| Frodo: |
Where are you taking us? |
| Strider: |
Into the wild... |
| Merry: |
How do we know this Strider is a friend of Gandalf? |
| Frodo: |
We have no choice but to trust him... |
| Sam: |
But where is he leadin' us? |
| Strider: |
To Rivendell, Master Gamgee, to the House of Elrond. |
| Sam: |
Do you hear that? Rivendell! We're goin' to see the Elves! |
|
(After trudging through the woods for some time, Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin (with Bill the Pony) halt to eat. Strider does not concur...) | |
| Strider: |
Gentlemen, we do not stop till nightfall. |
| Pippin: |
What about breakfast? |
| Strider: |
You've already had it! |
| Pippin: |
We've had one, yes. What about second breakfast? |
| Merry: |
I don't think he knows about second breakfast, Pip. |
| Pippin: |
But what about elevensies? Luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner, supper? He knows about them, doesn't he? |
| Merry: |
I wouldn't count on it... |

(Aragorn throws them some apples) | |
| Merry: |
Pippin! |

| Scene 2: The Destruction of Isengard

(Saruman is using the Palantir, in the 'throne room' of Orthanc) | |
| Saruman: |
The Power of Isengard is at your command, Sauron, Lord of the Earth |
| Sauron: |
...Build me an army worthy of Mordor |
| Orc minion: |
What orders from Mordor, my Lord? What does the Eye command? |
| Saruman: |
We have work to do... |

(Outside in Isengard, trees start to come down. Gandalf awakens on top of Orthanc, it starts to rain) | |
| Orc minion: |
The trees are strong my Lord. Their roots go deep... |
| Saruman: |
Rip them all down! |
|
(Gandalf huddles miserably against one of the Orthanc spires, as the camera looks down on the destruction of Isengard) | |

| Scene 3: Journey to Weathertop

| Strider: |
This was the great watchtower of Amon Sūl; We shall rest here tonight.. |
|
(They reach Weathertop and halt to set up camp) | |
| Strider: |
These are for you; keep them close. I'm going to have a look around. Stay here! |

(Frodo has a bit of a nap, then he awakens) | |
| Merry: |
Want a tomato, Sam? |
| Frodo: |
What are you doing?! |
| Merry: |
Tomatoes, sausages, nice crispy bacon... |
| Sam: |
We saved some for you, Mr. Frodo. |
| Frodo: |
Put it out, you fools! Put it out!! |
| Pippin: |
Well, that's nice - you got ash in my tomatoes! |

(We see what the Nazgûl see - the bright campfire on the side of Weathertop just before Frodo stamps it out - and we hear them screaming their discovery...) | |

| Scene 4: Nazgul Attack Hobbits

(The hobbits go up to the summit of Weathertop. They circle around with their backs to each other, waiting for the Nazgûl, who shortly materialize from the shadows and advance on them...) | |
| Sam: |
Back, you devils! |
| Nazgûl: |
Ah-zhee (and other unintelligible mutterings) |
|
(Frodo puts on the Ring. The Witch-King reaches to take it but Frodo resists and pulls his hand back, so the Ringwraith stabs him. Frodo cries out and, with his last strength, pulls off the Ring) | |

| Scene 5: Strider to the Rescue

(Aragorn leaps in between the Hobbits and the Nazgûl, with torch flaming and sword swinging) | |
| Sam: |
Frodo! |
|
(Much fighting and screaming; the Nazgûl are dispersed) | |
| Sam: |
Strider! Help him, Strider! |
| Strider: |
He's been stabbed by a Morgul blade. This is beyond my skill to heal - he needs Elvish medicine. (Strider picks up Frodo; next we see them all rushing through the woods, as he speaks to the other three Hobbits) Hurry! |
| Sam: |
We're six days from Rivendell - he'll never make it! |
| Strider: |
Hold on Frodo! |
| Frodo (?): |
Gandalf! (sounds loud for Frodo; might be Sam) |
