Sad but he saves Middle Earth! In the trailer for TTT Galadriel says on the lines of: 'The quest will claim his life'.

September 19th,2002, 03:35 AM
Well, they did say the ending of ROTK "would make us weep."

After the departure of Aragorn and such...Poor Frodo.

Lynx
September 19th,2002, 03:43 AM
Are you sure he dies because I've read that he gets in a boat with Elrond, Gandalf, Galadrial and some other people and they sail across the sea because the elves are leaving or something of the sort.

"Then Frodo kissed Merry and Pippin, and the last of all Sam, and went aboard; and the sails were drawn up and the wind blew, and slowly the ship slipped away down the long grey firth; and the light of the glass of Galadriel that Frodo bore glimmered and was lost."

Are they going to kill him off in the movie or something of the sort?

Tar-Ancalimë

Lynx
September 19th,2002, 03:59 AM

Galadriel14
September 19th,2002, 07:35 PM
All the suffering of it was in vain. And he didn't save Midle-Earth, he wanted to be with the ring. In fact Gollum save Midle-Earth. If he didn't fall down into the fire of mount doom, everything would be ruined. The end of the movie should be very, very sad.

I read it on page 335, but I'm portuguese and I have the portuguese version, I don't know if the pages are the same

Catz
September 19th,2002, 07:39 PM
of what Galadriel? the book The Lord of the Rings?
if so that s OK.....i dont know what your translation says but rest assured that in the original English version Frodo does NOT die.....he and Bilbo sail to Valinor with Gandalf, Galadriel and Elrond........
and yeah Frodo does fall to temptation at the last, but thats one of the best parts of the ending...that Gollum, in spite of being ruined, still saves ME
:catz:

Galadriel14
September 19th,2002, 07:43 PM
Of course, but I don't know if they kill in the film. I hope not! :mmmm:

Galadriel14
September 19th,2002, 07:49 PM
Well, in my version, the light of galadriel loses his bright and he beggins to see ''heaven'' . I think this means that he's dying.

Catz
September 19th,2002, 07:49 PM
ok....well part of the reason for the confusion is that this is the Movie forum.......so everyone thought you were talking about the movie....this thread should really be in the Books forum ok? so ill arrange to have it moved there...
and no....i dont think theyll kill off the main character in the movie after three years.....people would put out contracts on them lol
:catz:

Galadriel14
September 19th,2002, 07:57 PM
But the final would be more exciting if he dies. when I wrote that he was going to die in the end, I was thinking about the movie not in the book. They have to follow the film by the books. :read:

Catz
September 19th,2002, 08:01 PM
ummm no they dont.....and a lot of folk would argue that......i think the ringbearer being unable to stay in the place he gave everything up to save is a great ending....
and yeah tho it relates to the movie, you are talking about the book here
:catz:

TheRingBearer

As long as they show what actually happens at Mount Doom then I'll be half happy.

Galadriel14
September 19th,2002, 08:13 PM
I also heard some rumors that he is really going to die. I'ts true that it would make a great ending but is extremely unfear. For all who love Frodo like me, don't be sad! Be happy! It's not the end of the world!

Undomiel
September 19th,2002, 08:23 PM
that thing in the trailer that Galadriel says about the quest claiming his life-i dont think it's a prediction, it's her opinion. either that or it's meant to be metaphorical in that he wont get his old life back.
i'm sure this wont happen, spesh seeing as there was a spoiler that Ian Holm sed about him and Frodo sailing away.

Galadriel14
September 19th,2002, 09:00 PM
Well, her mirror can see the future...

A! Elbereth
September 19th,2002, 11:31 PM
Galadriel, if the book you are reading has Frodo die... then it is not the book, it is a faulty copy... because that is not how the story ends. You scared me so bad... oh you frightened me beyond measurement... does this mean that it was all just a misunderstanding?

TheRingBearer
September 20th,2002, 12:23 AM
Yeah, don't do that. You nearly gave me a heart attack lol

Tar-Ancalimë
September 20th,2002, 04:36 AM
yeah. thats not too nice.

but next time at least post it in the movie section or something. cause either you cant read or your books wrong. frodo goes to valinor and there he probably eventually dies.

and im just repeating everything everyone else said, huh? anyway i understand you might have thought that and thats cool but let us disabuse you of the notion now...

Catz
September 20th,2002, 06:17 AM
ok come on you lot.....give the girl a break...shes not a native English speaker and im sure shes doing her best here....Galadriel, please excuse everyone, but you REALLY worried a lot of people here, ok?lol roflmao lol
But were all cleared up now....but it does bring to mind an interesting issue...that of translations and whether or not they are anything like the originals....but thats not this thread ;)
Galadriel, heve you read the English version of the book? that might be interesting if you could manage it...comparing the two
:catz:

Tar-Ancalimë
September 20th,2002, 06:34 AM
Oh yes Galadriel I do apologize if I offended you. I didn't mean too. Really.

Yes and you seem to be proficient in English. I would definately read the English version if I were you. I read it in French and they seemed to change a lot.

Lynx
September 20th,2002, 12:44 PM
well now that we got that cleared up, I can rest easy. Galadriel, you had me worried there for a while but its all okay. :-)

September 20th,2002, 06:32 PM
Hey! I speak very well English! But, well this is just what I think, you can think whatever you want. I think he's gonna dye and that's it! And my book, it's the original. :p

Galadriel14
September 20th,2002, 06:41 PM
And you didn't offend me AT ALL! I don't know if the story is the same but I really hope that he keeps alive!!!!!!!!!!! I'm BIG fan of Frodo!!!! ;) lol ;) lol ;) lol ;) lol

TheRingBearer
September 20th,2002, 07:25 PM
That's ok Galadriel I don't mind cause I know he doesn't die!! If PJ does kill him in the ROTK film then I will officially apologise to you lol

Galadriel14
September 20th,2002, 07:28 PM
But, in your version he loses his finger doesn't he?

Tar-Ancalimë
September 20th,2002, 08:32 PM
um yes actually I said your English was good. Sorry if it didn't come across that way. i also think you should read the english book.

Yes he loses his finger. gollum bites it off. and im sure frodo isnt immortal, that he does die in valinor. but i hope they don't show that in the movie.

I'm glad to know I didn't offend you. It's just that you had us all panicking. :)

Galadriel14
September 20th,2002, 08:39 PM
Dont' worry! When I read that he was going to die I almost have a heart attack!!! I couldn't sleep the night after!! I was shocked!!!!! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

TheRingBearer

Yeah, Gollum bites it off and then stumbles and falls into the cracks of doom.

A! Elbereth
October 2nd,2002, 01:57 AM
But I'm curious... in which chapter does it say he dies???

Lynx
October 2nd,2002, 03:29 AM
well if I remember correctly but then I don't know if I do, doesn't he almost die at some point but doesn't really die or sam ends up saving him or something of the sort?

I don't remember exactly. But hey, i'm rereading so its all good.

Firith Evenstar
October 2nd,2002, 04:11 AM
....the only way he dies in the book is metaphorically. lol he doen't die physically.

that does raise an interesting question..i think i'll post about it now...

Lynx
October 2nd,2002, 05:21 AM
okay. thanks for clearing that up. :)

I don't even necessarily agree that he dies metaphorically in the book either. To me, what is clear is that Frodo arrives at a place where he received healing both in mind and body (minus the missing finger, of course).

TheRingBearer
October 2nd,2002, 06:58 PM
Yeah, he just has 'died' in the Shire. He cannot be happy and live their anymore so he goes to the Havens. Such a shame considering he fought to save it :(

Actually, I have read both version French and English and don't worry, Frodo does not die at the end since he leaves Middle-Earth with Elrond, Galadriel, Celeborn, etc...:)

And for interpretation, I totally agree with you RingBearer...

You are right...there's a moment where Sam becomes the Second Ring Bearer because he truly believes that Frodo is dead but he is only badly wounded...

A! Elbereth
October 2nd,2002, 10:51 PM
Yes... if that is what you were talking about Galadriel 14... I do believe the book ends with Frodo still alive sailing from The Grey Havens... I mean, Frodo could not have been dead if he went aboard a ship. lol ;)

Galadriel14
October 3rd,2002, 05:49 PM
I don't know. lets wait untill the movie! :)

Frodo's Love
November 16th,2002, 09:44 AM
If Frodo would die at the end of ROTK, the movie-makers would destroy the whole world of Tolkien! The light that is fading away at the end of the book is, as far as I concern, what Sam sees while watching the ship pass... But hope isn't lost ...and I also think that Frodo will not die at the end of ROTK.

A! Elbereth
November 16th,2002, 10:00 PM
I'm still confused at this misunderstanding... would you quote the part in the book that says this?

Mirkgirl
November 17th,2002, 04:08 AM
A!E it is just a rumor, caused by a litle misunderstanding in the Portugese translation of LotR (or as much I understood). This is where the "LotR translations" thread in here started as well.

So anyway this is book forum and the last posts were all over the movies. Talk topic (books) or I'm closing it.
