So what is subscription all about. Well it is a way for you to support War of the Ring and the sites we host. We figure it is a bit like buying a magazine each month. Like buying a magazine, as opposed to reading it off the shelf, you get some additional benefits when you subscribe. So although you are donating to help the site you will also receive as many goodies as we can muster!
Subscription fees will go towards paying for the upkeep of the site. After our last appeal, and your very generous response, we were able to set up with adequate servers to cope with demand. Now we need to gather enough subscribers to make the site viable in the long term. Currently payments can be made via Paypal, 2checkout (just about any CC card) and by mail. All the details are on the purchse page which comes up after you complete the online form.
The cost for Silver Subscription is $5 a month or $55 a year. Postal payments can also be made annually ($55) or quarterly at $15. The cost is the lowest amount we can realistically transact, given the charges for each transaction. It is also inline with most other sites subscription and we are giving more than just forum extras.
The site costs about $1200 a month to run. We do recieve some income from the other sites we host. A few of these sites are hosted free, others heavily subsidised and a few at just below cost. However, these fees do not come anywhere close to paying the monthly bills. Currently we recieve about $230 a month from hosting fees and about $30 from affiliate fees. So we have a deficit of some $900 or so a month. We will be able to maintain the site for this months charges, we hope. However, after this unless subscription is successful in gaining at least 200 subscribers, the site will be in danger of closing.
So not only will you be supporting War of the Ring, you will also be insuring the future for all the sites we host. These include:
As is said above, really it is a way for you to donate, but we felt it would be good to try and give you something for your trouble. We know not everyone will use the forum or photo forum, however, we figure most subscribers will at least benefit from the great competitions which will be held just for them. Though we will also keep running competitions for those who do not want to or cannot subscribe. We will also keep subscribers updated with any new benefits or changes that effect them.
The essence of it is that subscription is voluntary and we do not want to force anyone to sign up, but, if you can and you want to help it will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your continued support.
Everyone at War of the Ring
