If you could have any of the swords from all of Tolkien's stories, which one would you get.
Mine: the sword Fingolfin used to cut up Morgoth, Ringil

Sorry, but with all the other weapons to chose from, like Gurthang, Angrist, Anguirel, and Anglachel and some others that escape me now, Sting seems rather plain.

ang- elven for iron
Tuor's axe Dramborleg, too

I think the extended will be somewhat dissapointing b/c it won't have everything we are expecting, I think we would have to watch every piece of film shot to see more of what we want

Not quite a sword but I want Legolas's bow. Either one, the Mirkwood one is cool but so is the Lothlorien bow.

They're coming out with replicas of some of the swords. I just hope they eventually come out with a replica of at least one of Legolas's bows. That would be awesome.

I hate to say this, but don't hold you breath on a replica of Legolas' bow. I know that United Cutlery who is making the majority of the licensed swords, is only licensed to make swords. I'm not sure what the Noble collection is licensed for as they have sting, gimli's axe and plenty of jewlrey, so they just might carry it at some point, but I wouldn't count on it.

Neva mind!

My choice would be Glamdring. I would love to find out more about its history...sooo cool! :battle:

A bit late to join in perhaps, but my first choice would be Hadhafang, Throng-cleaver. As far as curved blades go it is exquisite! Just to hold in your hands the sword that Elrond fought with in the Second Age and Arwen held at the Fords - I think it's the most attractive sword in the film.

I also like that trident looking Dwarvish spear Aragorn used to skewer the Cave-Troll. It really was the only weapon that seemed to stop him in his tracks on its own, so it definitely possesses some strength.

I'm guessing that there are several reasons behind this...

1) Untied Cutlery who makes the majority of the swords are knife and sword smiths rather than boyers and fletchers. Completly different skill set.

2) No one to my knowledge has approached New Line as being interested in making Legolas' bow.

3) There is only one bow of any significance in the movie, rather than a whole bunch of swords. A Boyer would probably only end up with one product that they could sell rather than an entire line of swords.

4) Legal issues. The swords are sold as display items rather than as weapons. There aren't many local, state, or federal regulations regarding the sale of knives (and presumably) swords. I think that a bow would be classified as a weapon (yea, yea, I know, swords are weapons to. But don't push the issue with your local government or you might just end up having to be 18 to buy a sword...). Arround here you cannot even purchase a BB gun without being 18, but you can walk into any store and pick up any big horking knife that you want. I'm not sure on bows, but I'm guessing that the same applies. There are probably local, state and federal regulations governing their use and sale, especially shipping across state lines etc. I'm not sure but think it's illegal to sell firearms via mail (i.e. ship across state lines).

Why are bows qualified as weapons? My guess - they are used for hunting, and are therefore regulated. You don't hunt with swords, and very few if any assults are commited to generate enough attention to get a lot of laws created restricting their sale / use.

So, if you have a sword, don't go running around hacking up your neighbors as you'll screw things up for the rest of us. :p

There is Legolas's bow out or atleast a Elven bow, it's at http://armsofvalour.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=AOVL&Category_Code=LR

It includes 6 arrows.

I'd have Anduril.

It is quite dear but if you went to a shop it would be more than likely that it would cost more. The swords and daggers are quite good prices.

December 11th,2002, 04:17 AM
That's cool.

Of what's available to buy, I'd say Hadhafang would be my 1st choice, unless they make the sword that Haldir uses or the short-spear thing the prologue elves use.

Just from the books, I'd say Gurthang(Anglachel).

I'm really close to buying one of these two swords, the sword Aragorn uses in FOTR and TTT or Narsil.
At first I wanted to buy Narsil, i would love to know all the history of it and the design is just fantastic, but Striders sword is also very nice, i think a bit more classic. One of those swords will definitely be it, but can anyone help me make the decision?
