Smile Hello

Hi I'm The Conjuror.
Loved the movie but in some respects i don't think it did the book justice.
Just wondered if anyone could answer a couple of questions for me.
Why doesn't Tom Bombadil appear in the film? His character in the book is so cool and i think very important being immune to the effects of the ring and all.
Why was the palantir introduced so early? From the way i interpretted the book it isn't till far later that you find out what a palantir is
Who was first Tom or Treebeard?
However can't slate the film too much special effects were good and the whole moria scene was the best part i thought.

Cheers

The Conjuror

I get to be the first to say wlecome!!!!! Anyway, I think Tom Bombadil was not put in the movie because they thought he played such a small part. But they were wrong!!!! To the people who are not aware of the world of Tolkien, they have to explain the role of the palantir. I thought it was a little lame, the way Gandalf straight out explained it, but what can you do. The population is not as intelligent, or fast, as the Tolkienites. Anyway, I don't know about Treebeard vs. Tom Bombadil. I wish I knew. . . . Anyway, the SFX are the best. Have fun!

Its nice to see someone around with a critical view of the movies. But not too critical.....

Have fun here!

Hello Conjurer..

Welcome here.. glad that you have found us and glad to have another inquisitive member.
By all means start a thread to get your questions answered.. take a look and pick the most suitable board.. and I am sure that you will get planty of opinions!!
The changes in the film are I think due to the necessity to have to prune"something" out as unfortunately the whole book could not be economically filmed in one go! I too wish that something of Tom Bombadil had been retained.
One possible explination for the plantir. is to get the audience aware of its impotrance before TTT!!??
Have fun and post often!
