The Lord of the Rings trilogy was probably the most ambitious filmmaking project in the history of cinema. Years ago, director Peter Jackson envisioned bringing J.R.R. Tolkien's monumental work to the screen...a feat many believed impossible. In an incredibly risky move, New Line Studios gave him the scope to realize a dream. PJ, with his cast and crew, undertook a Herculean task - to create a beautiful, exciting and inspiring film while remaining as true to the canon of the book as possible.

Filmmakers took great care to create films that those of us who love the books would also love, yet they had to be understandable to those who had never read them. Debates will be waged back and forth (perhaps forever) about individual degrees of satisfaction, however, their love, passion and respect for the Professor's work shines through, and the "proof is in the pudding" - so to speak.

Here, we present a list of awards and honours these films, and the men and women who dedicated so much of their lives to them, have garnered. Of course, it is wonderful to win an award, yet a nomination is also a tremendous gesture of recognition, and so, we also include here the scores of nominations that these films have received.

As fans, we honour these men and women for giving us the magnificent film experience that is The Lord of the Rings, and we thank them from the bottom of our Hobbity hearts.
