aragorn is standing face forward, crowned (glowing brightly), wearing his mantle, and either holding the Narsil or carrying it like an offering, and in the background you can faintly see his banner flying - Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King December 17, 2003.

Your first seemed to complicated like a photshopped fan poster.

It was thinking of something along the lines of the main poster for FOTR, which had similar elements. It might be the way I explained it (I didn't do a good job of that), many of the elements would be faint background only a few would have promenance.

TheRingBearer

In a very old poster for TT that I've got, the nazgul are at the top of it on the fell beasts. Unfortunatly I can't find this poster anywhere on the net :(

oooo and bad me said Narsil not Anduril  ooops. I blame it on this Summer cold I've picked up :shhh:

So TRB that seems like we really will get to see the nazgul + winged beasts inTTT. Excellent. Hope it's more than a quick glimpse far off in the sky.

I await Shelob with great anticipation. Perhaps a good teaser poster would be simply black, except for Shelob's eyes, and somewhere on the poster (maybe the top, opposite the title which would probably be at the bottom) the caption, 'We could let Her deal with them...'. The 'Her' could be in a different font, creepier....

Stickman
December 19th,2002, 04:39 AM
I think it would be really cool if it showed something of Eowyn vs the Witch-King, but then it would ruin the surprise about Dernhelm.
How about the Black Gate begining to open, with Mouth of Sauron somewhere in the shot. This could be from behind Gandalf and Aragorn.
"The Black Gate Opens, December 16th"

TheRingBearer

Great tagline Stickman. Having the black gates on the poster would be a great idea, kinda like on the TTT poster where the bottom half is filled with Saruman's army.

i wanna see how they perceive the Grey Heavens... Rivendell and Lothlorien were truly splendidly done

A teaser poster I would love would be Aragon's arm reaching up holding Narsil.

Wait, the theme is Return Of The King, right?

Then I guess that your suggestion is one most correct, then...

Aragorn holding his sword...

Lord of the Nazgul

I think it should be Sam, Frodo, and Gollum scaling Mt. Doom and then have like Aragorn and Denethor and Theoden in the background...or something like that. The main theme should at least be Mt. Doom.:flamer:
