is it true that PJ is gonna make the hobbit into a film after LOTR? how would that work do u think? I think that if they did do it it wud be best to try and get the same actors from LOTR - gollum, gandalf, bilbo and elrond - is there anymore that appear in both books?

I doubt it. But if he makes it Bilbo must be younger.

In the latest fanclub magazine PJ says he might consider it after a long break making some other movies. But he says maybe he would rather see womeone else make it so he coul denjoy it as just a movie.
There is a good interview in this one.

I think Peter should make the Hobbit into a film himself. Since he has all the LOTR experience now.
Yet if someone else were to direct The Hobbit through New Line Cinema, they still has all the costumes, weapons, set pieces, CGI effects, and all the other conceptual artwork/ideas from WETA.
So I suppose if the right filmmaker adapted The Hobbit to film isn't such a bad idea.

i think that they shouldn't.....look at what happened to star wars!!! if they decided to then they should keep the same actors...there is such a thing as make-up.....

Yeah, I read about it to. Personally, I think bringing Smaug to life would be worth it! Plus, as as avid LOTR collector ... I need it to fill out the collection ... along with a certain other adaptation concerning the history of the Elves ... hmmm .... ;)

If LotR were Star Wars, we'd be seing such things as:
Gandalf: "You must leave, and leave quickly!"
Frodo: "But Gandalf, I wanted to go to the tashi station to pick up some power converters!"

Yeah, Smaug would look great. Just imagine Reign of Fire but not as scary and a bit more golden

From what angle would they shoot the battle of 5 armies? What age range would it be aimed at?

I'm not saying i don't like star wars but episodes 1 and 2 were a big dissapointment compared to the trilogy

well you gotta think, like Eowyn said the Hobbit isn't star wars. no where near. And the only reason prequel star wars, imo, wasn't as good as the original was because they didn't get good enough actors and there wasn't a story that they were making a movie off of. None of the prequel books that went with the movie came out until a few monthes before the episodes came out.
Its hard to go wrong with a book thats written and all you have to do is adapt it into a screenplay than to have to basically make a screenplay and then a book.
At least thats my two cents but then look what happened with Jurassic Park and the Lost World, the books are so much different from the movies.

exactly.......even fotr was quite different. it would probably ruin the book for the people that hadn't read it when they saw the film.

true! but its still a good film and it didn't ruin the fotr

i guess not..but some people who hadn't read lotr yet now feel that they don't have to coz there are films. I guess thats how a lot of people feel about Romeo and Juliet too...there are really good films so they don't have to read the play.

Me and a fellow "War of the Ring" member are currently working on a script for "The Hobbit".
And even as easy as it sounds, adapting the book into a screenplay, we are finding it quite hard and yes we have had to mix with things a bit.

Mr Underhill, are you going to make it into a "real" movie - like in theatres? That'd be awesome. But i really hope PJ does the Hobbit. He did such an excellent job with The Lord of the Rings and the hobbit just wouldn't be the same if it had a different Gandalf and different Elrond. It would be too different and dissappointing if someone else did it and it didn't come out as good as Lord of the Rings. :(
Please PJ!!!!!!!!!!!!

The whole reason would be: RIDDLES IN THE DARK!!! So damn exciting!
