Sting, Lordly or not so Lordly

Was Sting a common weapon or the knife of an Elflord.

Sting was unnamed before Bilbo (?)

Sting was found with Glamdring and Orcrist (which had names before the Company found them)

Was Sting's sharpness and other attributes common to 1st Age weapons or was it unique like Glamdring and Orcrist

i think it was probably in between somewhere because although it didn't have a special name before bilbo I find it hard to believe that all 1st age swords had htese special properties
