Have any of you seen these and which is your favorite? Why?? I've seen both! They both rock! :yahoo: Why?? Oh man...Cats is just cool because of the way it was written. Who would have thought to write such a story. Not to mention the choreography is so pretty too.
Phantom is just so beautiful and romanic. *gushes* lol I know I'm silly, but seriously, I really do love this one too! I dragged my elf (husband) kicking and screaming to see it with me and it turns out he liked it too. :p He wasn't sure what to make of Cats though. lol

I haven't seen Cats live, but I did see a recording of the Original Broadway cast. It was magical to say the least. I haven't seen it in awhile, but have been meaning to buy it on DVD.
I've yet to see Phantom, except for the movie version.

I've seen Phantom...oh...many many years ago, I forget who was in it, but it was really fantasic! Great sets and singing. I liked the short ballet peices just as much as the rest.

Adun - I'd forgotten about the movie version of Phantom. lol Yeah I liked it. Gerard Butler did a find job, imho. :) If you ever get the chance you should see it live! Its really awesome. And Cats..well that's a classic.
Nessa - Same here. I'd love to go see it again though. lol

I must admit that at the begining when the chanalier is lifted up in the air and stays there for the reminder of the show, at first I thought "what if it falls?" but then I forgot all about it untill they brought it back down at the end.

lol You know...I had that random thought too at the time. :p

Yes, Cats is a classic and sadly you can't see it anymore right? Well that's why having it immortalized on DVD is a wonderful thing.
Love Gerard as the Phantom. Although one can't say the rest of the cast doesn't deserve a round of applause either. My cousin has seen it live, and she said it's amazing. She also told me of the chandelier falling, sounds exciting.

As far as I know they are not still performing live like they used to. Pity too. The first time I saw Cats was when I was in high school and we went to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade in NYC. I got to see the original cast! Wow...don't do the math there and figure out how old I am. Ahem...anyway, it was truly awesome!
Oh I agree, Adun. The whole cast was amazing, imho! :)

I saw Cats on a PBS showing, and I loved it from the first moment. Makes sense, since I'm a cat person. ;)
I got to see Phantom on Broadway. There wasn't anyone really famous that I knew about in it, but we liked it. I got to see it as a graduation gift, and since we lived close to NYC, me and my bro got to go with our Dad. It was fun!
So yeah, I love both, but I know the music in Phantom so much better since I listen to the cd of the original play. Michael Crawford was an amazing Phantom. His voice is just so freakin awesome!!

I have to agree with you! Crawford has a gorgeous voice! notworthy

yes Michael's voice has a lovely tone to it. To us who'd only previously seen him in a TV series "Some Mother's Do 'ave 'em" on the Beeb in the 70s it was a complete revelation.

The movie Phantom's voice pales in comparison to Michael's, but he was a great actor for the part.

Well, it would seem that it's common for those who take over the part to be not as good. I think Gerard did an amazing job though.

I agree with both of you. Yet, for an actor (and non singer type) he didn't do a bad job. Much better than I would have faired. lol That took some courage on his part too I think. ;)

Oh yes. He did do an excellent job. The guy who played Raoul was wonderful too.

I agree...but I can't remember his name. Anyone remember it?

I could check, but I'm too lazy. ;)

Yes, but he's done musical theater before. Atleast I believe that's what I was told. Phantom was Gerards first musical escapade. Although I'd heard he'd been wanting to do something like that for awhile.

Same here...I'd heard that too. *nods*

The guy who played Roul in the movie is Patric Wilson.

Oh yes, I saw Phamtom (live) and CATS too...
I couldnt say how many times I did see CATS in London between 1988-2000, but once in NYC and a few times in Sweden, and tour in America.
But CATS was so beautiful, always like to sit, look and listen for like 2 hours... WOW!!!! Love it!!!
Never tired of CATS, there's always difference little by little with acting, movenments, etc...
Movie of CATS is excellent!!! Know almost all of them casts, so great!!!!!!!!
Phantom is so wow..... Honest, I was little disappointed in the movie, and I still keep memory of Phantom as live at the stage than movie, sorry.
Laurelin, do u love to see musicals?
I love it so much :)

I always wanted to see Cats on the stage, but the movie was good enough. I used to watch it tons when I was younger. lol
I felt the same way about the movie, it is so much more spectacular when you see it on the stage, but the movie was able to make some things possible in the story where the play couldn't. :)

BC, sure. I agree with u. And it was good effort of the movie that they couldnt play at the stage like magic and some colourful, but it looked so beautiful at the movie and made me smiling.
:rose:
Did some of u see 'Jesus Superstar' movie? (Musical at the stage, not regular movie.)

I've seen Cats when I was a little girl and I loved it though I didn't like real cats;)
I've got the musical as film in English and I can't say how often I saw it.
In my opinion, the music is so great, I've got the notes of some themes to play them on my saxophone and it's just cool:cool:

I used to play flute and contra bass clarinet. We played Phantom when I was in high school and it was very nice. I truly love the music from Phantom of the Opera!

Phantom of the Opera was the first musical I saw. I really adored the music and performances.

I do too! You really should rent CATS. Its not as good as seeing in live, but it is worth seeing I think. ;) :smooch: <---just because you're a great friend. Yeah I know its off topic. Just wanted you to know I was thinking of ya.
Ok, back to the topic... lol

:smooch: I keep on saying that I'll rent it but honestly, I haven't been to Blockbuster in like, 6 months or longer.
I wonder if they would ever bring back CATS to Broadway.
Domlegolas
January 7th,2008, 11:30 AM
lol but when u walk pass Blockbuster, try to think of CATS that cats is nightlife around the city when people is sleeping. And I agree with Laurelin, it is worth to rent it!
Wish CATS will coemback the stage, but Broadway, no idea... Hummm.... They played for 20 or 22 years in Broadway, no sure how many years they played at the stage...
But there's CATS tour in Usa.... Dunno if it will be this year.
