The Quintessential 'Lord of the Rings' Movie Links

Click on the logo or name of the following sites to visit them (then use your back arrow - or bookmark this page - to return here).

NOTE:  All of the following links were valid and working the last time I checked (except where otherwise noted), but no guarantee (or endorsement) should be inferred by their presence here.  However, if you do encounter any problems, I'd appreciate it if you would let me know via email
Associated sites (with some 'Lord of the Rings' coverage):

Ain't It Cool News

Ain't It Cool News (an example)

Harry Knowles knows Peter Jackson from way back, so he was given extraordinary access to the set in the last days of filming.  In addition, he's filed numerous other reports about 'Lord of the Rings'.

Bag End 2

Bag End 2 - 21st Century Hobbit Hole

Stormy has this great idea that he'd like to live in a hobbit hole - sounds good to me!  Check out what he has to say, visit the links he gives and join the Yahoo mailing list for 'Bag End 2'.  See you on Bagshot Row!

The Compleat Sean Bean - 'Lord of the Rings' Section

(The) Compleat Sean Bean - 'Lord of the Rings' Section

Although this site is primarily dedicated to Sean Bean, it has a very good section on 'Lord of the Rings'.  As well as lots of images of 'Boromir', it also has an excellent summary of the story (for anybody who's looking for a good place to send someone who's wondering what the whole thing is about).  The webmaster, Nona, also has lots of contacts in England who send her scans that we can't get over here, which she's very nice about sharing.

Dark Horizons

Note:
Currently, Garth is having some server problems. If you don't get through to the main site using the link above, try here.

This is a general movie news site, similar to 'Ain't It Cool News', but they've had some good LOTR scoops.  For one thing, they were the first to show the second movie teaser poster - click here for that link.  Besides, the 'main man' - Garth Franklin - is an Aussie, so he has a 'down under' perspective, though their coverage is definitely worldwide.

Decipher ('Lord of the Rings' section)

Decipher ('Lord of the Rings' section)

This is primarily a TCG (Trading Card Game) site, which is why I've put it down in this section, rather than up above.  However, they have a large section on 'Lord of the Rings', and their cards for the game do feature pictures from the movie - some of which I haven't seen anywhere else.  To go direct to the list of cards, click here.

E Online - Force of Hobbit

E Online - Force of Hobbit

E Online has an 'exclusive' deal for 'Lord of the Rings' stuff (just for TV in the States and Canada, or what all it covers, I don't know), which is why you don't hear about it on ET (guess they're sticking with 'Star Wars', which they gave such huge play last year just before 'The Phantom Menace' premiere).  This is the link to the 'Lord of the Rings' part of the 'E Online' website, which they were updating monthly during production.  Don't know what will happen now that the movie is in post-production, but even reading all the archived pages would be interesting.

The Electric Penguin: 'Waiting for Frodo' comic strip

(The) Electric Penguin:  'Waiting for Frodo' comic strip

Debbie Ridpath Ohi has a comic strip about a LOTR fan-atic who was the first one to line up for the forthcoming movie.  This link is to the first one of the series;  if you enjoy them, you can email her and she will put you on a mailing list to be notified whenever a new strip is released.

The rest of her site ('The Electric Penguin') is pretty neat too - check out the 'Blatherings' and other pages when you visit.  She also has a lot of places where you can send feedback and make suggestions and comments, which is nice.

EA (Electronic Arts) Games ('Lord of the Rings' section)

EA (Electronic Arts) Games ('Lord of the Rings' section)

Electronic Arts (EA) have some great LOTR games (as well as many others).  Currently, only the 'Two Towers' one has been released, but they have already started previewing some of the images from the 'Return of the King' game, due November 2003, including some footage from the movie.  Besides, I have a friend who works there, which I think is kinda cool - Hi, Russ!

Frostyland - The Corner of Viggo

Frostyland - The Corner of Viggo

This site is the world of Tony, aka 'Frosty'.  It isn't primarily concerned with 'Lord of the Rings', but it does have a really good section on Viggo Mortensen, aka 'Aragorn'.

Glenorchy Air - The Trilogy Trail

Glenorchy Air - The Trilogy Trail

Glenorchy Air was responsible for flying many of the cast and crew around parts of the South Island of New Zealand during the filming of Lord of the Rings.  They are now offering a tour called 'The Trilogy Trail' which gives people the opportunity to visit many of these places - check it out!  They've also been nice enough to send me a number of great background photos which I've used to enhance my website - thanks, Robert!

John Howe - LOTR Concept Art

John Howe - LOTR Concept Art

John Howe's official site has a portfolio page (which doesn't happen to work for my old browser, but I'm sure it's fine for everyone else) as well as lots of other stuff on his events and activities - LOTR and otherwise.

Houghton Mifflin

Houghton Mifflin

Houghton Mifflin is the current publisher of 'Lord of the Rings' (and all the rest of Tolkien's work). This is the link to their main page - from there you can go to the Tolkien section or just use the link below to go there directly.

Houghton Mifflin - LOTR Trilogy Movie

NEW:   A section on LOTR has just been added to the HM website.  It is now under 'features'.  There are a number of pages referenced, including ones with wallpapers, links to the new editions of the books, Production Notes (a behind-the-scenes look at the films, one of which is ready now, with three more to come!) and a countdown to when other upcoming events and releases will be happening.  Here is the link to the top-level page: LOTR Features

Moviefone - 'Lord of the Rings' Section

Moviefone - LOTR Section

This site is mainly good to make a note of because they have links to many of the various videos on the 'making of' various parts of the movie, and they have them for Quicktime as well as for either slow or fast connections of Real Player.  I think they have the links to the trailers too, but those are more widely available.

Scoop

Scoop (sample article)

Scoop is one of several New Zealand sites that covered a lot of 'Lord of the Rings' stories.  They are also affiliated with 'TheOneRing.net'.  Lots of great pictures, but they're a bit grinchy about your downloading them (though I've noticed them popping up all over the place, so I guess nobody pays much attention).

Stuff

Stuff (no sample article available)

This is another New Zealand site that has featured a number of 'Lord of the Rings' stories.
