"Halls of Fire" (working title, but the more I think of it, the more I like it...) is a new Tolkien-inspired 'online CD' (meaning no purchase necessary, and available form one page) that I am working towards. I currently have two tracks, and am working on the third.

The tracks are currently (track order tbd):

The Grey Havens
Flight to the Ford (working title. Could also be Ride of the Rohirrim, but I want something a but more 'horsey' for that)
Raid on the Pony (currently being worked on)

You can get updates and listen to what is currently on the 'CD', and just generally keep up-to-date with its progress, by checking my homepage on Deviant Art. I am searching for a good free webhost where I can host the entire CD, and when I have one, I'll let you all know the link. I'm trying to advertise this one as much as possible, as I'm hoping it'll help me get a foot in the door with musical compositions.

My DA page is: http://elfdaughter.deviantart.com/
The Grey Havens can be heard here: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/50537602/
and Flight to the Ford can be heard here: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/50538897/

Ideas for remaining tracks (may or may not be done - ideas only. No particular order):

*Lay of Luthien - vague possibility.
-Raid on the Pony - Underway, not happy with some parts, and a bit short...
*Concerning Hobbits - need to sketch some ideas down
*The Nine -
*Finding of the Ring of Power
*Moria
+The Elves - completed long ago, wondering if I should include it with this CD. Why not!
*Ride of the Rohirrim
*Cormallen Fields
+Riddles in the Dark - completed long ago, not the best quality, but including it as a bonus track.
*Minas Tirith
*The Entmoot

Huh. Lots to do. Lots to compose. This is going to take some time....

There's some nice work there.

The choral interplay is nice on the first track, but if I'm allowed a critique I found it a tad heavy when it first comes in. :)

Flight to the Ford is just excellent, the rhythmic quality is quite invigorating, while the floating soprano line does a nice job of keeping the track from getting muddy with all the midrange stuff that's happening.

Thanks IHD! I need critique like that! :D

Hmm, mebbe I should take out that first vocal and pop an alto in there instead.

OK, more tracks:

Raid on the Pony - not entirely happy with it. Still, I think the sense of 'danger within an otherwise happy environment' comes across well. And the raid part, I'm quite happy with.

The Fellowship Sets Forth.

Perhaps a bit chirpy? http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/50710704/

Ah, last.fm good choice.

The new tracks are sounding good.

Again if I'm allowed a few comments (I'm rather infamous for this sort of stuff I'm afraid.... ;))

On 'Pony' I think it'd be interesting to try leaving the cello line out until it hits the sustained bass notes. Which I guess is about 20 seconds in. I love the flute (is it flute?) line and the piano and I think both of those would work well layered and then the cello line would be a great way to introduce the next theme (def. keep the piano+violin trans, it sounds fantastic :)). The more martial section is great.

'Fellowship', hmmm.... don't know what to say. I like allot of the ideas, but it doesn't feel quite fluid yet. If that makes sense?

Hope I'm not being to critical. :p This really is some fantastic material.

Like I say, IHD, constructive crit is always welcome. This is exactly the sort of feedback I need! :D

Hmm, that's an idea for Pony. That could be what's been bothering me about the track.

Yeah, that makes sense! I think I need to get right down deep into that and play with the loop endings a bit more, see if I can stitch it together a bit better. There needs a little something under it, definately.
