Actors for the Hobbit????

Hey I was just watching a trailer to an upcoming movie (300) It looks like an awesome movie. Anyway, I had a thought... The main actor in the 300 (Gerard Butler) who plays (King Leonidas) would make an excellent "Bard" from Laketown... Thoughts??? Take a look at the trailer and tell me what you think!

For the voice of Smaug...

1. Jason Carter (Marcus from B5)
2. Clive Owen
3. Sam Neill

Sean Connery and James Earl Jones are too EXPECTED. After all, Sean did several dragons already and JEJ's Darth Vader is just not right.

The perfect voice would have been James Mason - just the right combination of suave and evil...

Your thoughts??

I totally agree that Gerard would be great Bard (and one more reason to go and see The Hobbit for at least five times).
For the voice of Smaug, hmmm, it's kind of hard, but Sam Neill would be good. I just wouldn't like to hear some familiar voice from LOTR movie, it would be too creapy.

Voice of Smaug? Of course, he would have to learn an accent, but how bout someone like Dennis Hastert? ("24") Or Robbie Benson (he did the beast in Beauty and the Beast

I always thought Alan Rickman would be a good voice for Smaug.

How bout Hugh Laurie? Sort of dusky, rough, yet appealing

Oh, yes, the guy from Beauty and the Beast would be nice. I love that voice.

But I would like to see who will be Tharanduil. It is a bit intriguing, will he have any features that would tell he is Legolas' father. I think they did nice casting in LOTR with Elrond and Arwen (because they did look like father and doughter).

What dou you think? Do you have anyone in mind?

oooh How about Brian Blessed as the voice of Smaug. He has a very powerful and conmmanding voice. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000306/

Although he always reminds me of John Ryhs-Davies so he might make a better Dwarf... although he's a tall bloke again so body size double would definately be required.

For the voice of smaug how bout... Sir Anthony Hopkins... suave, intelligent, and a little evil as well... A little Hanible wouldn't hurt in the role of a dragon???

As for Tharanduil, that would be tough... I always thought that Haldir (Craig Parker) would have made a good Tharanduil but can't do that now... I just don't know... Somone tall, and has a kingly sense about him.... thoughts???

What do you think if Jeremy Irons did the voice of Smaug?

Jeremy Irons? I'd keep thinking of Scar in The Lion King. Sir Anthony may make a great dragon "I'll eat you dwarves with some fava beans and a nice chianti"

My first thought was Jeremy Irons, too. But then I thought of Sean Bean It would do for him to elevate himself after crashing and burning on that muck "The Hitchhiker" *bleecch!*

A Yorkshire accent might do perfectly for Smaig

mmmmm yes but then you'd be swooning over the dragon!

Jeremy Irons might work. If we're going to go down the route of British actors that play bad guys there's always Alan Rickman.
